What To Expect

Discover the beautiful river landscapes and fascinating history of Montreal during this cruise along the St. Lawrence River. Anyone with a love for geography, historic explorers or that simply enjoys great views will relish this scenic boat ride along the shores of French Canada’s biggest city.

Start your trip from the city’s Alexandra Pier in either the morning or afternoon. Then cast off for your river ride, journeying 22 miles (35 kilometers) of the river near Montreal. During your cruise you’ll pass famous city sights including the islands of Boucherville, Jacques-Cartier Bridge and the city’s picturesque shoreline.

Make sure to also take advantage of all that your ship, the AML Cavalier Maxim, has to offer during your voyage. Enjoy some sunbathing on the ship’s al fresco terraces, or step inside if you need to warm up in the glass-enclosed dining area. An array of food and drinks, including muffins, salads, cookies, sandwiches, juice, and cocktails, is available for purchase at the on-board café.

At the end of your ride, return back to Alexandra Pier, having gained a new perspective on the city of Montreal and its rich history.

Didn’t know that Montreal had several islands many of which were created because of the building of the metro system. All of the dirt had to go somewhere.

Go for the boat, ignore the guide

The river is lovely and the trip is uneventful. Pleasant servers provide you with food and drink. The tour guid attempts to switch back and forth between English and French probably doing neither of them justice. His observations and tips were shallow and not enlightening. Do not take this cruise to learn about the history of the river, it doesn't come through. But if you want a lovely view of the river and time on a boat, give this a try.

This was an enjoyable afternoon trip and interesting to view Montreal from the boat. As other people have noted one view is really just the port - very long - but the other side is beautiful. We were lucky with the weather as it was sunny and low 60s. The staff were very friendly and we had drinks and snacks served relatively quickly. While we enjoyed hearing the commentary it would also have been nice just to have some quiet time to enjoy the views.

The dock is very long and runs along the shoreline for quite a ways. The remnants of the worlds fair on the island were interesting to see. We only passed under one bridge.

Large sitting area. Menu items looked very delicious and reasonable however we did not try anything. We were on the cruise to see the sites and hear the commentary. It was very hard to understand the cruise director and there was no commentary coming back.
