After each stop, our guide wrote notes
He would leave us in the car and talk to other people.
By the end of our trip, he stopped to help someone with starting up their car, and he disregarded that we wanted to go back home after ten hours of road trip.
I asked him not to do that cause I was worried, and he answered it would not take long.
To make a story short, after trying to help these people, his jeep broke down, his car battery drained, and the situation was not pleasant.

BJ’s knowledge of local area allowed us to see most attractions without any other people around. Definitely felt like we were on a private exclusive tour. BJ’s cliff jump also pretty cool!

We had Doug as our tour guide and he was amazing! Very educated on every place we went and we even pointed stuff out that we passed before even starting the trip and he had given us so much knowledge. We got to stop at so many places and weren't rushed on anything and got to spend quality time exploring everything!! Doug himself had motion sickness ads to help in the cases we had gotten sick which we both found super helpful as those roads really are rough!! We had a blast & was well worth what we spent. Doug also offered to take so many pictures of us so it was never uncomfortable he made us comfortable and took the time to want to get to know us!! The only thing I would check is prior weather or conditions!! Their was a landslide so we were not able to do it reverse and we were also informed that the red sand beach isn't allowing visitors at the moment which is a bummer. However this company definitely made up for it by giving us extra time to explore different places!!

We had the pleasure of having Mike as our guide. In typical Hawaiian style, he was extremely easy-going and made us feel as though were life long friends from the start. His knowledge of all the places to stop as well as where to avoid helped us experience all the magic that Maui has to offer while keeping us free from getting sucked into tourist traps. Would 100% recommend Hoaloha and Mike, in particular.

BJ is a top notch tour guide! The community of guided interacting adds an additional element we didn’t expect and we’re delighted by. BJ specifically is from the community and educated and made you feel like a visitor “not a tourist” as he shared.
This is a premium experience but it pays off. We would recommend doing road to Hana day 1 or 2 of your trip— it’s a long day but totally worth it and gets you to understand Hawaii and it’s unique landscape straight away before you sit by a pool/ocean for the rest of the visit.
Downside, check or ask about conditions prior. The company made up for it but there was a landslide and we did not do it reverse- so if you are booking in the next 1-3 months I likely wouldn’t get the reverse. Do traditional and wake up early.

BJ, our tour guide, was phenomenal. He showed us both the popular scenic spots and hard to get to areas that only locals frequent. Great tour for first time visitors to Maui and for those who want to get an exciting “Road to Hana” experience. We had a blast!

This was the highlight of our trip to Maui! Its a full day in a jeep and it is SO worth it! If it will be your first time doing the Road to Hana this is definitely the BEST way to do it. Let Hoaloha do the driving and fill you in on the area. There is so much to see, if your driving you're going miss a lot! Our driver Shane contacted us the evening before with some easy questions and we confirmed our pickup. He texted us the next morning letting us know he was coming. Shane was great, such a chill guy. Took us to some outstanding stops and just let us have some time to do our thing. Also took us to some off the beaten path stuff, SO MANY pictures!! The hui hui chicken at lunch was delicious!! He had drinks (water and juice) in the jeep which was clean and comfortable. It is a full day and you start early so be ready and no that's not a complaint. Thank you Shane and Hoaloha, it was GREAT!

We had a great experience with Kapena. It is definitely worth it to have a private tour. He gave us a lot of information about different places on the island we simply wouldn’t have known. We stopped when we wanted and it wasn’t rushed as some tour buses seem to be.

It was a great tour. Marcus personalized our trip for us to see and do the things we wanted. We are not into hiking so we did not include that in our itinerary. He stopped at all the great places, gave us the time we wanted at the beach and waterfall views, extra restroom stops when needed. He stayed with the jeep so we could feel safe leaving our bags in the jeep as we saw the sights. Was very glad we did not drive the Road to Hana ourselves the first time on it.
