What To Expect
Your day trip begins with pickup at Gold Coast or Brisbane hotels by minivan for the drive to Lamington National Park. Upon arrival at the park, get ready for your hike by fueling up with snacks (bring your own) and listening to your guide’s introduction to your hiking route, including a few safety tips. (See the Itinerary section for details about the hike to Picnic Rock and Elabana Falls).
Then set off on your hike, wandering through Lamington’s lush, UNESCO–listed rain forest landscape made up of pine trees, ferns, and flowering plants, all remains of the ancient Gondwanan forests that once blanketed Australia. In the afternoon, arrive at O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat, where you can visit the cafe to purchase lunch (own expense).
After lunch, enjoy a little free time to check out the gift shop, feed the local birds or just admire the scenery from your location in the middle of the park. From O’Reilly’s, drive back down the mountain and then onto your hotel for drop-off.
Lamington National Park
The adventure begins with a scenic drive from the coast up to the Lamington Plateau, with ample opportunity for keen eyed explorers to absorb the spectacular valley views and spot native wildlife during the climb. Following a quick safety briefing at the trailhead the adventure continues on foot, experiencing a section of Antarctic Beech forest and witnessing some of the oldest Brush Box trees in the National Park. After stopping for morning tea at the appropriately named Picnic Rock, the hike continues on to one of the world’s most breathtaking waterfalls. A final scramble over some challenging boulders reveals the kind of view people travel across the globe to experience - Elabana Falls. Take as long as you need to indulge your senses in this beautiful spot before returning via the world renowned Tree Top Walk and experiencing life in the canopy of one of the world's oldest rainforests.

Hike through the rain forest.
David_S, Mar 2020
This was a brilliant day out in the Gold Coast. Our driver and guide was Julian and although there were only three of us, he was excellent and provided us with lots of interesting facts and information about the area. The hike through the rain forest was excellent. Also, all drinks, snacks and lunch was provided. The experience of feeding the birds was great fun. All in all, an excellent day and extremely good value.

This was a great experience. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the local plants and animals, and she had great enthusiasm for sharing her knowledge with us. Lamington Park is beautiful and not too far from Broadbeach where we were staying. Hike was long enough for a good workout but not so long as to be exhausting. Highly recommend this to anyone who wants to see the rainforest.

My favorite part of this tour was Kaylene, she has had such anot amazing life and I loved hearing her stories! The hike isn't hard, just a slight uphill on the way back. It's very pretty, especially the waterfall, and I absolutely loved seeing the wildlife! So glad I went on this tour!

My family and I had a very enjoyable tour organised by Rainforest Tours Australia. The hike through the rainforest was awesome culminating in a most beautiful Elabana falls. The 6KM walk is suitable for all ages, even my 5 year old son did it.
