What To Expect

Meet your private guide at your Cancun hotel and make the 4-hour trip to Uxmal in a comfortable, air-conditioned minivan. Explore the Classical Period temples that make UNESCO-listed Uxmal one of the most important sites in the Maya world. Climb to the top of the ‘Pyramid of the Soothsayer’ for panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, then take in a series of sculptures dedicated to the rain god Chaac. See the grand stone ball court where ancient Maya athletes competed for great crowds, visit the ‘House of the Tortoises’ and stroll the broad ‘Quadrangle of the Nuns,’ an enclosed court surrounded by elegant arcades.

Continue to the picturesque colonial city of Merida, where you’ll find colorful historic buildings clustered around a central square. Take a walking tour of the vibrant downtown and visit the 16th-century Merida cathedral, one of the oldest cathedrals in the Americas. Follow narrow streets to hidden parks then browse local shops filled with hand-woven hammocks and huipiles.

Learn how the ancient Maya cultivated and used cacao on a nearby plantation, where you can see cacao trees growing and watch the preparation of cacao into natural chocolate, and make a final stop at a traditional Yucatan hacienda before returning to your Cancun hotel.

This was one of thee best excursions I have ever had. We were able to climb and touch portions of the site. The guide did an excellent job of informing us of each structure and the role that each one played in the Mayan lifestyle. Showed amazing hospitality of what Mexico has to offer definitely don’t miss out

Viator: your advertisement needs...

Viator: your advertisement needs updating urgently.The tour company that was contracted for this tour was great, however the Viator advertisement is misleading. Viator's advertisement stated: Climb to the top of the Pyramid of the Soothsayer for panoramic views of the surrounding countryside - you cannot climb this particular temple at Uxmal.We did climb the stairs of a much smaller temple which was still wonderful, but it was not what I paid for, I wanted to climb the temple of the Soothsayer. Viator's advertisement also stated: Explore a cacao farm - I soon discovered that there are no cacao farms in this part of the Yucatan so we could not go and see one. We did however see the cacao being prepared into the traditional drink at Chocostory and experience a traditional ceremony to Chaak - this was great. The tour operator did their best to satisfy our desires and was very knowledgeable and patient when we wanted to explore Uxmal.
