Our tour guides Carlos and Ricardo were awesome. We learned a lot about history of Mayans and enjoyed the tour of Chichen Itza and swam in the cenote which was a wonderful experience. We didn’t have to wait to pick up the passengers since they had arranged separate transportation for each group to collect in one place that saved a lot of time.

The most memorable moments were seeing Chichen Itza and swimming in the Ik Kil Cenote. It was hot outside, and we moved quickly as a group. The tour guide did his best to keep everyone together, although it may have worked out better to give everyone a meeting time at a specific location so people could move around the sites at their own pace. At Chichen Itza, we were given 15-20 minutes of free time; ten minutes later our guide and group had disappeared. The confusion coupled with the heat elevated emotions and created unnecessary stress. Additionally, we did not make it back to our hotel until after 10 p.m., which added to the stress because we were flying out early the next morning. Ultimately, adhering to a more accurate agenda and giving people the option to either move with the group or meet at a specific time and place would have made a long day more enjoyable

The visit to Chichen Itza ruins was very interesting. The swim on the Cenote was also exciting. The trip was a bit long. I would have been satisfied to end after the Cenote swim.

Well worth it!
Eric_F, June 2023
Chichen Itza is certainly well qualified as one of the new 7 Wonders and was a fantastic experience. Our tour guides Christian and Gabriel were well-informed and truly passionate about the culture and history, which really came through in the tour and through their interactions with visitors. The ik Kil cenote visit was also a 10/10 and a great time enjoying the unique geology and a fascinating insight into the culture and history of the indigenous people of the Yucatan and their resourcefulness in using the cenotes for drinking water and cultural ceremonies. The lunch and opportunity to be immersed even more in the Mayan culture was great and the stop in Valladolid, while brief, was a wonderful conclusion to the day.
Response from Host, June 2023

We are glad that you enjoyed the unique geology and gained a fascinating insight into the culture and resourcefulness of the Yucatan's indigenous communities. It's wonderful to hear that you also appreciated the immersive experience of the Mayan culture during lunch. Don’t do it. It’s 14 of product promotion and shopping.
Victoria_W, June 2023
This one day ruined our whole trip. Sadly it was our last day and the day that my kids will remember most as the worst day ever. We came on this long ride to see Chichen, wonder of the world. We spent most of our day waiting in shops, waiting for buffet, waiting, waiting, on the bus, we had exactly 20 mins at suytun, our guide told us we could swim or take a pic but not both. Hurry hurry. We had 10 mins there after you get off bus and through the lines. Then we were taken to some area never advertised for shopping and lunch. We were forced to wait in an extremely overpriced store. It was triple the amount of money as it was at suytun. Then we were told lunch was ready and led yet into another shop we forced to wait in for a bit before letting us out. Lunch was hurry hurry again. We went to chichen only to be told we had 20 mins or else the next cenote would be closed. After we got through the line (we were delayed and rerouted from group to have to get the child bracelet) by time we got to group, we had 10 mins to hear/see everything. We were with the Spanish group but needed English but our guide had left without us. How does a guide leave without you? He should’ve seen we were rerouted for child bracelet. I immediately contacted viator on chat and asked for help. They asked me if I had a what’s app number and where am I from. Disturbing that they didn’t have that info since we had a whole text thread from booking to pickup. We finally found the guide, and now we had 7 mins left. Our guide told us chichen was used for astronomy purposes. Sun. Moon. Stars. That the ball court never was used to play games. He said they watched the stars there. We didn’t learn an ounce of history. Only that it’s about the stars and sun and moon. What did they do there back then? Did they just sit on the ground gazing at the sky? Come on really? Didn’t learn any of the structures. We had three mins to take pics and walked away feeling rushed and forbidden to purchase anything there because they do not give you time and prices were cheaper by far but they said it doesn’t help locals. We had 20 mins at chichen Itza. We left at 6:50am and we had 20 mins at one cenote and twenty mins at chichen itza. Even if we hadn’t gotten rerouted away from our group, even if we had the whole 20 mins there, by the time you walk to the pyramid, there’s not enough time to view and learn and enjoy. This was devastating. The most monumental piece of the trip, we were unable to experience. This feels heartbreaking and like a completely robbery of money for over $500 USD I was hurried through this marvelous wonder, I could only see one part of it. Who knows what else is there even. And I live in the USA so I will never have the chance to see this wonder again. I trusted my trip in your hands. I just don’t understand how 14 hours and I had 20 mins of chichen itza. Most of my day we spent waiting or in shops for $500. I’m so mad that we didn’t learn anything. I should’ve boughten an audio tour. I’m so mad. I dragged my kids for this. We then went to ik kil. We had one hour there and sat around bored. We jumped in several times and then had nothing to do. We waited. Why did we race out of chichen only to be bored at ik kil. Ik kil was beautiful but we stayed in the water 20 mins, jumped in repeatedly, walked around, and still had time to kill. Many pics of us you’ll find us sitting on the ground and waiting. We arrived back at 10:15pm. 6:50am-10:15pm all for 20 mins at chichen. I’m mad I wasted money that I don’t really have to spend, i am not rich. But I wanted to give my kids history and we were robbed of it all for them trying to make us shop from stores that are wrongfully overpriced. They kept talking about having good energy and doing right by the spirits- well then how can they live with themselves scamming visitors especially Americans? Ruined our day and time. Wasted my money. My children will always remember Mexico to be the worst trip ever. If I didn’t make it clear yet, 14 hours of product promotion.
Response from Host, July 2023
Dear Victoria, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us, and we sincerely apologize for the disappointment and frustration you encountered during your tour to Chichen Itza. We understand how important this visit was to you and your family, and we deeply regret that it did not meet your expectations. Firstly, we would like to apologize for the excessive waiting times you experienced throughout the day. We understand that waiting can be tedious and it can negatively impact the overall experience. We strive to ensure that our shared tours run smoothly and efficiently, providing ample time for exploration and enjoyment. However, the logistics for the shared tours often depend not only on the tour operator's efforts but on the group also. We will review our processes to prevent similar issues in the future. Regarding the limited time you had at Suytun, we apologize for the rushed experience. Our intention is to provide all our guests with the opportunity to both swim and capture memorable photos. We value your feedback and will take it into consideration to improve the itinerary and ensure a more balanced and enjoyable visit for future guests. As for the shopping stop, our only goal is to provide opportunities for local artisans and vendors to showcase their products. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by that. We are truly sorry to hear that the time allotted for Chichen Itza was not sufficient for you to fully explore and learn about this incredible archaeological site. Our guides are trained to provide insightful historical information about the various structures and their significance. Your feedback will be shared with our team to ensure that future tours allow for a more immersive experience at Chichen Itza. Additionally, we would like to highlight that for travelers seeking a more personalized and tailored experience, we offer private tours. Private tours provide the opportunity to customize the itinerary according to your preferences, allowing for a more leisurely pace and the ability to spend more time at each attraction. This ensures that you can fully immerse yourself in the history and beauty of Chichen Itza without feeling rushed or waiting for the rest of the group. We understand that each traveler has unique needs and expectations, and we always strive to provide options that cater to individual preferences and budgets. We sincerely apologize if this information was not adequately communicated during your booking process, and we encourage you to consider a private tour in the future for a more exclusive and personalized experience. Once again, we sincerely apologize for the negative impact this tour had on your overall trip and the memories you and your family have of Mexico. We appreciate your feedback as it allows us to identify areas of improvement and enhance the quality of our services. We value our guests' satisfaction and hope that you will give us another opportunity to provide you with a memorable and enjoyable tour experience in the future. Kind regards, OlMar Travel Mexico

Did what they said, but fell way short
Feliz_D, Apr 2023
Did we do everything that we were supposed to do yes. But the experience lacked from my past experience to Chichén Itzá. Be prepared to take a huge passenger van. We were picked up at 7:30 but had to pick up the additional 50 people which means we did not get started on the trip until at least 10 o’clock. Our tour guide begin to give us some wonderful information about the archaeological site, but then after 30 minutes lost our attention. He finally got frustrated and told us how lucky we were to be where we were at. He asked us if you wanted to continue and some people said no, but he continued on. The reason why it was a sales pitch to buy a certain product at the local shop where you eat. After lunch you go to Chichén Itzá. Which really is port planning. Last time I went we went to Chichén Itzá First, while it was still cool. This time. We were there at 1 o’clock. In the heat of the day. Luckily, we brought lots of water and bought some more. Recommendation to go on a tour that ensures that you go early in the morning to beat the heat, after Chichén Itzá, they took us to a cenote. After reading the fine print, it says that it will take you to the cenote not that you necessarily will get in. Our tour guy told us that we had less than an hour to shower, change, rent rent, the lifejacket get into the cenote, which was super packed and then get back change and be back at the bus. Our last tour that we took, we went to a wonderful cenote, which only had about 10 other people there after that we went to the city of Valladolid. As we got back on the bus, the tour bus allowed a vendor to get on and try to sell us some of their tequila. Once again, another sales pitch. As we approach the city, our tour guide informed us that we could not stay long. He told us that we would only have 25 minutes for this stop. Which allowed us just to get a few ice creams. Once again, the tour did everything it promised. But everything felt rushed and everything had a sales pitch with it. Multiple times we were told that we needed to buy certain products or tip people because that is “ how people earn money” from the tours. Make sure that the tour gets a Chichén Itzá early and that you get plenty of time to explore both the city and the cenote.
Response from Host, Apr 2023
Dear Travelers, Thank you for sharing your feedback on your recent Chichén Itzá tour with us. We value your honesty and constructive criticism, and we are committed to using your comments to improve our future tours. While we understand that the van size may not have been ideal for your comfort, we do our best to ensure all guests are safe and accommodated. Our shared tours are popular, especially during peak seasons like Spring Break, and we have found that larger vehicles are necessary to accommodate all of our guests. However, we do offer small group and private tours for travelers seeking a more exclusive experience. We acknowledge that the timing of the tour may not have been ideal for everyone, but we want our guests to understand that it takes several hours to arrive at Chichén Itzá from Cancun. As a result, it may not be possible to arrive at the site during the cooler parts of the day, especially during hot months like spring and summer. We appreciate your feedback on our tour guide's communication skills and will take it into consideration as we continue to improve our offerings. Additionally, while we offer opportunities for guests to purchase local products, we understand that this should not detract from the overall historical and cultural significance of the sites we visit. We acknowledge that every traveler has unique preferences, and we strive to cater to these needs to ensure that our guests have a memorable experience. We understand that some guests may prefer a more intimate and personalized experience, with smaller vehicles and flexible schedules that can be tailored to their needs. For these discerning travelers seeking a more exclusive and customizable experience, we offer our small group and private tours. These tours provide a more intimate setting, with fewer people and a more personalized itinerary that can be adjusted to meet the specific needs and preferences of each guest. We are committed to providing our guests with the best possible experience, and we encourage all travelers to explore our range of tour offerings to find the one that best suits their individual needs and preferences. Again, thank you for choosing us as your tour operator, and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you on a future tour. Sincerely, OlMar Travel Mexico Team

Great Trip but no souvenir.
Maria_M, Apr 2023
The trip was well organized, kudos to that. But we didn't get a chance to buy souvenirs (like keychains and ref magnets that we collect when we travel) because there was no time alloted for that. So sad I don't have a memorabilia of the Chichen Itza.

Much less than we hoped
Edward_J, Apr 2023
Crammed into an undersized van with 20 people, no room for bags except on your lap for a 3 hour drive each way. Chichen Itza was rushed with 1 hour total - not 2 1/2 hours as advertised. We were pressured not to buy from local vendors there and were rushed through the site, so couldn’t even if we tried. The cenote was awesome but 1 hour there total, leaving about 1/2 hour in the pool outside of changing and walking. The buffet lunch was excellent but large drinks were extra $6 each. Then came the likely reason not to shop elsewhere - they shuttled us into the village store which had nice items, but very limited selection and very overpriced. The 25 minutes at the colonial town was enough because all the ethnic clothing stores were essentially the same. Would have wanted much more free time at Chichen Itza to explore rather than the additional Mayan experiences. FYI, there was no ceremony as advertised (not a complaint).

Let’s look at a picture I took, not the actual thing 100 feet away

Starting this review I think the biggest problem was that being at the location, we spent more time looking at the guides pictures of a different location, the same exact location, and a picture that was a picture from a magazine instead of enjoying the actual locations. We rushed through chicken Itza- looked two of the many buildings, but spent a lot of time for the guide to find pictures on his phone. Instead of spending those 29 minutes, we could have seen the largest game area a few feet away or even spend a few minutes to look at the columns. Then we were rushed to the cenote. All said we had time to get the life jacket, change, walk down, jump in, then it was time to leave. A total of 45 minutes. I know everyone has a reason why they go somewhere, my reason was to see the location - not a picture that was taken months or years earlier. Everyone, this is a bus tour and alll of the locations. Are bus tours. That means there are lots of people doing the same thing. Mayan. Ok then we are taken to a location where lunch is served. Thing group buffet. Then many minutes in the “Mayan” craft store that has inflated prices of the exact same items you will see at the next stop, but not commissionable to the tour guide. Case in point there was an item I liked but it was 215 at the craft location. The same exact item at the Mayan tour not connected with the tour guide (read same exact thing) was 150. I know people need to make money and when you are part of a guided tour you will pay in many ways, just be aware of it and you can enjoy yourself, you know what I mean.
