What To Expect

After pickup from your hotel, depart from the dock at Port Airlie or Hamilton Island and travel to Whitehaven Beach.

Your guide will inform you of the itinerary for the day. Among the options for your time at Whitehaven Beach: have several hours of free time at the southern end of Whitehaven Beach, where your guide sets up a base with beach tents, games and a picnic lunch to enjoy at your leisure. If you have any questions, your guide is available throughout the day.

A guided tour takes you to Hill Inlet for a leisurely walk led by your guide (suitable for all fitness levels) to Hill Inlet's lookout point. Admire stunning views from this popular vantage point and hear the history of the Whitsundays’ traditional owners, the Ngaro people. Informative displays along the path detail the history, flora and fauna of this pretty area.

At the end of your time on Whitehaven Beach, your group will be picked up by boat. Enjoy afternoon tea on the boat as you relax after your day of beach fun. Your tour ends with hotel drop-off in the early evening.

Great BBQ lunch, but would have been nice to include at least one drink on the boat.

Mis-Sold Tour

Starting with the positives - check in was great, the journey was great (even with windy conditions), the lunch was great, the beach is definitely worth a visit. However, do not be misled by the incorrect advertising of this tour. There is NOT a maximum of 32 passengers. In fact there is over 100+ passengers. You are separated from them on the way, but staff gave up on the way back and just herded everyone back. I’ve done multiple Cruise Whitsundays tours and this was by far the worse one. Feel very disappointed that it was mis-sold. Would highly recommend visiting Whitehaven Beach, but would do your research on which your guide prior to booking.

Amazing day trip to Whitehaven Beach and Hill Inlet lookout with plenty of activities, hikes or just chilling by the beach. Explore Australia‘s most beautiful beach, including lunch and afternoon tea / snacks on the boat. Only downside of the day was splitting the group into 2 for the Hill Inlet walk and when coming back, the 1st group already has had lunch and the luxury to sit in tents and on benched whereas the 2nd group has to see where to sit with their food (nobody seemed to have told the 1st group to leave some space for the 2nd group, maybe it was me being hangry but it enraged me to see people chilling on the benches where we could have sat for lunch), I think I ingested at least a hand full of sand with my food that day. Otherwise, everything was perfectly organised.

What a fabulous day trip! We have some amazing memories from this visit. The sights are incredible and all the better with commentary from excellent knowledgeable staff (especially Gary) love Gary! Definitely one for the bucket list. Great food and drinks, games and stinger suits all contributed to make this a memorable experience. We will be returning later this year for another visit, new favourite holiday destination! Thanks to everyone who helped make this a very special day out.

It was an amazing day at the spectacular Whitehaven beach. Gary, our guide, was very knowledgeable and a fun, easy-going person at the same time. He really took care of everything we needed and organized the day wonderfully. We could see every part of the island and had a great beach BBQ with plenty of food. We would recommend this whole-day tour for those who would love to explore the entire island.

I chose to go on both walks. Our guide Cameron was not only personable and caring. The information he shared about local history, flora and fauna and past indigenous practises was really fascinating. Two he demonstrated - creating soap with the leaves of a particular eucalypt, and finding a particular ant that tastes like lime cordial (as confirmed by another participant). He also went out of his way to relate to some of the kids in the group.

We loved going to Whitehaven Beach and spending some time there. Then we took a smaller boat (note that the speed can be high) to go to the other side of the beach for the Hill Inlet walk. We had taken this tour for this specific option and were not disappointed - really worth it to see the inlet and the beach from above ! Then we went back to the beach, the skipper was passionated about the area and gave us information about surrounding islands. Only advice would be to give people more time to eat (morning cakes / lunch were served at the last minute before disembarking / doing the Hill Inlet walk). Type of visit : family (adults)

It was wonderful trip. The ferry is very comfortable,stuff more than friendly and whitehaven beach is amazing. Just be sure that your trip includes the visit of Hill inlet, which was the most exciting part of the trip.

Wouldn't fault the trip, excluding that we were in a heat wave. The air conditioned catamaran was comfortable, cool and clean. The staff were friendly and helpful and clear with rules etc. Whitehaven beach was truly spectacular. I hope the dry finishes soon and the rains come!

We had a super trip over to Whitehaven Beach - everything was organised so well. The Hill Inlet Walk was also very interesting with superb views - the unfortunate thing was the weather whilst we were at the Hill Inlet Walk - it poured with rain but once we returned to Whitehaven Beach the weather was beautiful. The packed lunch was also extremely good. Our tour guides were also exceptionally good

We took the departure from Hamilton Island, only two minutes from our apartment. The Cruise Whitsundays boat is quite large - this is definitely not a small group experience, and you also share the main vessel with the half-day cruise passengers. But, that means it's an enclosed air conditioned vessel with a bar onboard. Whitehaven Beach itself is incredible, despite the damage from the cyclone. The day we went was overcast and had a few showers, but the location on the beach where we landed is well sheltered and the Cruise Whitsundays crew have gazebos to hide under if needed. They also provide beach toys, like buckets and spades, frisbees, footballs, etc. The Hill Inlet walk part is limited to groups of around 12. We travelled in a smaller vessel up the coast and got dropped off on a different beach to make our way up to the outlook. This was definitely worth the extra effort! The view is incredible. The provided cold lunch pack is a little small, but was tasty. There was also an extra optional walk to Chance Bay - for this, the same smaller vessel takes you around the island and drops you off for a 3.6 km walk back to Whitehaven. Again, well worth it. All in all, this was a fantastic tour.

Really enjoyed the day trip. Snorkelling was good and views from Hill Inlet spectacular. Whitehaven is a lovely beach but just remember there is nothing else there.

Probably the most beautiful day trip I went on. Nick was an excellent guide. I loved the Hill Inlet Lookout and I am so glad I booked this tour. Half a day would have been way too short. Whitehaven Beach is the most beautiful beach I have ever seen.

NOT worth it at all! Just a commercial ferry ride across over 70 people on the boat picking up from each island on the way to the beach then a jet pickup to do the walk without any information or guidance and not enough time to spend on the beach by the inlet or even enjoy the views on top. Don't do it with Cruise Whitsundays - go with another smaller operator they are much more enthusiastic. I ended up going with a different operator two days later as I was truly very upset not being able to take the photos I wanted and spend time in the water thankfully I had the opportunity given that I likely will not be able to get back to Whitehaven or Airly again all the way from Canada, and I am glad I redid it. It was SO much more different - informative, enjoyable, inspirational. Save time, agitation and money choose one of the smaller operators.
