What To Expect

Meet your guide and small group of no more than 15 people in central Amsterdam in time for departure. Set out to explore the city’s historic Jewish Quarter on foot, stopping to admire landmarks such as the Jewish Historical Museum and the Portuguese Synagogue.

Along the way, learn more about Amsterdam’s troubled past, as you hear about the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands between 1940 and 1945, and the effects of the brutal regime not only on the Jewish community but on the everyday lives of all those living in Amsterdam. See the head office of the Jewish council and hear about key events such as the Winter of Hunger and the February Strike as you pass monuments like the Dokwerker and the Auschwitz Monument.

You’ll also learn more about the Dutch resistance and how they offered secret hiding places to families like the Franks. Your tour ends outside the Anne Frank House, where you’ll learn more about her now-legendary diaries and how they came to be published by her father Otto Frank. Entrance to the museum is not included, but you can opt to visit independently after the tour.

Our guide Clare shared stories and details of the experience of those living in the Jewish quarter of Amsterdam during WWII. Her passion for the subject and the importance of never forgetting was evident. Excellent experience.

Also during the way she explained us with lot many things about Amsterdam, local culture and reasons behind things. Super guide she was.

Not an Anne Frank tour
Nancy_L, Sept 2023
I booked this months ago thinking that I would be able to go into the house itself and that it would be really about the Anne Frank story. Neither was the case. I take responsibility for not reading the full description closer. But, even with that, this isn’t about the Anne Frank story. Our young guide was knowledgeable to a point, but sadly he had many “facts” wrong to what even the Anne Frank official site has documented. While I appreciate his desire to be a patriot to his country, there are numerous accounts of disrespect and disavowal by the people of Amsterdam towards the Jewish sector during the war. History is perspective and I felt as if his was very leaning to one side. Mostly walking and seeing various buildings and parks for two hours, with the hope and promise of the Anne Frank house, was a total let down. I heard a comment from a fellow tourer that this really had very little to do with the Anne Frank story. I concur. This young tour guide kept trying to quiz his patrons rather than be a fountain of information. We tipped him because he was trying, but this was two hours of walking around with very little information about Anne Frank, the title character of this tour.
Great tour

Great informative tour by Angie. Would highly recommend, highly knowledgeable and experienced tour guide.
A must do tour!
Brian_W, Sept 2023
We booked this last minute on our only day in Amsterdam. So glad we did! Alexandra, our guide, had so many historical facts to add to the knowledge we already have on WWII and the holocaust. She offered facts that answered a few questions we have had over the years. Everything about this tour was just what we were looking for. If you get a chance to go, do not hesitate. And if you get Alexandra, you’re in good hands.
Great local guide !

Provides excellent sequence
Larrie_K, Sept 2023
His interaction with the group was excellent. He certainly didn't seem to be delivering a memorized speech.
Informative and enjoyable
Jane_O, Sept 2023
Lena was a great guide with the appropriate amount of detail and stories. We really enjoyed her positive energy. The tour was very interesting. I just wish there was a way for the tour to include a trip inside the Anne Frank house because tickets are hard to come by. Thank you.
A compelling story of bravery and tragedy
Jane_B, Sept 2023

MaryAnn_H, Sept 2023
Enjoyed this walking tour very much as we wove our way from Jewish quarter through Dam Square and eventually to what is called Ann Frank house. Many moving memorials and history was brought to life.

James_B, Sept 2023
The tour was very informative and the guide was very knowledgeable, just want to thank them, also for being very accommodating by changing our tour time at the last minute , when we messed up and arrived at the wrong location, I cannot thank them enough, really turned our stressful moment around for us.
Walking in the rain! With the information shining through.
bash, Sept 2023
Even though it was pouring with rain and as a result only a small group, our guide was enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the subject. He made sure we took shelter where we could and informed us of the surroundings each time we did. Would thoroughly recommend
