What To Expect

The Polynesian production at the Island Breeze luau has been voted 'best in west Hawaii,' and when you spend an evening at the King Kamehameha Kona Beach Hotel, it’s easy to see why this Big Island luau is one of the most popular in town.

Held on the shores of Kamakahonu Bay. The luau is set near Ahu’ena — King Kamehameha’s former estate — and provides visitors with a backdrop of paddlers, boaters, and Hualalai volcano. When it’s time to eat before the show, choose from a 22-dish buffet that will satisfy even the biggest eaters, and enjoy the drinks at the open bar as the sun disappears on the horizon. During the royal procession, sit back and watch as King Kamehameha arrives in an outrigger canoe and performers offer an oli, or chant, while others blow on the conch.

Over the course of the fiery Polynesian revue, you’ll travel across the Pacific Ocean from Fiji to Aotearoa, and hear dances, chants, stories, and tales from Tonga, Hawaii, and Samoa.

Don't waste your money

The food was ok, they had some good dishes but overall I wasn't impressed. The show was nice but not interactive.
Disappointed all the way around
Jules_A, May 2023
disappointed all the way around. The creation story of Hawaii is sacred. I felt like Islandbreeze made a joke and created a circus performance of what should have been a beautiful and sacred telling of the story. Between Disney songs and old 80s, Pop Classics mixed in traditional Hawaiian music. It was confusing and beyond watered down. The food was worse than cafeteria. The only plus was the fire dancer, minus his ego, at the very end. If your truly interested in a luau, keep looking, this one is not it.
Ohana Luau
Silvana_B, Apr 2023
The luau was great. The service was friendly. It wasn’t too crowded. The location was wonderful since it was close to the ocean. The buffet food was good. It was nice to have the food before the show. But it was an hour and a half between the time we checked in and the show started. The show was lovely. But only an hour long. I wish it was longer. Overall a great experience.
Excellent first time experience

I've never been to any luau in all my trips to HI in the past years. Mostly, my travel companions aren't interested claiming it's just a tourist trap. Anyway I was traveling solo this time and decided to experience it at least once. I was duly impressed. I loved the fact they featured dances from the different Polynesian islands and the fire dance was the highlight. Impressive! Food was plentiful and alcohol was hosted and free flowing. Too bad I'm not a drinker. That alone would've been worthwhile for those so inclined. They also featured other activities like giving you temporary tattoos and other cultural things. Overall, great value for the package price. I remember many years ago when the prices were for in the $80 range, wondering if you get just as much value for it. Highly recommended!
Good show

The food was good and the show excellent. Unfortunately the drinks were watered. Get there by 5:00 to get a good seat.
Rain Rain go away!!!
Lana_G, Apr 2023
Rain out! Very sad cause we had to leave the next day and couldn't reschedule! We enjoyed the rest of our time on our 14th anniversary trip!
Great luau
GloriaEsther_C, Mar 2023
It was an excellent performance! The food is good but the ambience is pretty. We enjoyed the performance ! Love it!
OK but not great
Rhonda_K, Mar 2023
The experience was somewhat disappointing as we did not get to see prep of taking the pig out of the ground. Nor were there any pre-show activities (unless you count the rubber stamp temporary tatoos) food was typical buffet style fare. The show was pretty good but I have seen better
Amazing Perfomance Kale Salad was the best menu item
Briana_B, Mar 2023
Performance was incredible. Food was barely edible. Eat before you go. Get only drinks and enjoy the show.
Bad check in system, rushed rushed rushed
Vicki_H, Mar 2023
Doors open at 5:30pm. Dinner and show actually started right away. Horrible and rushed checked in! We had a party of 18. We called to confirm our seatings before hand but still didn’t even have a table set for us. We didn’t even get to enjoy the beginning of the show, or any activities the luau offered. Finally when we did have a table, got our food we did enjoy the show very much.
Not worth it
Maggie_A, Mar 2023
Not worth it. Food was cold and we were out in the rain while eating. They ended the performance and open bar over an hour early, even though it had stopped raining after about the first 30 minutes.
Cheee-Hooo!!!
Nicole_A, Mar 2023
Great food, great vibes, great customer service. Just an overall great time. Lines moved quickly. Drinks were strong! My family really enjoyed it.
Mediocre experience for Inflated price
Chikere_N, Feb 2023
Line for food was very long. Line for drinks wayyyyyy longer. The food and drinks were not that good either. Missed a lot of the luau trying to get food and get situated. Paid a lot for a mediocre experience.
Fun filled evening
Deborah_K, Feb 2023
Quite an experience. Many different activities to involve the participants. From games to temp tattoos to hula lessons. Wonderful dance performances. Food was okay but did get to taste a lot of different dishes. Drinks were so so. Did not know about upgrade package to get in early and private tables.
Beautiful evening
Vicki_U, Feb 2023
This was an awesome luau. I loved that the history was explained. And they tried to teach us hawaiian words. Also the royalty procession was amazing
Incredible way to experience a bit of Polynesian culture
Tori_Q, Feb 2023
This was one of my favorite things I did on the big island. I loved the storytelling, mini hula lesson, music, and dancing.
Something to do.
Stacy_W, Jan 2023

Memorable evening
Kirti_R, Dec 2022
We loved all the performances and beautiful ambiance. The sitting arrangements and food was good. The anchor did great job in making the show interactive.
Amazing performances and great time ( limited vegetarian food )
KishenDas_K, Dec 2022
Amazing experience to learn about local culture and traditions. Lot of wonderful, graceful and some dangerous performances as well. We loved all the performances. Being vegetarian we had almost no option except Mac n cheese and Tofu. And Tofu was not available after some time. Would appreciate if they add just one more vegetarian item. I believe it’s an absolute feast for the rest with various types of local delicacies ( pork, chicken, fish, mussels, etc ) available.
Anniversary
