Overview
Combine hiking, waterfall swimming, and local cuisine with this tour in Las Monas Rainforest. You'll spend time learning about local plant life and cooling off in waterfall pools, with the option to jump from the top of some of the falls if you dare. You'll then head out to La Casita del Sabor for a local meal before returning to your hotel.

My husband Matt and I did this tour on a whim and I'm so glad we did because it was incredible.
Our guide was Pablo and truly he was so kind, talkative, personable, and I truly felt like he cared about getting to know us while out on the excursion. It was just us 3, so more of a private tour, and he gave us just enough space but also kept us company along the experience. It was really nice getting to know him, asking him questions about Costa Rica and learning about his culture, and sharing the hike with him!
The hike itself was so great. It was honestly more strenuous than I expected but for us it was totally fine. Wear shoes with grips on the bottoms - I wore hiking sandals and there were parts where my shoes were a bit slippery.
One of the coolest parts was having the option to scale a giant waterfall just using a rope! It was literally like rock climbing. I didn't feel confident because of my shoes, but Matt did it and it was amazing. The hike definitely gets physical so make sure you're comfortable walking along skinny paths, using a rope and your hands to climb rocks, and that you don't bring a lot of personal belongings that weigh you down - you won't need them.
Swimming in the waterfalls was also incredible. I felt like the time of the excursion was perfect, we had enough time but it wasn't too long or dragged on. It's also a very short drive from where you meet at Cafe Bohoio, which was great.
Lunch provided after the hike was delicious - one of my favorite authentic meals!
I would recommend taking this hike if you desire to go off the beaten path a bit, are up for a challenge, and want to have an experience that does not feel so touristy.

AMAZING TIME! The hike was a bit of a challenge which I enjoyed. The waterfalls were breathtaking and the food ar the end was to die for. The peach tea qas perfection.10/10 recommend.

Very strenuous, a little scary but amazing. Carlos made me feel very safe—he was patient, polite…pointed out all kinds of animals—dart frogs, snakes. The food was fresh and delicious.
Plan to get wet!! Pack a dry bag!

It was quite the trip. Joel and Jose were our tour guides. They were extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Wear shoes with some traction. The downhill can be sloppy.

FANTASTIC! Our guides were Pablo and Jefferson. They were exceptional - let us swim however long we wanted, took so many pictures for us, made sure we were safe, and brought us to a delicious lunch afterwards. I would 100% recommend this - was probably my favorite activity I did in Costa Rica.

We had a blast and the guides were exceptional. Our kids are 10,7, and 4 so we needed some guidance and help climbing the ropes and navigating the falls. Pablo, Abraham, and Josue were patient and friendly and always there to help.

We had the best time on our hike!! It was more challenging than we expected, but our tour guide Josue(sp?) was absolutely amazing. We learned about the trees and plants- he was very knowledgeable and shared really interesting facts. The waterfalls themselves were beautiful and refreshing. 10 out of 10 would recommend to anyone up for an exciting adventure!!!

Fun and challenging waterfall hike

We had a fantastic afternoon on this hiking/canyoneering excursion! While not for the faint of heart--there are steep climbs, slippery rocks, and critters to avoid--our guides, Pablo, Abraham, and Antonio, were attentive and readily assisted anytime we needed a hand. At times, they held out their hands, carried our backpacks, and even carried younger kids on their backs. The waterfalls and swimming holes were beautiful and well worth the effort to get to them and the lunch at the end of the experience was delicious and abundant. Note: I highly recommend wearing a swimsuit underneath quick-dry clothing and closed-toe water shoes on this hike. Bring hydration, sunscreen and bug spray too.

This trip was the highlight of our week in the Jaco area. The Josue cousins were amazing guides. So helpful and very good about making sure we were safe. This was the kind of day that definitely made you feel like you were in Costa Rica. The food at the Soda on the way home was amazing. Can't recommend these guys and excursion enough!!
