The Basics

Travelers in DC can cruise along the Potomac River on a sunset dinner cruise, water taxi, Washington monuments cruise, DC duck tour, or even a cherry blossom springtime sail. Alternatively, keep your feet on solid ground and admire the Potomac from the Mount Vernon Trail or the East and West Potomac Parks. The latter—a stop on many sightseeing tours—is home to several popular monuments, including the Jefferson Memorial and the Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial.

DC in a Day: 10+ Monument Stops & Seasonal Potomac River Cruise
It’s a busy day, but Sally was an excellent historian and guide, and Zuma a safe driver. It’s a great way to see all the major monuments in a few hours. Would have liked a bit more time at some sites, but still a great day!

DC in a Day: 10+ Monument Stops & Seasonal Potomac River Cruise
James and Kris did an excellent job providing interesting details at each stop and while riding, accommodating guests in our group with limited mobility and making sure everyone was included and having a good time. I would highly recommend this experience for families and for people who have limited time to explore DC.

DC in a Day: 10+ Monument Stops & Seasonal Potomac River Cruise
This tour was wonderful, from the driver and guide, who were so professional, knowledgable, and friendly, to the selection of sites, to the cruise on the Potomac. The most memorable parts were the Lincoln Memorial and the FDR Memorial.....but every stop was very important and meaningful. Easy to book, very organized. Highly recommended.

When to Get There

While the Potomac River is free to enjoy throughout the year, the views are arguably at their best during the spring cherry blossom season and in autumn when colorful leaves create a picturesque frame for the monuments on the shore. Expect high temperatures and high humidity from June to August.
