What To Expect

Meet your guide and group in the early evening at a central meeting point. Then eat and drink your way through some of the city’s top eateries for locals, an aspect of Tokyo few tourists ever get to experience.

Stop by Gado Shita, a busy restaurant area located directly under the city’s elevated train tracks. Wander amidst the narrow streets, blazing neon sights, and enticing smells of this culinary hot spot, an area which hearkens back to Japan in the 1970s. Stop by a selection of local ‘izakayas’ (pubs) frequented by residents, where you try out different varieties of ‘yakitori’ and drinks.

Head next to Tokyo’s upscale Ginza neighborhood, an area that provides the perfect contrast to the labyrinths of Gado Shita. Marvel at the upscale food shops selling $500 designer melons and let your mouth water as you pass by meticulously-decorated pastries in the display cases of local retailers.

Finish your food exploration by visiting Shimbashi, where you get a chance to take a deeper dive into some of Tokyo’s many rustic eateries and charming ‘izakayas.’ Finish your excursion in Shimbashi.

Good food, not worth the price
BruceBehrouz_H, Aug 2023
We have done a lot of food tours and this was the lightest. Two of the stops were mainly for advertising purposes where the shop owner lets you taste tea or cookies with the hope of selling you things. You don’t really need a food tour to sample. Josh our tour guide was knowledgeable and friendly. Overall light in food options, so don’t recommend. Highly priced.
Great food local ambience

We went to restaurants popular with the locals that we could not have tried by ourselves. Delicious food especially the mochi. Expect a lot of walking from one place to the other around Hinza

Very good way to see a small part of Tokyo, experience authentic Japanese food and meet new people. Our guide Shige’ was very good. Personable, professional and knowledgeable. Thanks!!
Fun tour with great restaurant stops

A wonderful tour! We thoroughly enjoyed each of the two restaurants and 3 quick stops that Kay to us to. Kay was a great guide and was hilarious and fun! She kept our group entertained with her facts and teaching. The food stops were all delicious and we enjoyed trying new things. Much different than a street tour which made it unique!
Unique and delicious

Insightful and delicious tour which featured places tourists would never find on their own. The guide was great and each place we visited was unique. Plenty of food and good vibes.
A Tasty Stroll Through Tokyo
Emilie_A, Feb 2023
Our tour guide, Norma, was fantastic. She's like a family member giving us a food tour. The 1st stop was the appetizer part which included seared bonito fish, drinks, and more. The 2nd stop was a tea shop where we sampled several green teas including cherry blossom green tea. The 3rd stop was dinner which included soba and other hot and cooked food. The 4th stop was a cookie and snack place. The last stop was dessert. You will definitely get full and all the stops were wonderful. This is a must-do.
excellent experience of local food and culture

ME and my wife met Hirotake Watanabe (our guide) and couple of other people that were in the same tour at the prespecified time and place. Already from the introduction it was clear that this would be a great tour with our guide that was open, fun, extremely knowledgeable and with a mission to have us enjoying the experience. We experienced the local food culture, got a lot of information for the areas we were walking through and tasted amazing Japanese food. We were getting answers to all our questions and all our needs were addressed in best possible way. One of the top experiences we had in Tokyo/Japan.
Great way to experience Tokyo

We had a really nice time during this tour with our guide Bryan. The total experience was really fun. Even though not everyone loved ALL the dishes that were in the tour, it didn't matter, because every dish had its own story and each location that we visited was special. There were vegan and vegetartian and pescatarian options. I can highly recommend this tour.

Average at best
nlavellb, Sept 2018
The food tour of 3 neighborhoods sounded so fun! 18-20 tastings is what was listed and we got around 12-15 if you include the miso paste and sauces to add on the food. For the price, around $300/couple, the amount nor quality of food was not commensurate. If it would have been in the $50/pp price range would have made more sense. The tour guide was fantastic, though not as knowledgeable when it came to recommendations on things to do and places to eat in Tokyo. After the tour we were still very hungry and had to find a real dinner.

Fantastic tour! Highly recommend taking this. We enjoyed walking through the various areas, learning about the history of the city and of course the food. The size of the tour was just right. And we enjoyed the food so much we went to a few of the places on the days after our tour.

We got so much out of this tour! If it's on your to eat list, you'll probably have at least a small portion on this tour. So much food, and then a full meal at the end! We learned so much all along the way. Asami - Thank you for being a wonderful guide.

It was great getting around Kyoto on public transport and the sushi lunch was wonderful. It would have been better if the guide hada a few more details to share regarding the site we were visiting, but it was still a great tour.

Great tour! Food was fantastic and the tour guide was awesome. I learned a lot about Japanese food by region and got to ask my stupid cultural questions with a forgiving and friendly guide.
