What To Expect

Depart from Cusco in the morning, with pickup from your hotel and a transfer from the city center to your train station. Your departure location and travel experience depend on the seating option you’ve selected. Guests can choose from the Expedition train—the Vistadome, with glass on all sides for better viewing—or the Executive Class with comfortable seats.

Then enjoy a scenic train ride, offering stunning views of the mountainous terrain that makes up the area near Machu Picchu.

Arrive in Aguas Calientes, the small village located at the base of this famous Inca site, and board a bus for the short ride to this sacred citadel. Completed around 1450, when the Inca Empire was at the peak of its power and influence, the site was left vacant within 100 years of its creation, thanks to the conquest of the Inca people by the Spanish. Though the site today remains abandoned, many believe Machu Picchu to be a key center of spiritual energy.

Follow your guide through the main streets of this marvel of ancient engineering. Learn about the site’s history and design as you meander through its town square, key religious sites, an elaborate network of agricultural terraces, and intricately-designed stone staircases.

After spending a few hours at the site, return by bus to the train station in Aguas Calientes and then to your chosen train for the trip back to Cusco.

The guided tour inside Machu Picchu takes around 2h 30m following a delimited route.

Shifts entry by hours from 6 am to 2 pm. Our shared tour considers 9 am, 10 am and 11 am shifts. If the shifts are not available, we will open a new shared tour in the next hour available. Our staff will inform you for acceptance.

Machu Picchu has two seasons. Rainy season from December to March. Dry season, the rest of the year.
What to bring: sunglasses, comfortable clothes and shoes, hat, repelent, sunscreen, water bottle, energy power bank, coat, small backpack, raincoat on rainy season from December to March.
Passengers must arrive in Cusco one day before the tour since the day of the tour the pick-up is provided early in the morning.
This service is confirmed in shared, so arriving at the Aguas Calientes station, there could be a waiting time of up to 40 minutes to start the tour to Machu Picchu.
A notification reconfirming the meeting or pick up time will be sent through viator or tripadvisor experiences extranet a day before the service.
From January to March, for weather reasons, all excursions departs on bimodal service bus&train. Bus Cusco/Ollantaytambo & train departs from Ollantaytambo.

our visit was also very sunny and very hot we visited in late Sept 2018 so pack a hat that covers your neck or your umbrella because you will get sunburned!

This was on Peru Rail, not sure if situation is different with Inca Train, but be prepared by bringing a breathing mask or something to cover you nose and mouth especially if you have asthma.

The site is very accessible although there are a lot of steep stairs to navigate.

Awesome experience! With all the connections and moving parts on this tour I’m very pleased that everything turned out great! The train ride was smooth and comfortable. The actual hike up to Machu Picchu was not as bad as I thought it was going to be. We’re dropped off at the base and did a short hike up and then walk all throughout Machu Picchu. Looking back, I do wish I would have done a longer hike, but there’s always next time.

I highly recommend this tour to anyone who wishes to visit Machu Picchu. Our tour guides were really knowledgeable, friendly, and eager to make our experience more memorable one. They showed me lots of great photo spots and photo-taking techniques. Most of the time was spent on train ride (3.5h×2), but it was surprisingly comfortable. We've enjoyed amazing scenery from windows (upper/side), snacks/drinks, entertainment and chat with other participants throughout the ride. This was my first visit to Peru (or, Latin America) and with great helps of supportive guides, I made a precious memory once-in-a-lifetime.

Had the most incredible day at Machu Picchu. From 4am hotel pickup, the staff were extremely helpful and settled my worries that the multi-stop/transport would be overwhelming for a non-spanish speaker. Once we got to macchu picchu we met our guide Franklin! Wow! What a service he provided. So informative and encourages us to take photos and videos at every view point! So grateful for the memories!! Highly recommend! Also note, it was freezing in the morning leaving from Cusco in the morning but hot at machu picchu so definitely wear layers you can offload!

Marko, worked with our age, 73, and dissabilities, knee replacements. He made our trip very doable and entertaining. His knowledge of Machu pichu and Incan history was beyond what we were expecting. This trip is very organized. I got helpful reminders via WhatsApp from the operator days before the travel to the day before the activity. Everything was on time from pick up to train transfers. Our guide Edgar is very knowledgeable and patient (we took pictures almost every stop :). He also took us at Apu restaurant for our early dinner (not included in the package). Food is amazing.
