The trail is both botanically and ornithologically interesting. Many native species of plants and endemic birds such as black parrots, bulbuls and blue pigeons can easily be seen. Le Ravin de Fond Ferdinand covers an area of 150ha, with altitude range of 10 - 300m, is managed and protected by Seychelles government. It was the first area on Praslin to be bought as a Coco de Mer reserve in 1894, boasting an outstanding scenic beauty that oversees five surrounding islands, including Mahé and La Digue. It also incorporates a safe stone-built trail throughout the Reserve which extends to a distance of more than 2km.
