We got to see so much we couldn't have on our own!

Our experience with Michael was fantastic! We were back in Brussels for the second time and wanted to explore some new places that were off the beaten path. We decided to book a tour with Michael and it turned out to be a great decision! The best part was that we got to fill out a questionnaire and request that our guide showed us the best non-touristy spots in the city. Michael took us to some cool neighborhoods like Sablon and Les Marolles that had a boho and laid-back vibe. We even got to enjoy some local shopping and mingled with locals on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Michael was an excellent guide, and he surprised us with a visit to his favorite chocolate shop, which had the most amazing chocolate that was
We were really looking forward to...

We were really looking forward to this tour and experiencing this new city with a local. Instead we got Yana, who had been living in the city for a few years, but didn't seem to have fully immersed herself in its culture just yet. I had provided some direction on the top tourist sites I would like to see, but then also said we'd like to see non-tourist areas/sites. Yana was unprepared and didn't have an agenda to follow. She got lost trying to find the Pis statues, and almost seemed to think it was ridiculous these were things we'd want to see. She gave no context or history to anything Grand Place, the guilds, Sablon, etc. as we walked, opting instead for awkward silences or personal anecdotes. The last hour really dragged on, as she toured us around a neighborhood to show us houses... without any explanation. We ended our tour 40 minutes from our hotel which she mentioned was conveniently located to her own flat. The only saving grace is that we ended near Maison Antoine, which she fortunately pointed out as an iconic place for frites but almost as an afterthought.
