Time well spent
Heather_D, May 2023
John really knew what he was talking about. He stopped to let us take photos and happily answered any possible questions that we might have had. His enjoyment of his work is apparent and infectious. I, as a person who burns easily, also very much appreciated his dedication to making sure any time we stopped and had a chat, it was in the shade. A really wonderful time. If you have the time and want to get to know Darwin a little better, this is the way to go
Excellent tour
Irene_E, Mar 2023
John did a spectacular job of walking us around Darwin. He showed us some places we would have never seen. A great heritage tour of Darwin.
Great Informative Walk

William_S, July 2022
The best part were the stories and anecdotes, which brought the city to life. The walk covered many aspects of city life and the interesting characters who dwelled in Darwin. It was well paced and the two hours passed in no time.
Response from Host, Aug 2022
Hi William_S, there certainly is a lot to discover about Darwin City and it's people, isn't there? We appreciate your feedback, particularly that the tour is well paced. Thanks!
Walking splendid history without the yawns
justin_p, July 2022
Amazing informative guide who had lived in Darwin 30 years. Learnt.so many stories about current and past Darwin; fascinating local folk law and proud interesting cultural as well as historical tales. A must for tourists
Response from Host, Aug 2022

Darwin Heritage Walking Tour - Excellent
annemarie_b, Apr 2022
Very informative about Darwin and it's history. Guide also answered questions which would have been on the other tours and recommended some local things to do which turned out to be great suggestions.
Response from Host, July 2022
We thank you for joining the Darwin Heritage Walk and then leaving this wonderful review! Safe journeys
The guide was...
Sarah_M, Apr 2022
The guide was knowledgeable and friendly and it was great to learn about the impact of the bombing and cyclone. I felt, however, disappointed at the silence about the Larrakia people, other than an intro to their calendar. What was the nature of first contact here? What happened to the Aboriginal people living here in early years of the township? Some decades after the Mabo judgement we should have moved beyond referring to 'settlement' by white people, as though no one was settled here before. The land was not ceded. It was invaded or colonised. These are not just words: being truthful about the past is critical in facing up to our history and working towards reconciliation.
Response from Host, May 2022
Thank you for taking a moment to share your enjoyment of the Darwin Heritage Walk and provide feedback on the content that you found lacking. They are all valid questions which you were welcome to have asked the guide whilst on tour as it may have provided more information. Our guides are well-researched and capable of adapting the commentary to cater for the interests of the group.
Great walking tour

Michael_K, Oct 2021
Interesting details regarding the history in and around Darwin. The walking tour was done at an easy pace, very enjoyable.

Our goal is to keep the stories of Darwin alive, and I’m ecstatic that we were able to make it happen for you through the interesting details your guide provided.
An excellent and thoroughly educational experience.
Edward_N, Oct 2021
Our guide John was outstanding. This was more than a guided walk, it was a wonderful expose of the recent history of the north of Australia, told in a manner that kept us enthralled throughout the walk.
Excellent introduction to Darwins history
Sarah_C, Sept 2021
John was an excellent guide. Would recommend this tour for all ages and groups. John was very goid at imparting his extensive knowledge.
Response from Host, Oct 2021
Shhhh... don't tell anyone, Sarah_C, but John's extensive knowledge comes from the USB plugged into the port under his hat ;-) Thank you for taking a moment to leave this review, we appreciate receiving feedback from guests, particularly when it comes with a recommendation like this! So pleased to hear you enjoyed the walk.
Interesting walk with a personal touch.
JanBob, Aug 2021
Excellent guide Gave us some interesting and detailed information about the heritage buildings in the CBD, Thank you John
Interesting and very enjoyable.
Sharyn_S, Aug 2021
I found the guide really interesting. There was so much I did not know about Darwin and he really opened my eyes to a lot of things. He put in a lot of effort and made the walk enjoyable and informative.
Response from Host, Aug 2021
Thank you for your comment Sharyn_S. John enjoys talking about Darwin and he continually tries to find new information. We are glad you found our stroll enjoyable.
Should be called the Life Of Brian Tour
Anna_M, May 2021
This would have to be the worst tour that i have ever been on in all my years of travelling. All the reviews before we booked mentioned how wonderful John was. Unfortunately we had Brian. The tour should have been renamed "the life of Brian tour". He only spoke about himself and his second wife Janice and their life in Darwin. He was a lovely man but that was not what we booked for. There were the max of 6 on the tour and the 2 others not in our group left after 40 minutes. We were just so disappointed that they made the decision to do it before us. A total waste of our holiday time and money and Brian told us ABSOLUTELY Nothing about Darwin and the few questions we asked his response was "well i must look that up"
Response from Host, June 2021
Thank you for taking a moment to review your Darwin Heritage Walk tour, Anna_M. It is through guest feedback that Walk Darwin receive insight to the guest experience and we see that your's was not up to our usual standard. We apologise for the experience you, and all the other guests had with this guide on the departure in mid-May 2021. The guide has been with Walk Darwin for 3 years and this departure was the first time there has been feedback indicating poor performance. He has met all regular appraisals and spoke kindly of all the guests when debriefed by management on feedback received for the departure you joined. Walk Darwin is incredibly disappointed that our guests have not received the experience they were expecting, it is not what we are in business for. Please be assured that we have taken all steps within our human capacity, to ensure the experience you had is not repeated. We thank you once again, Anna_M, we are grateful for all guest reviews as they enable us to keep focussed on our number one priority of providing guests with a memorable tour of Darwin for all the right reasons! We hope you will never encounter another tour in all your future years of travelling, as you did with this guide on this day.
Would not recommend
Joy_P, May 2021
Brian was punctual friendly. Unfortunately he was diffuse to understand and the information he imparted at times was inaccurate. Brian consentrated a lot on trivial information and not enough of the historical background. He was long on personal info and short on factual history of Darwin. We felt that this was an expensive tour and not worth the $’s
Response from Host, May 2021
Oh, dear! On behalf of Walk Darwin, I apologise that our tour was not what you had hoped it would be and it is therefore understandable that you feel it wasn't worth the ticket price. Thank you for taking a moment to share your experience, as reviews allow us to evaluate our guest expectations. Please take consolation in the knowledge that based on your feedback we have taken steps to ensure there is no repeat of what you experienced.
Great Experience and great value for money
Carolyn_W, Dec 2020
John and Narida were amazing and went beyond what was expected. The alerted me on the Sunday evening that restricts had changed in the NT. They offered their support to help in what every way they could. Sent the NT press release and where I could get tested for Covid-19 well I was negative so our tour was back on track just delayed by a day or two. John was full of knowledge about Darwin and I leant so much that I would have not know if I hadn't taken the walk. Thank you Narida and John your made my trip to Darwin a positive one.
Response from Host, Jan 2021
Oh, you have us blushing, Carolyn! Thank you for leaving this review. Ensuring our guests have a great experience whilst in Darwin, is all part of the Walk Darwin service. It was our pleasure to have been able to assist you in a time of turmoil.... and even better was that you were still able to join your planned walk with us in the end. Stay safe.
Pleasant walk around Darwin city
SgCouple, Mar 2020
We enjoyed the walking tour with John around Darwin city. It’s was a small group, we only had another couple with us. The pace was good. John was knowledgeable. We wouldn’t have learnt as much about Darwin otherwise.
