What To Expect

Experience the Tower of London’s long and stormy history. Make your own way to the Tower, once inside explore independently, take an audio tour (additional fee) or join a 1-hour guided tour led by a Yeoman Warder or ‘Beefeater.’ Yeoman-led tours depart every 30 minutes from the Tower entrance. Learn the Tower’s origin story of 1066 and how it evolved from William the Conquerer's stronghold to a royal palace, armory, royal mint, prison and gruesome execution place. 

Pass under the famous ravens that perch near Wakefield Tower and lose yourself in myth and history as you visit the White Tower and its Royal Armories collection, the Bloody Tower and Traitors’ Gate. Hear the tale of Anne Boleyn, Henry VIII's unfortunate second wife, who passed through Traitors’ Gate in 1536 and was quickly tried for adultery and executed. Walk to Tower Gate, the execution site where Boleyn and many others met their fateful ends. 

Despite its chilling reputation, the Tower of London has also been the cradle for the British Crown Jewels since the 14th century. Get a close-up look at this remarkable regalia, the ultimate symbol of the British monarchy and the centerpiece of coronations since 1661. Don’t miss the famous 105.6-carat Koh-i-Noor diamond.

After you've visited the major sites, stroll along the Wall Walk and head into the Medieval Palace to admire the beautifully reconstructed spaces. Take your time soaking up this cornerstone of English history.

  • Jewel House Update 28 April 2023 - Ahead of the Coronation, a number of items have been removed from the Jewel House in order to be prepared for the Service at Westminster Abbey on 6th May. The working Coronation Regalia, including St Edward’s Crown, the Imperial State Crown, the Sceptres, the orb, and a range of other items used during the Coronation are therefore not on display in the Jewel House this week, in preparation for the Coronation Service. Many of the Processional objects used are also no longer on display, as well as Queen Mary’s Crown, whilst they are prepared for the Coronation Service.

      Get in line early to see these, as crowds got bigger, lines grew longer.
      Just remember they close earlier than you think so don't wait until the end of the day, though 1 hour is plenty if you know what you want to see and you don't care about the crown jewels.

      Enjoyed watching the little sketches put on by small troop of actors thoroughly entertained by them. The queues weren’t too bad to get into the Crown Jewels, although I did find it quite dark on entry, so need to watch your footing. would liked to of seen the ravens more, appreciate they can’t be free but just to view them would be nice. Would also liked to of seen more of the yeoman of the guards, to be able to just chat with them, they all seemed to have no time.

      Unlike anything I’ve seen before! If you’re a history buff, this is another can’t-miss London experience. Don’t miss it! It’s a decent value for everything you get to see. The Crown Jewels alone are a must. Arrive early to avoid long lines! Book for 9 or 9:30 AM.

      Viator was completely useless in trying to help me with booking the wrong dates less than a week from making the order. They didn't even try to contact the operator or any help just kept repeating the policy. The tour operator after numerous messages and phone calls 0 response at all. Completely useless customer service avoid both in the future and just go with Klook and Get Your Guide.

      Great place. Go early! We got a 9am entry. Queued at 8:45am and there were already a lot of people ahead of us. Go directly to see the Crown Jewels. We waited approximately 30 minutes to get in vs the at least 2 hour wait by 11am. They are most definitely worth it. The moat walk through the flowers was very pretty, and a nice break from the crowds. Allow at least 3 hours to see everything.

      The Yeoman Warder tour guides were the highlight of my visit! They were so friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful! I enjoyed the tour so much because of them (after my main tour giluide I stopped and spoke to two others and they were both just a wonderful as my tour guide.

      Tour guide Chrissy was great. -1 star: Bus driver needs work. He drove 10 under the limit the whole time and we spent always more time in transit. He also could not maintain speed and tagged the break over and over making us motion sick. -1 star: The cliffs of Dover stop is a glorified bathroom break. We could not see the cliffs except for miles in the distance, no photo chances, and we were there for all of 20 minutes. I’ll be calling and looking for a partial refund.

      Other than the long wait to see the Crown Jewels, this was an amazing experience! The Beefeater tour guide brought everything to life and there was SO much to see. Recommend for anyone coming to London!

      Spent a morning here and it’s my favourite tour so far. Very interesting and worthwhile visit, Beefeater tour is also a must, ours gave so much information and was very entertaining. Plan to spend a few hours as there is so much history to visit and read about in the towers.
      I'd do it again and highly recommend it.
