What To Expect

Your Hobart sailing tour starts as you hop aboard your sleek racing yacht and set off along the River Derwent. While you witness what it takes to operate an ocean yacht like this, you can help the crew trim the sails and grind the winches, if you wish. Or just relax and admire the passing scenery, from the Hobart cityscape to views of Mt Wellington.

Head toward the Iron Pot lighthouse, and watch for wildlife like seals and dolphins. Then enjoy stories from your skipper about previous sailing adventures over morning or afternoon tea featuring gourmet Tasmanian items. Your tour ends when you return to the departure point.

When booking, select either the morning tour, which operates from October to March, or the afternoon tour from April to September.

Hobart (Pass By)

Sailors will see the beautiful city of Hobart, its historic docks and surrounding mountains and forests from the large sheltered harbour. Sometimes there will be other yachts racing on the harbour and sometimes we will be visited by curious dolphins and seals. Very occasionally we will see whales and orca. Sailors will experience what it is really like sailing aboard a large ocean-going yacht, and they can take turns on the winches or even try their hand at the wheel if they like.

Mount Wellington (Pass By)

See Mt. Wellington and the surrounding forests and hills.

Windy day
Kevin_P, Feb 2022
Learning how to recognise that a wind squall is about to hit the boat by looking at the shadows and turbulence on the water. Learning about the weather patterns coming down from Mt Wellington to Hobart and the Derwent River. Having a turn at steering the sailing boat and learning how to adjust and allow for lag to keep the boat heading straight into the wind. Enjoying the experience socialising with crew and others out on the water.
Response from Host, Feb 2022
Sounds like you had a good time mate : ) Thanks for taking the time to write your review.
Sailing around the bay
Lindsay_A, Feb 2022
A lovely half day sailing around the bay. Fab scones and cheese. The weather was tame for our trip but this yacht would be stable and safe for all in a high wind. Thanks to Captain Finn and his crew for an enjoyable trip.
Response from Host, Feb 2022
Thanks for the kind review Lindsay. Hopefully we can get you out one day when the winds are a blowin.

Beautiful weather, fun group, friendly crews! What else can I ask? Yes, drinks and cheese were fantastic...! Homemade scones and tea... Amazing!! It was total of 5 of us in the session: Us, one more couple and a solo. They all were so lovely and definitely added more fun to the session.
