What To Expect

Your evening tour begins at a central meeting point, where you board a vintage double-decker bus and take off through the city’s darkened streets.

Pass Westminster Abbey and the Banqueting House at Whitehall, the execution site of King Charles I in 1649. Immerse yourself in the tales of execution etiquette in the 17th century, when beheading was the favored act. Learn of skilled executioners and the spectacle that would unravel during bloody public executions at Tower Hill. Then zip past Old Bailey—site of public hangings in the 19th century—and Fleet Street to see where the barber Sweeney Todd gruesomely butchered clients and packed them into meat pies to be guzzled by local patrons.

Your next stop is London’s Smithfield Market. A historic site that began as a meat market in the 10th century, Smithfield witnessed many brutal executions over the centuries. Wander the building and surrounding lanes as you hear about historical figures that met their end here such as Wat Tyler, leader of the Peasants' Revolt, and Scottish patriot William Wallace. Visit Wallace’s memorial and learn about how grave robbing became a popular money-making scheme in the 19th century.

As night falls, arrive at London’s East End, where Jack the Ripper stalked his victims more than 125 years ago. Pass locations where the Ripper’s five victims were found by horrified Londoners. Disembark to follow the murder trail, and discuss theories and suspects that have come and gone, leaving the Jack the Ripper story a great unsolved mystery.

Your tour concludes with a visit to the Sherlock Holmes Pub near Trafalgar Square. Explore Holmes memorabilia and warm yourself with a drink and some crispy English fish and chips (own expense).

Our guide was in character for the tour. Very friendly and knowledgeable. Well worth the time and money
Magnus Neilson was great ...
Diana_B, May 2023
Magnus Neilson was great He is a serious Jack the Ripper researcher it was more about Jack and very little about Sherlock Holmes Or anything haunted
Informative
Tom_B, May 2023
Our tour guide Magnus Nielsen was exceptionally knowledgeable about Jack the Ripper. He showed us a map of the locations of each murder. Provided insights into possible suspects and rational of the why each person fit the profile or not.
Don’t miss this

Our guide explained so much in detail & things we never knew. It was very interesting learning such details and my teen granddaughters loved it.

Glad I booked through your site.Enjoyed the walking tour . Tour guide presentation was great and very informative about the area besides Jack the ripper accounts of what happened.
Not worth the money
kerry_w, Apr 2023
I think I was expecting a more entertaining presentation. Magnus is knowledgeable but it was very flat. And there was very little Sherlock Holmes content.
Thumbs up for Allan
Jacy_S, Apr 2023
Allan was super funny and we learned a lot on the trip - only let down was that the tour advertised a double decker / Jack the Ripper themed bus but when we arrived it was a regular coach. Still comfy and warm though and the driver was impressive
Ripping experience of London

Ripper of a tour!
Sandra_M, Oct 2022
Going on the double decker bus and seeing London at night was a great start to this tour. Everyone knows something about the Jack the Ripper story but the tour guide was able to weave a story from the perspective of the victims with details of who they were and what they were doing at the time which made it become "real". Also to retrace the steps of the killer from one murder to the other with information about what the areas would have been like then was fascinating. The Sherlock Holmes part was not as interesting but overall we enjoyed it very much.
Riding the night bus back in time
Connie_S, Sept 2022
The bus was great fun and an extra thrill to our trip as it’s a very old double decker, a classic. Our guide was very knowledgeable & full of information re: the Ripper, the locations and the women victims. I was surprised to see how narrow the actual streets were. There were places you could understand why no one saw anything. I was disappointed that there was little regarding Sherlock Holmes. Our guide did have some interesting facts he relayed on the bus. The ending place, a pub named the Sherlock Holmes, was lively and fun with good prices. I would go again. Though this is NOT for children as the guide shared more graphic descriptions of the violence.
True crime lover's dream tour!
Kimberly_S, Sept 2022
We had an amazing time on this tour. My brother and I are both big true crime fans, and this was such a unique opportunity to see history in person. Magnus was an amazing guide and incredibly knowledgeable. He was engaging and fun to talk to. Our driver, Lloyd, had to contend with extreme traffic conditions and road closures in preparation for the Queen's funeral. He skillfully navigated us through the streets of London, expertly handling the double decker bus. All in all, an amazing trip!
Full of facts and the unknown

Very Interesting and spooky! We learned a lot about several historical events, and were enthralled with the fascinating and dark history of London! Our guide Alan was also very amusing

David_B, Aug 2022
Lots about Jack the Ripper but next to Nothing about Sherlock Holmes and just mentioned one ghost story. Could have been way better.
Lackluster tour
Ashley_B, Aug 2022
This tour sounded amazing! We were really looking forward to taking a fun tour and see the “dark side” of London. While our tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable and we appreciated his intense passion for Jack the Ripper, this tour did not live up to the reviews or even the write up. Contrary to the tours name, there was no mention of Sherlock Holmes at all. Also, we were not dropped off at the Sherlock Holmes pub. We abruptly were let off at a bus stop and it was just “thank you, have a great evening”. We were wandering around to find the underground, and after getting a little lost, stumbled upon the Sherlock Holmes pub. The tour guide gave tons of information about Jack the Ripper, but he kept losing the interest of everyone because he went on and on with information about the subject.
