Your tour will depart one hour after your cruise arrives to port from Plaza Las Fuentes, just a few steps away from Costa Maya Port. Once your reservation is confirmed, we will send you detailed and easy to follow directions to the meeting point and a map. Please consider the total time to walk from your cruise to the excursion office is about 15 minutes. IMPORTANT Travelers coming by cruise ship must provide the ship's full name.

Elliott was out tour guide and he did a phenomenal job. He gave us a tremendous amount of information about himself, his culture, and his family. Elliott is Mayan and the hour drive from the port to the Mayan ruins was full of stories, and great information. I highly recommend this tour and Elliott as your guide. The lunch served once we arrived at the lagoon was delicious and he placed our drink order before we got there to save on time. We even got to see some monkeys in their natural habitat while walking through the jungle to reach one of the Mayan sights.

Not flexible and not worth the effort.

We were booked for 6 people and two of the party became sick the night prior. I called and spoke with both Viator and the local operator and they both kept sending me back to one another to decide if a refund was warranted. Neither would make the call. So at the tour, the local operators kept giving me different names to approve with no resolution. The tour was a long walk to pick up, a long 60 minute ride to the Mayan site where we spent 30 minutes and then drove another 30 minutes to drop another group off from another excursion the opposite way. We then had to drive 50 minutes back to the lagoon where we were the last people to leave. This robbed us an extra hour that could have been spent in Roatan. All around a bust. We were bummed.

Not worth it

The bus was at least 30 minutes picking us up, then when we arrived they said you had to have water shoes which was $12 each to rent. Also locker was $12 to rent. My wife and others found it difficult to walk the rocky path (20 minutes) in the thin water shoes. We assume we would ride our individual tubes down the river but we were tied together and lead by someone walking us on a lead. Food was okay but it was difficult to find a place to sit. Overall not worth the time or money.

Overall our family was satisfied with this excursion. Our ship ran late getting there. They still had us back on time so the tour guide would do all the explaining while walking so I liked that. I wish we had got a minute to buy some things at the ruins but that’s ok they did let us stop at the fruit stand. The food was good the drinks was good. The driver and tour guide was great. We was with Edders group. I would definitely go again with this company. Great job guys. We loved the ruins and the lagoon.

We had book the trip to Chaccoben Mayan Ruins AND Bacalar Lagoon tour. The local tour company told us that they coul not take us to the Lagoon because there was not enough time, due to the ship time departure. Other tours booked directly from the ship, did both - the Ruins and the Lagoon in that same day. We became very disapointed with the local company for not accomodating the needs of 4 people (we and our friends) . All the other 9 people in the van had booked only the trip to the Mayan ruins.

Our guide Edder? was nice and knowledgeable. Beyond that - that is the best I can say for the day. I enjoyed looking at the ruins but that part lasted a short while. Once we left to go to the "lagoon" it was downhill. We were told on the LONG trip over that there were 3 miles of the lagoon - they didn't mention that we only got to access about 150 yards of waterfront. We purchased the ruins, the lagoon with kayak and lunch. When we got there, there was already an entire tour there that did the kayak and lunch. There were only about 25 chairs available and all were taken when we got there. That left us sitting in metal chairs. Lunch was good - we got 2 tacos and a drink. We walked over to try the kayaking but were told that the other tour "PAID" for theirs so they got to use them. I told her that we ALSO paid for it and she just walked away. It was pretty but not worth the money nor the time it took to participate. The guide was very nice though.

We would like to clarify that Bacalar Lake is the second biggest lake in Mexico, and our tour only visits one area of the lake. We understand that you were expecting to access more waterfront, and we apologize if this was not communicated clearly enough. We do, however, want to clarify that we have enough chairs to accommodate all of our guests, and we actually close out sales during high season to ensure a hassle-free experience for our guests. Regarding the kayaking, we apologize for the misunderstanding. It is not our policy to give preference to any particular tour group, and we regret that this seemed to be the case during your visit. We will certainly look into this matter further to ensure that all of our guests are treated equally and have the opportunity to participate in all activities included in their tour package. Such and amazing experience! Our tour guide Diego was amazing and so knowledgeable! Getting to go to the lagoon after was such a great way to end the day as we got drinks, food and were able to go canoeing! Definitely worth the money for everything you get!
