1. Feed the animals

Throughout the day, visitors can watch and even participate in feeding sessions at the penguin and sea lion exhibit areas. This is a definite must-see, especially if you’re traveling with kids.

2. Pack a picnic

Skip the overpriced food vendors and bring your own lunch—grab a seat on one of the benches in or outside the park to dine al fresco.

Though zoo hours are slightly shorter in the colder months, animals tend to be more active when it’s chilly out. Other times of year, opt for an evening visit to see more activity among zoo residents.

4. Pet animals at the Tisch Children's Zoo

Just down the path from the main zoo section, the Tisch Children's Zoo lets visitors interact with goats, sheep, a pot-bellied pig, and even a cow. Plus, food dispensers are available so you can feed your new furry friends.

5. Make it a quick trip for the kiddos

Central Park Zoo is much smaller than the Bronx Zoo, and can be explored in roughly two hours. This can be an advantage for travelers with young kids, looking to get in and out before the little ones get antsy.
