What To Expect

After morning pickup in Brisbane, transfer to the ferry that takes you across Moreton Bay. When you arrive at Moreton Island, travel by 4-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle to the beach and along Middle Road.

Moreton Island is the world's third largest sand island. Most of the island is a protected national park without paved roads, making 4WD an essential mode of transportation.

Admire the scenery as you pass eucalyptus forests with some trees that are 250 years old. Head to 'the Desert’ for a classic sandboarding experience on Moreton Island.

When sandboarding, you can reach speeds of up to        (50 km) per hour. Despite the potential for speed, everyone from beginners to speed demons can enjoy the activity and modify it to their comfort level.

After the sandboarding excitement, head to a lake where you can take a dip in the blue waters or relax on a white-sand beach while your guide serves up a tasty picnic lunch. Then head to the Tangalooma Shipwrecks for a guided snorkel tour around the 15 submerged shipwrecks. The wrecks are located only        (50 meters) from the beach, making them easy to reach. Enjoy  watching a range of aquatic life swim around the vicinity, including parrotfish, trevally, blue-tang surgeonfish (dory) and clown fish.

Alternatively, take a kayak tour in the area of the Tangalooma Shipwrecks, observing the shipwrecks from above.

Please note: Snorkeling is subject to tide and weather conditions and may change without notice. Kayaking may be offered as an alternative to snorkeling if conditions are unfavorable.

At the end of a full day, enjoy the sunset over Moreton Bay as you return by ferry to the mainland and transfer back to Brisbane where your tour ends.

Please note: The itinerary may change depending on weather and tidal conditions.

The tour company needs improvement with vehicles, sand boards and buy a jet ski so customers can get their money's worth
Ninia_C, Dec 2021
Sand boarding was not fun because they only have cardboard to slide on the sand hills but it did not work so I got stuck in the middle and the guide was yelling for me not to walk up on the track (which is understandable) but maybe it would be better to invest on some good plastic boards so the travelers can enjoy the experience. The van was decrepit and old and was not safe and we're all chucked in the back and I did not have a seat belt. The weather did not cooperate either so we were not able to go snorkeling which was the main reason for me to buy this deal. We paid $179.00 (including the $50 in cash they've collected but I don't think it's worth it. I just went swimming in the waters to make the most out of my time instead of getting upset about the situation. Thumbs up for the the tour guide and driver Wayne though for being friendly and accommodating.
Wonderful day trip

This was such a great day! The snorkeling is amazing and the 4WD to the sand dunes it great fun. The sandboarding was fun - but the snorkeling was the best!

Glad you enjoyed your day with us! Moreton Island is an amazing place. I'm glad you love it as much as we do!!
Fun day out.

Great tour guide, very helpful and kept us all laughing. The fact that there was a $200 fee on top of the paid amount at the time of departure was a but upsetting but worth every cent in the end.
Response from Host, July 2020
Hey Em! The fees of $50.00 per person is used to offset the price of the ferry and the National Park fees incurred by operating within a National Park. We do attempt to keep our prices as cheap as possible while offering a fantastic product. I'm very happy you enjoyed your day!
Wonderful day at Moreton Island

My friend and I spent one day at Moreton Island: we landed with the ferry directly on the beach, the sand desert is cool, sandboarding is super fun! The beach is really beautiful and the snorkeling an unbelieved experience!
Response from Host, July 2020
Thanks for posting Maria. I'm glad you enjoyed your tour!
Amazing Tour!

My sister and I had a blast on this tour! The sand boarding was so much fun and we truly enjoyed snorkeling over the shipwrecks. Our guide was really nice and told us a lot about the island. He even dropped us off at our hotel afterward, instead of the drop off point. If you're looking for a tour to Moreton Island, this is the one you should choose! :D

Everything worked out pretty well. An interesting day. Very small group, nice guide. Came back after 9pm
Missed it but at least they called
Noah S, Aug 2019
Unfortunately I can't leave a full review since I missed the tour due to a flight delay. I apologize because I thought I had left a message at the office that I wouldn't be able to make it but I accidentally called the wrong tour company. Sorry about that. Shame I missed it, but they did call to make sure I wasn't coming, so I will give them 5 stars for showing responsibility.
Sandborading Great - Snorkeling Not So Great
Roger_W, May 2019
The sandboarding was awesome. Tour guide seemed to always be in a hurry though. Snorkeling experience not so great. This part of the trip was not a good idea. There are a lot of motor boats floating through the area where you have to swim to get to the "shipwreck". The "shipwreck" is not really a shipwreck, but instead, a mass of steel and iron that was deposited to create a bay for boating. the variety of fish was not that great. The biggest issue however was negotiating the movement of the boats as we were trying to get to the "shipwreck". Second issue is that the tangle of iron and steel is dangerous. No matter how careful we were, 4 out of 10 of us ended up with cuts from the barnacles of rust on the iron.
Fantastic

Moreton island snorkel and sand boarding
Bernadette_F, Jan 2019
We had a lovely day on Moreton island. The guides were helpful and knowledgeable. The drive to the sand dunes was lots of fun and the old 4WD we traveled in added to the experience of it all. The snorkeling was good, but a little rushed to get started. There wasn’t a choice to snorkel or kayak, we were only allowed to snorkel. This was misleading from the description of the tour when we booked, it read as though we would have a choice of either. Lunch was a simple salad roll at a campsite. There was plenty of food. Overall a good day.
Awesaome!!!

The Snorkeling was absolutely awesome!!! Unfortunately we couldn't get to the sandboarding due to cars getting bogged.
Poor organization

Not up to the standard I usually find on Viator. Pick up went smoothly at the bus stop although the transport was a bit shabby and crowded. The ferry ride was fine. When we arrived on the Island it turned out a set of keys was lost to one of the 4wd vehicles. A good 30 minutes was wasted looking around for the keys. Some of us were then taken to the”desert” to go sand boarding on our own while the driver went back to get the rest of the group. They had waited so long, they decided to go kayaking and so only three of the other 10 came to the desert. The driver then took us to a tent for lunch which was ham sandwiches and fruit. We walked to the beach and went up and down the shore which was really pretty and peaceful. After, they took us to the beach in two loads to snorkel. We actually kayaked instead because we hadn’t gone before and there was only time for one thing. This company needs a better backup plan when things go wrong. There were other slightly more expensive tour groups. I recommend one of those.

A great adventure! Only reason we did not rate it a five: The company should have better vehicles to pick up passengers with in Brisbane. We were squished in like sardines in a non air conditioned vehicle for the long ride to the ferry. Otherwise our guide, Jay, made sure everyone enjoyed their trip. Definitely a picnic lunch as advertised was a prewrapped sandwich and a granola bar. If you love snorkeling, this is a must do trip.

Terrible agency. 6 of the 10 of us signed up for the snorkeling tour, only to find out that we were no longer going on the snorkeling tour because 4 of the group members didn't want to. Bullsht company. Go with another company

Jiawei W, Mar 2016
The 4WD and the equipment is a bit old and the shower facility is quite poor. The whole trip was not as smooth as we thought because the tour information wasn't that clear at the beginning. However, the highlight is the sand boarding which is worth to try once in a life time.
