What To Expect

Join up with your guide at one of the central meeting points on the Costa del Sol, and settle inside your air-conditioned coach. Then, journey along the coast to the British territory of Gibraltar, set on a promontory that juts into the Mediterranean Sea.

Best known for its towering limestone ridge known as the Rock of Gibraltar, this chunk of British territory is also famous for its duty-free shopping and British institutions, including its British-style pubs, trademark red telephone boxes and policemen dressed in British uniforms!

On arrival, take a panoramic coach tour and visit Europa Point, Gibraltar’s southernmost point. View the lighthouse that stands at the gateway between the Mediterranean and Atlantic, and absorb the spectacular views over the Strait of Gibraltar toward North Africa.

Next, hop onto a minibus for a guided tour of the iconic Rock. On your way up, stop to visit beautiful St Michael Cave, a network of natural limestone caverns hollowed into the cliff. Marvel at the stalactites and stalagmites as you learn how the cave has been used through the centuries, and behold the largest cave, a natural grotto regularly used as a venue for concerts and other events.

Then, head up the rock to meet its famous residents: the semi-wild Barbary macaque monkeys, known locally as 'Barbary apes.' Hear the story of how the British will never leave Gibraltar until the apes depart, and take snaps of these cheeky animals, taking care to watch your belongings!

Later, head back down the rock, and enjoy free time to explore independently. Perhaps enjoy a meal (own expense), stroll around the pretty lanes, or head for Main Street, the partly pedestrianized, long shopping avenue. Browse the department stores, international fashion chains and handicrafts shops, and maybe snap up duty-free favorites such as liquor, watches, fragrances and other great-value goodies.

When the time comes, return to your coach and ride back to the Costa del Sol where your tour ends at the start point.

Was told to take a taxi...
Sylvia_T, June 2023
Was told to take a taxi to Trent Hotel only to have the bus drive down our hotel’s street. Not enough time at Europa Point and St Michael’s cave. Too much free time on Main Street. There is nothing there.
A fantastic day in Gibraltar!

False advertising

If you’re looking to sit on a bus for 3 hours each direction because they make over 12 stops, this tours for you! When they say “central meeting points” they mean in some towns stops that are only 5 min away from each other but when your on a big tour bus and getting on and off the highway and going through backroads this took way too long. There should be one stop per city listed (so 5 total). It was disappointing that this tour also did not go to all of the stops listed when we actually got to Gibraltar. It completely skipped the higher point of the rock itself which is half of the point of actually going up the rock of Gibraltar. We were able to see two of the Barbary monkeys outside the caves however because we did not go to the higher point on the bus which was what was advertised, we didn’t see any more of them. Our guide was very friendly and we understand this was not their fault. However the tour is also not in just the language you book fyi - it was in Spanish and English. Gibraltar itself was very cute and the people were very nice. But there was a short amount of time to eat and shop because of the long bus ride. You only have about a half day in Gibraltar because of the 6 hours spent in the bus. We arrived to Gibraltar around 10am and left at 3pm. I think it would be best to book a private tour.

Fantastic Adventures in Gibraltar

Very fun trip. The bus ride up and back was great. Our guide was very knowledgeable and pointed out several highlights and points of interest along the way. We had adequate time to explore the sites and town of Gibraltar. The St Michael's Cave was spectacular. And a lot of monkeys too!
This excursion has potential if it was better organized.

It was a very long day for the amount of time we were allowed to spend at the sights. There were way too many pickup points on the way, which turned an hour and an half ride up there into a 3-hour drive. On a long bus ride like that, there should have been bathrooms on the bus. We were allowed very little time at both sites and we didn’t even get to go to the top of the Rock of Gibraltar which was the whole point of this trip. It would have been better to take a taxi ride on our own and spend more time at the sites. Also, this was not an English tour as stated. There were several different languages going on. When we got to the site, they had to split us up in numerous smaller vans according to the language we spoke which took time out of our sight seeing. This trip would be great if it only had 2 or 3 pickup points as opposed to the 10 or so we had, if we were allowed to spend more time at the sites we were supposed to see, and if we got to go to the top of Gibraltar Rock for the spectacular view we were promised to see.
Fantastic experience but be forewarned….it’s very disorganized and hard to walk
Kelly_p, May 2023
We loved the adventure of going in the minibus and seeing the cave, monkeys and the town. There are some things you need to know 1. If you have mobility issues this will be very challenging and close to impossible 2. Viator contracted with Julia travel which may be the Most disorganized group in the world. We were told our ticket was not confirmed despite numerous emails sent that were not responded to. The bus stop is impossible to find (fyi it is in front of Julia perfume in Marbella. The hotel named on the website as the meeting spot is under construction) we fought our way into the full bus but two other girls with tickets were turned away. We then proceeded on our way and circled on the hiway several times as the guide felt our numbers were off and not everyone was on his list…when we arrived in Marbella finally after a long 2 hours from Marbella (normally 1 hour) we had to disembark and walk across the border through the security and then Re board the bus on then other side. We were finally put on minibuses that were over full. Later we got back on our bus to return and had to exit the bus and stand in a very hostile crowd waiting for passport control. Very frustrating and anxiety producing. Our return to Marbella was a short 1 hour. There is no accomodations made for people with mobility issues or aging. Get off the bus, walk a long way, stand in the pushy shoving herd to get through the control. 3. The tour was a nightmare but the sightseeing was amazing! The town, the caves, the shopping, the history. Just know what you are in for……
Good day trip to Gibraltar but a long time spent on bus
Helen_T, May 2023
Enjoyed the visit to the caves and seeing the apes. Also nice to have some free time before boarding the bus at the end of the day. However, we were disappointed the journey took so long due to many more pick ups than advertised and apparent confusion over passenger numbers.
Gibraltar a unique experience
Stephen_A, Apr 2023
St Michael caves are incredible the shopping area impressive. All the bus pick up and drop off makes it a long day
For me, once only tour of Gibraltar
Peter_B, Apr 2023
Unfortunately for me sitting on a bus for nearly 2 hours collecting passengers for this tour then another two hours for drop offs on the way back really spoilt this tour. Don’t get me wrong, the driver Rabo and tour guide Christina were very good but four hours of collects and drop offs of primarily people from Spain doing duty free shopping was too much for me. Once we got to Gibraltar the tour was very good. The mini bus tour and our guide for St Michael’s Cave etc was very good and informative.

Everything was perfect in the tour, but one thing was that our bus did not go straight to Gibraltar. It Wars bad that we gad to stop and pick up à lot of people and stayd at so many hotel. Outerwise it Was perfect
the trip was professional from start to finish. Safe driver, excellent hostess fluent in 3 languages .

Good & Bad Together
Arash_T, Apr 2023
Overall it was a good tour; however, it came with memorable items and some not so much. Gibraltar area and its rock is surely worth the Visit. It was unique in a sense that you had to cross the UK and Spain border although you may feel never left Spain anyways. Although Gibraltar itself was not a big area but even for its one street, probably you may need more time to spend for visiting, shopping, and dining. The visit to the cave by the minibus is a must as that was the highlight of this day trip for us from Malaga. The minibus driver/guide, Jesus, (not the same guide in your bus from Malaga) was extremely funny, amusing, entertaining, and knowledgeable. He really made the relatively short visit to the top of the rock and around Gibraltar so much fun with laughter while we learned so much about the history of this area. The view from the top is outstanding. I think at least once in a lifetime, it's definitely worth the time and visit. The most annoying part of the tour was the bus ride from / to Malaga. To be fair, the tour's ad/posting transparently explained the number of stops. However, still almost 3 hours in the morning and 3 hours in the afternoon spending in the bus was not pleasant.
Tour driver left us STRANDED
Alisa_R, Apr 2023
Had high hopes for this excursion since I have used this company before. Unfortunately we had a terrible experience. Our initial tour guide was great, but the tour guide that took us to the first leg of our tour to St. Michael’s cave left us! We had to walk through the town over 45 minutes to meet up with our initial group. We called customer service several times and after being disconnected 3 times we finally got ahold of someone that was able to give us our tour guides information so we could figure out how to walk through a town that ONLY spoke Spanish and meet up with our group to get back to our resort. Definitely will never book with Viator again. If you are planning to use them- you have been warned!

Gibratar Tour
Corstina_S, Apr 2023
Our tour to Gibraltar was very informative and enjoyable. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and was quick to answer any questions we had. The only issue was the initial pickup point was very vague and confusing. One member of our party, who was staying at another hotel, could not find it and neither could his uber driver. Unfortunately, once it was sorted, he could not get to the pickup point in time and missed the bus.
Must do!!!
Alan_T, Apr 2023
Fantastic day out, the monkeys are the highlight, funny as flip, the caves are pretty cool....a must do!!!
Interesting British place with Spanish background
Connie_J, Apr 2023
I think the tour did not need to commence at 650am even though there were other people to pick up along the Costal del Sol. We got into Gibraltar around 945am and got to the shops at 10am. St Michael Caves Guided Tour was not until 230pm in the afternoon . Self guided 4 hours walking around the Main Street of Gibraltar and having some lunch was too much as most of the churches and places of interests were not opened. I also did not see any Casino in the Town centre. Perhaps I read wrong that Gibraltar has a few Casinos. St Michael Caves was well worth seeing and it was great to have a Guide that made the history of Gibraltar more intriguing.
Worth every penny

We had such a great trip. The tour guides were knowledgeable and helpful. The monkeys were awesome!!
Great end-to-end experience for first timers to Gibraltar
Julius_A, Mar 2023
I visited Malaga (Costa del Sol) for a conference. I also wanted to visit Gibraltar. I looked on the web for recommendations, and this trip showed up. I wasn't sure what to expect, but because of many positive reviews, I decided to book it. I really enjoyed the experience end-to-end, from online booking, to the tour bus picking me up from my hotel along the Costa del Sol. The tour guide was very fluent in many languages (including English). We had 3 hours to do shopping in Gibraltar before the guided tour to St Michael Caves. Gorgeous day, Sunny, Spectacular and Stunning views all the way up and down. We were luck to meet the locals (Macaque monkeys) too. Stops by the most southerly tip of Gibraltar with views to African Moroccan coast, Spanish coast and straight of Gibraltar. MEMORABLE
