This excursion was a great experience. We got to travel to ancient Mayan ruins and learn about their history and what happened to the Mayans. The ruins were majestic and something everyone should see. Afterwards, we were driven to a beautiful estate with villas and palm tress and an amazing view of Bacalar Lagoon. We got to eat some delicious tacos that were included with the price and offered all we can drink as well. There was a play area for kids, kayaks, chairs and tubes available. Our only complaint was that the swimming area has large and slippery rocks, but that's not really something that can be controlled so we understand. Our tour guide, Diego was very informative, funny and friendly. We definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Costa Maya. If you go, enjoy the "massage" on the drive there!!

It was a rainy day but our tour guide Ms Selena have some rain coats for us. She is very sweet and thoughtful. It was a very pleasant trip, and the unlimited piña colada is a plus.. worth recommending. ❤️

Great Staff, Just Too Many People

I can’t say enough about the staff on this excursion. They went out of their way to make sure each guest was happy. Eric was a knowledgeable ruins tour guide. If I return I will ask for a longer tour of the ruins with Eric. Unfortunately, there were four ships in Costa Maya on that SUPER hot and humid day. The ruins were packed. After the ruins we ate lunch and lingered around a private area on Bacalar Lagoon. We were the last group to arrive at the “resort,” and there was no room to eat under the shade of the covered open area where they served food and drinks. The staff quickly put out extra tables, but we had to eat in the sun, which had me hating on the people eating in the shaded eating area! The beach area was packed by the time our group arrived, so all of the loungers (very few) were already taken. My son did enjoy the canoes that were available at no charge! The lagoon is beautiful, but the area was jammed full of tourists. It was difficult to relax because of the large number of people there that day. I think this would be an excellent excursion if we had gone when the weather was slightly less hot and humid, and when less ships were at the port. I’m not sure if this company has contracts with the cruise ships, but if so I assume they had too many tourists on their hands that day. I would not recommend this excursion if more than two ships are in Costa Maya. However, the staff tried very hard to keep everyone happy. It wasn’t their fault that the excursion was overbooked, yet they remained committed to pleasing their customers. Hats off to Eric and Lorenzo. We may try the ruins tour next time we visit (if there are two or less ships at the port), and we will certainly ask for them to guide the tour.

Our family of 7 had a great time! Elliot and Evan were very knowledgeable and very helpful. They shared a lot of history at the Mayans ruins. The lagoon was refreshing and the tacos were amazing. This is a must do, to support the smaller local companies. Do not miss the pineapple salsa!

Informative and friendly tour guide. Defin worth the money! Ruins were great to see. Had a stop at a pineapple stand with option to buy! Delicious! Bacalar lagoon not what I expected but enjoyed it. Was more like a small resort at side of lake. Had lunch there. Small portions served by guide which were delicious and had option of lining up for seconds if we wanted. Just a few tubes and kayaks available free with no time limit. Overall a good trip. Many reminders to not forget to tip which seems to be standard for all the excursions we took!!

Caution - lagoon is not what you think

The ruins portion of the trip was fine - it is a small area to see, but interesting. The Bacalar Lagoon is another story. The property we were taken to has roughly 50 beach chairs, positioned on gravel (there is no sand, it is not a beach). There were at least 200 people who came bus after bus to the lagoon, so the beach chairs were gone. There were some folding chairs by the restaurant that could be used, but it wasn't what was advertised. As far as swimming, bring water shoes because the area is extremely rocky, and the rocks are slippery. It was downright dangerous to try to walk in. The food was just ok, it wasn't very hot. It consisted of tortillas with chicken or pork along with tortilla chips and dips. The bar was a small area set up outside with 2 kinds of soda in 2-liters (Coke and Diet Coke), pineapple juice, water, and bottles of rum, tequila, etc. While the view was pretty, the number of people they pack in to sit on a gravel "beach" for 3 hours without chairs is not at all worth it.

Our tour guide ERICK made this trip so memorable from his personal connection to the Chacchoben ruins and the Mayan history, but the highlight was the unscheduled roadside stop to purchase local fruit with chili powder and salt! A delicious way to experience local treats! We will request ERICK next time in the area. Highly recommend!

A tropical paradise

I can not say how wonderful this excursion was. The transportation was great with very clean and new Vans. Yoshi was our guide to the Mayan site and she is wonderful. Once we got to the ruins Eric continued with the tour and he was very knowledgeable and fun to be with. After the tour, Eric #2 took us to the Bacalar lagoon. The trip there is a little long and the road leading up to the resort was bumpy, however it was worth every minute. The resort is gorgeous and blew our minds. The food was delicious, with our favorite being the pork tacos with pineapple salsa. The drinks were great too. I had a pineapple margarita and my wife and son had virgin Pina coladas. They were terrific. The water us a beautiful blue and it is fresh water not salt. We had only two complaints, one being that we could not stay longer because our cruise was leaving too early for our liking and maybe the air conditioning could have been cooler but it was a hot day. If we return to Costa Maya, we are going to do our whole day at the resort. I would give them 10 stars if allowed. DO NOT SKIP ON THIS EXCURSION. It's worth every penny.

Great value trip

Solid excursion, much better value than booking directly with the cruise line. The ruins and history around it was nice. I do wish we could spend more time there but we were one of the first groups that made it to the lagoon so that was nice. The lagoon is actually a fresh water area, I think I would have preferred to go to the beach instead and swim in the ocean. Not a bad spot, tacos served for lunch were good and simple drinks were all included so that was nice. Overall, recommended to anyone who's visiting for the first time. I probably would do just the Mayan city part without the lagoon. Tour guide Edder and driver Abner were really nice folks. Thank you for showing us around!

This was the best tour! Our tour guide, Elliott, was THE BEST! He knew an enormous amount about Mayan history, the area, was funny, and super friendly. BEST tour and guide I've ever had!! The value was spot on. The pick up time was perfect. Going from ruins to lagoon & back was perfect timing. No waiting. The van was comfortable and had A/C. The driver, Ashmel (sp?) was great, friendly, very good driver. Our guide at the ruins, Luis, was very knowledgeable. We were so happy with his expertise in the ruins. One thing to keep in mind, the walk from the RCCL port is a ways off port. We had to ask directions twice. No biggie..just keep that in mind. I would recommend this tour hands down! FYI: There's a good amount of walking to tour bus and on the tour. PS: I tried to upload our pictures but couldn't. IDK why.

Very incompetent tour operators in Costa Maya

The tour operator canceled part of our tour saying the ship was late The true is that they have mixed us with a short tour group and didn’t want to have two buses They used bad faith and we want to be reimbursed by the diference of prices

Rough Day

Poor Salina, we had a rough day. No difficulty finding the meeting point, all was smooth. I cannot stress enough how much time was spent learning and repeating names. I know they have to check, but something was off on the list. Staff missed an opportunity to educate us on history on the drive. The best tours we have ever taken teach on the long drive and this did not happen. I napped. Upon arrival for bathroom break and a quick walk around the gift shop we moved to the first site without guide who we later learned had left without our group. Most likely a mixup but we missed the education on the first two sites then joined the group at the last. Salina did ask Diego to provide info at the end. It was just not a smooth experience. The lagoon was a nice end to the trip but it is a long drive down a bumpy road, no beach area. I like the water but my husband wasn't interested in the rocky water.

Loved Chacchoben!

We were traveling with a group of 6 and joined a larger tour of people. It was fantastic. We had an amazing, extremely knowledgeable tour guide who was born and raised in Chacchoben. In fact, he brought a unique perspective because growing up the pyramids were his “playground” as they were being uncovered to what we see today. There were more pyramids than we expected to see, which was a surprise to us. Be sure to wear good quality sneakers for walking. Our daughter wore strap sandals that ended up breaking when climbing up to see the additional pyramids. I, personally, could have did without the Bacalar Lagoon. It was fine. The food was definitely good and the water was beautiful under the sun. But otherwise, it isn’t ideal for swimming because it was slippery and rocky.
