Sunnegga

Gourmetweg 5, Zermatt, 3920

The Basics

Sunnegga means “sunny corner,” and the name is apt for this spot that is often awash in sunlight when the rest of Zermatt is cloaked in clouds. A natural terrace set in the heart of the Matterhorn-Cervino Alpine area, Sunnegga is part of the Sunnegga Paradise ski area, one of the most scenic and most accessible spots from Zermatt.

The Sunnegga Express underground funicular railway runs from Zermatt to Sunnegga, where you can stop to ski, hike, explore by kick scooter or mountain cart, or dine; otherwise, continue with the Combi lift up to Blauherd, where the cable car connects to the Rothorn peak. Sunnegga is one of the most popular destinations from Zermatt, so purchase funicular tickets in advance to avoid having to wait in line.
