My wife and I had a private tour with Thabang, who is from Soweto. We were in good hands. He showed us around some upper, middle, and income areas of Soweto. We also visited the Hector Pieterson memorial and the Mandela House. Thabang was candid, informative, and charismatic. He gave us the whole truth about Soweto from his perspective. We'd recommend anyone interested in Soweto and its history to take a tour with him.

Half-day Soweto Tour

We spent a fantastic half day with Thabang touring every aspect of Soweto imaginable. Being from the area, he was able to explain the history, and how the community worked together to provide for themselves and their neighbors. The Mandela house was impactful as well. I would recommend Thabang and this tour for anyone who wants an in-depth look at one of the most vibrant townships in Johannesburg.

Soweto what a joy

We were picked up from our hotel by Thabang he was friendly and showed us the best placed in Soweto. Please make this trip if you have time as guides are local and will keep you safe. We were nervous about leaving the hotel, as we had heard lots of negatives. But with the right guides it’s perfectly safe same as any city, you just need to be aware of safety.

He showed us many areas of Soweto, including stops that were not the typical tourist spots. This allowed us to see the area and people in a much more intimate manner. Thabang our tour guide was brilliant! He gave us different options for the days plan to best suit us. He was very knowledgeable and was able to share his own family's history with us which made the tour very surreal. If you are at all interested in understanding the history and present day living in South Africa, this is a must. Thabang, our guide, was raised in Soweto and still lives in Soweto. He was great about sharing his experience and helping us truly understand how Soweto became the Sowero of today. Thabang was so open and honest. He wanted to make sure that we came out of this experience with a true grasp of how things were and how they are today. We were able to visit all areas fo Soweto, even the shanty area where we walked down the roads, visited with locals and asked questions. Please, take the time to visit. The culture is rich. The community is strong and we have to continue to educate.
