Colonial Williamsburg

Colonial Williamsburg, Colonial Williamsburg, Washington D.C.

The Basics

Guided and self-guided tours, included in the cost of admission, are offered daily as walking tours through 18th-century homes and gardens. While private excursions and carriage rides are also available, Colonial Williamsburg is best known for its evening ghost tours, with options tailored to both children and adults. Ghost tours, typically led by historical re-enactor tour guides, provide guests with true stories of haunted encounters from the 18th century to the present. Visitors can buy a 1-day or multi-day pass to Colonial Williamsburg, or a 7-day package that also grants access to nearby attractions like Historic Jamestowne, Jamestown Settlement, Yorktown Victory Center, and Yorktown Battlefield.

A full day in Colonial Williamsburg
There was so much to see and experience, and we enjoyed everything (even on a cold and rainy day). The costumes make things come to life, the food at the Taverns is tasty and delicious, the little shops have unique gifts and seeing the horse carriages around is so nice. We enjoyed the kitchen area and inside the Governor's Palace, a definite must see!

Americas Historic Triangle: Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown and Yorktown
Jamestown was such an amazing place! I had no idea it was so large and could be done all indoors for hours on end. We will go back so that we can fully experience Jamestown! Yorktown was good as well. We ended up waking to the town where there was a pirate invasion, which was such fun! Colonial Williamsburg was wet - rained all day Sunday, but we were able to see the highlights and will go back to experience the museum. Highly recommend! We were fully immersed in our American History and it was a great reminder of how lucky we are to be living in this day and age, vs. back in colonial times. Our ancestors were truly bad##s!

Private Colonial Williamsburg Christmas Holiday Decorations Walking Tour
We've been visiting Colonial Williamsburg for the holidays for over 20 years, and this is the best holiday tour. Our guide, Bambi, provided extensive knowledge about the 18th Century celebrations, in-depth details about the fresh fruit, dried herbs, flowers and unusual whimsical items like the clay pipes, playing cards, 18th Century tools, dolls and more to make the wall plaques, Della Robbia wreaths, sprays and roping. We learned about the 4 categories of judging and the blue ribbons, green ribbon and yellow ribbon. She retold stories of the holiday seasons for the wealthy and enslaved (including an inspiration plantation slave story from Wilford Kale's book, the 12 days and many others). We felt the enthusiasm, giving and warmth of the season with a visit to the Williamsburg Inn and a small treasure of a gift - an African American tea cake.

Zumi was our amazing driver and guide. He was a wealth of knowledge and the friendliest most helpful person I ever could have asked for. Our guide made sure Our group never had to wait in line. He got our passes and tickets ahead of time eliminating any wait time. He was right there to pick us up when we were done with each location.. Zumi absolutely made this trip perfect for me. He was highly concerned with everyone’s comfort and that made all the difference in the world. Thank you Zumi, You are the best and I’m very grateful to you for such a wonderful trip.
