What To Expect

Get on one of the open-air double-decker buses for a hop-on hop-off tour of Milan. There are three bus routes to choose from, with more than 30 combined stops between them, so you can find a stop close to where you are and where you want to go.

The route for Line A, the red line, includes the Milan Duomo (Cathedral), the 14th-century Castello Sforzesco and the renowned La Scala opera house, one of the most famous theaters in the world. The entire loop of Line A takes 90 minutes.

The route for Line B, the blue line, includes the skyscrapers of Palazzo Lombardia, the Porta Venezia (one of the historic city gates) and the Santa Maria delle Grazie church, in which Leonardo da Vinci’s “The Last Supper” fresco can be seen.

The route for Line C, the green line, includes the massive San Siro football (soccer) stadium, the Monumental Cemetery and a stop near the shopping quarter around Via Montenapoleone.

With your hop-on hop-off ticket good for either 24 or 48 hours (you choose the option), explore Milan at your own pace, getting off the bus at any stop you like to see an attraction or simply do some shopping. What’s more, the three routes mentioned are connected, so it’s no trouble at all to switch from one to the other in order to cover more ground in the whole city of Milan.

Traveller Tips

It is a very convenient and not expensive way to enter places that would be normally difficult to find without help.
Pick up points easily accessible, schedule of trips are on time.
Poor signage, very limited schedules; every hour - just in the morning or just in in the afternoon.

Bad attitude
Maja_R, May 2023
In prospect there is marked that they have free wifi, but they don’t. Not big deal, but they should not put that sign at all, and other more important thing is, when you ask them about it, they don’t say anything, just turn head on other side. That is very rude, definitely not way they should treat tourists.
Bad Experience
Judi_T, May 2023
We were so disappointed. Have been on many hop on hop off buses In Different cities . Never had an issue with overbooking . This company overbooks and doesn’t have enough busses to handle the amount of tickets sold . We waited 50 minutes for the red line and there were too many people waiting to get everyone on . We had to wait another 50 minutes and then had to stand most of the way . We were unable to plug in the audio to hear the tour . Recommend taking a different tour . This wasn’t even “ in season “
Needs improvement
Michelle_B, May 2023
It was impossible to do all the color lines in one day. The waiting time was excessive. The yellow and red lines had duplicate paths in parts of their routes. Some of the buses did not have protection from the rain on the upper decks.
Good information
Bonnie_B, May 2023
Was nice to connect to different loops. Earlier and later hours would have been great Rainy but fine under cover...maybe some towels to dry seats would be nice
Infrequent service in parts, with stops hard to find
Alison_T, May 2023
It was good to get an idea of the layout of the city - we did the complete circuit of the red and yellow routes on our first afternoon. We had planned to hop-on-hop-off for the whole our second day as we bought a 48-hour ticket but ended up not using it because of difficulty finding the stops (we didn’t find either their map or their Sightseeing Experience app very accurate or helpful to navigate to our nearest stop). We ended up getting a tram to San Siro and the metro back (both easy) as the afternoon timetable for the green line is every 90 minutes! There is also a lot of overlap between routes. We wouldn’t use City Sightseeing again without checking the frequency.
Best time in my life
Marjorie_C, May 2023
Learning history of Italy and seeing things I’ve heard about. My first time in Italy, buses were awesome, sat up on top so the view was fabulous. Being able to get off and and and explore was great.

Shemica_M, May 2023
We arrived after 6pm and was told there werent any more tours for the day. We weren't aware that there was a a cut off point to take the tour. They told us to return the following day but we’ll be in Florence the next day.
Recommend Hop On, Hop Off

Karen_H, May 2023

Missing bus
Claire_B, May 2023
The bus did not appear on the blue route. It listed its arrival time in 6 mins, no bus arrived and the next scheduled bus was 45 mins. We had a 45min walk to the get onto a different route. Once on the red and yellow line, the service was fine.

Could use Logistical Improvements

While I will say it was cool to see all the sites from this bus and be able to hop on and off at different locations, here are the things that put a damper on our experience: we could not find the pick up locations easily. You don’t get a map with pick up times until you get on the first bus, so if you don’t know exactly where the first stop is, you don’t have much information. We walked for an hour before finding the stop at the Milan Central Train Station because we walked all around the huge building asking questions before finding that there was a minimally visible sign across the street where the bus stop was. Then we waited another 30 mins before the bus came. That being said, once we had a map with bus stops and times, we could better plan! Another downfall was that the informational recordings in the bus didn’t seem to match up with the sites, and we had often missed a site before the description was played. We have taken these buses on other trips and have had great experiences, but each time we had a hard time finding the first pick-up location.

Hi, the maps of all our Hop-on Hop-off routes in Italy are available for download on our official website together with the timetables with no obligation to purchase a ticket. They are also available on our social media, our official free app and physically at our visitor centres.
Mostly good but needs some attention
Catherine_F, Apr 2023
We had a very mixed result. We did the Blue line which had good commentary and was a quite interesting view of the more modern parts of the city. We then hopped on the Yellow line which started off well and showed a very different part of the city. About half way through the trip, we stopped to take on people from another line and the commentary stopped, nothing, not even music so we didn’t know what we were seeing or why. All in all, It was quite good, but the part with no commentary was a waste.

Great way to see the city
Mary_S, Apr 2023
It is recommended to take the bus on the first day of your stay so you can see the city and take note of places you would like to visit. Buy the multi day ticket so the bus can take you there later. It is very inexpensive.

Hi, thank you for sharing your experience with us. We are happy that thanks to our service you were able to visit Milan comfortably!

the narration sometimes does not coincide with the place…. staff were not so pleasant if you don’t speak italian.. once you get the booking.. there should be statements where the stops are

Hello, the training of our staff is our priority, we are sorry for you experience. Our maps are available on our official website upon purchase.
a day in milan
Preashini_P, Mar 2023
The duomo is the best part of the tour. the green line runs 3 times a day so waste a whole day if you get of bus to see anything. not very organised. - we did yellow line waiting for time to get to green line then alot of confusion. . . so only got taken to green line after lots of ppl complained
Response from Host, Mar 2023

Was a Nice Way to See Milan

It was nice to see the city in a short time period. It was a great way to get around Milan. I would recommend it to everyone visiting the city.

A great way to get around and see all the sights. Buses ran on time and easy to find stops. Use the head phones as it gives you a great overview of the history and information on sights

Tim_D, Feb 2023
There were multiple bus lines, with limited number of pick ups. The audio was also difficult to figure out what the narrator was describing. Did not get much out of it. Use of the Metro is much easier to use and navigate and much cheaper overall.
Response from Host, Mar 2023
Hello, we are sorry to hear that our service did not meet your expectations. Your comment will help us improve our offer.
A good idea, but implemented poorly. Needs a refresh, more customer service, and better organisation.
Chris_B, Feb 2023
Finally seeing the bus arrive around the corner 45 minutes late and knowing that we could continue the tour that we had paid for and not be stranded in the middle of no where. The guide provided for Milan was primarily classical music with minimal information and it was practically impossible to cover all 4 routes in a 24 hour period.
Response from Host, Feb 2023
Hi, there are no delays on the Milan lines. It depends on which line of our 4 available in the city you have chosen, but 45 minutes is a regular frequency time for our winter timetables, we always advise our customers to download our timetables available on the official website and our free official app for check the real-time status of the buses to avoid waiting on the bus.
