Terrific Tour

Our tour guide, Tamara, was excellent. Her knowledge of the community and the terrain is impeccable. We really learned a lot about this part of Costa Rica and about the Bribri people in particular. Besides being knowledgeable, Tamara is very accommodating and worked at the pace of our small group. She went above and beyond to help us with our transfers back to San Jose and with information on getting COVID testing needed to travel back to the U.S., through a lab recognized by the U.S. State Department.

A rare opportunity to see an indigenous culture which still lives much the same way they’ve lived for thousands of years. We enjoyed making cocoa through the many steps from seed to hot chocolate. Our guide was excellent. He himself is Bribri. Meeting many members if the clan or tribe was amazing.

This tour was absolutely amazing. My daughter (9 years old) and I traveled for our first time to CR. We planned many tours but this BriBri Indigenous Cultural tour was the most wonderfully fulfilling experience of our lives. From the moment Ariel picked us up until he dropped us off, we learned so much about the BriBri's way of living and community.
On the drive to the BriBri territory, Ariel provided us with a wealth of historical details about the BriBri community, their language, philosophies, and their way of living. Once we arrived at the family's village we took a walk that provided even more opportunities to learn about the ecosystem and biodiversity of the land. As we walked, Ariel pointed out various plants, herbs, fruits that naturally occur in this part of Costa Rica. We were able to try many of these plants and fruits.
When we reached the farm where the family lives, we were greeted with such warm welcomes and hospitality. We then made the trek down the mountain to get the cacao. Ariel guided us the entire way and continued to share more about the different herbs and their medicinal uses as well as trying different fruits.
Ariel discussed the chocolate-making process and gave us the opportunity to be a part of it. He also taught me how to wrap leaves that are used on the roof of traditional houses.
Every step of the process Ariel and family members were there to guide and answer questions. When we finished learning about the chocolate-making process we were given a lovely lunch. I was able to have enlightening conversations with Ariel and some of the family members. My daughter spent most of the day playing with the children which was so nice to see. We also stopped by a beautiful and tranquil waterfall.
I would highly recommend this tour. It is not just about Chocolate....it is much more. You can't get this kind of experience from a book or from a big corporate tour company. The true essence of this tour is that the tour guide Ariel is BriBri so he has a true understanding and connection to the BriBri culture.
