Overview

The Big Island's Kealakekua Bay State Historical Park, site of the Captain Cook Monument, is home to arguably the best snorkeling in Hawaii. That means that it often gets busy. This small-group tour is timed to avoid the crowds and is limited to 12 passengers, making it quicker to get on and off the boat and allowing for more time snorkeling on the coral reef.

The small group snorkel trip was perfect. There were 12 people total plus crew. The crew were friendly, knowledgeable and really enjoyable to be with. The weather was great. We saw beautiful fish. My husband and I had a great experience.

Loved the small group experience!

The best part of our experience was that if felt like a private snorkeling trip. We left early with a 6 person small group to where the memorial for Captain Cook was. We were the only ones there so we could snorkel all over the place without bumping into anyone else. Our guides were very helpful. They were watching all of us in the event we had any trouble, which I appreciated. The water was clear and we saw beautiful fish like parrot fish, yellow fish and black striped fish and some other fish that were black with a neon blue stripe along the fin to name a few. I saw an eel and red and black sea urchins too. The only thing that would have been better was to see more fish!

Our group had an awesome time. We lucked out and spent the first hour of the tour following a whale shark a few miles off the coast. Even the guides were pumped about seeing this as it is exceptionally rare. Spent the second half of the tour in a nice calm bay watching a lot of fish off a reef. This was my first time doing a smaller snorkel boat vs a larger catamaran and I found it quite enjoyable to be able to quickly get to the action and customize your trip to your groups liking.

We had an overcast day but the snorkelling was still amazing. The amount of fish and the variety too was incredible. The water was warm and clear. Hawaii Oceanic would be my go to choice if I were to do this experience again. A small boat with 8 of us, 2 families of 4, which made for a very pleasant experience. Easy parking, lots and lots of free spaces in a picturesque small harbour. There is a lovely place to eat nearby at the golf club too afterwards, with good food and views (food reasonably priced for Hawaii's normally expensive norms).

Great snorkeling experience! We had a very entertaining team of 2 driving us and getting everything ready for us before and after our snorkeling. Those two really made this outing memorable. Kealakekua Bay was exceptional, and our driver got us there before the crowds. We also enjoyed a couple of brief history lessons on the way back.

Our family had a great start to our vacation. Jordan and Peña were excellent tour guides. Jordan was extremely helpful with our seven year old. The meeting point was easy to find. They pointed out things of interest that we might be interested in doing during our stay. Snorkeling was good even on an overcast day. I would highly recommend this tour.

The tour operators did a 5 star experience. The Captain Cook reef was excellent up to 15 feet deep after that depth the coral was completely dead.

We enjoyed the small group setting and snorkeling in a coral reef for the first time! Our tour guides were very knowledgeable about the land and also included tours of the Pele rock formation and the bird cove. Would recommend to anyone wanting to experience both snorkeling and seeing the beauty of the coastline!

It was an extraordinary experience. The crew on the boat, the captain and all the lifeguards Patrick, Laura, josh, Lucas everyone was wonderful - they knew how to have fun, they were supremely patient, kind and caring. They showcased their wisdom and experience with such humility and with the intention to ensure everyone on board has the best experience. Highly recommend this activity, especially for folks unsure of their swimming abilities because the crew really takes care of you - immaterial of your level of comfort in water. Heartfelt thank you to all of them.

We were a little late to the dock and it was really difficult to find parking.. So go early! However, Eric and Bob were very patient and waited. They taught us to snorkel well. It was beautiful! The boat ride was choppy so watch out if you get seasick.

My son and I took the snorkeling trip and it was amazing! The weather was perfect, the water was clear and qe even saw a babh whale! The crew were very knowledgeable,kind and helpful. They took their their time to tell us about the historical sites. Being in a small group is so much better than a large group. I definitely recommend them!

My friend and I were able to book this snorkeling experience one day in advance. It was very nice to be in a small group of 10 people. The entire experience was breathtaking. The boat ride to the captain cook monument, the snorkeling, and the ride back. We saw some beautiful scenery, fish, and coral. We learned a little history. Felt very safe the entire time. We would definitely do it again!

Awesome experience. We were the first ones in the bay and had it to ourselves for ~1 hour before the larger tours clogged up the water and scared the fish away. Fun boat ride and great snorkelling guidance.
