"This was our first trip to Guatemala and one of my biggest desires was to see the lovely quetzales. The tour was well organized. We were picked up at our hotel at 6 am, our tour guide took us to the boat, we travelled to Santiago Atitlan, were picked to go to the reserve area and walked up the trail to see the quetzales. During our walk we were able to observe other local birds, our guide had a very nice lense and binoculars. The hike is not easy trail, and our tour guide was very patient waiting for us during the steep hike. We were very fortunate to see a female quetzal! Simply GORGEOUS! I felf she even posed for us. The guide's lense gave us an excellent view of this lovely bird!!! During our return, we were able to see more birds and the local flora.
