1. Go from north to south

Enter the High Line at its northernmost access point (34th Street and 12th Avenue) and head south. That way, you’ll finish up near Chelsea Market, where you can refuel.

2. Time your visit

Parts of the High Line are no wider than a sidewalk, which can cause bottlenecks in busy periods. Get there midweek—and ideally in early morning—for a little more space.

3. Cool your feet

Walking the High Line can be hard on the feet, especially in summer. If yours are aching, kick off your shoes and dip your toes in the cooling water feature between 14th and 15th streets.

4. Admire city views

For memorable views, take a seat at the 17th Street amphitheater, where a glass wall frames 10th Avenue. Or make your way to the Tiffany & Co. Overlook at Gansevoort Street to see over to Chelsea, Greenwich Village, and the Hudson River.

5. Keep an eye out for helicopters

Hang around for a while at the north end of the High Line—if you’re lucky, you may be able to see helicopters taking off or landing at the West 30th Street Heliport.
