What To Expect
Choose from a morning or afternoon departure, and travel from your La Fortuna hotel to the Ecocentro Danaus in a provided shuttle. This small nature reserve provides a great opportunity to observe Costa Rica's famous biodiversity in an intimate and eco-friendly way. When you arrive, set off on a easy circuit trail through the secondary rain forest that is regenerating thanks to the park’s conservation efforts.
While walking through this protected ecosystem, learn about various habitats including a wetlands bird nesting grounds, a frog reproduction area, a medicinal plant grove, and a botanical garden featuring more than 600 different plant species. Catch sight of some 40 types of winged wonders in the butterfly garden, as well as larger animals like monkeys, sloths, turtles, caimans, and agoutis that make their home in the forest.
You can also explore Costa Rica's indigenous culture with a visit to the on-site Maleku House, which offers insight into the daily lives of a northern region tribe. After completing the loop trail, browse for souvenirs at the gift shop and enjoy a snack of fresh fruit before the return trip to your La Fortuna hotel.

Loved it. There were so many animals we would not have seen without our guide. Totally worth it.
