We were very pleased with our tour. Our driver, Nikola, i picked us up on time and drove us to Pompeii, where we met Josephine our tour guide. Josephine took us through the museum and then we went to the amphitheater to see where the gladiators did battle. It was all very informative and interesting and very visual. Nikola stopped off at an authentic pizzeria on our way back to Naples and we had our lunch. All in all it was a very good day.

Great value if you have a tight timeframe

This was good value for the money and Paulo our guide added a lot to the experience with his narrative and explanation. He made minor adjustments to our overall experience to accommodate one in our party with mobility issues. Couple of things to note when selection this tour. Your driver that picks you up is not your guide and it was a little disconcerting at first when we started because he spoke no English and we had no idea how the day was going to go. Relax, and enjoy the ride because he will deliver you to the site entrance where your licensed guide (15+years experience) will take over. Note the advertised time for the tour and set your expectations for what you want to see. Pompeii is huge so this 2.5 hour tour is only the most notable highlights, so if your idea is to see absolutely everything and your are not limited by a return time then you probably might want to try another one. That’s not a negative for us because it was exactly what we wanted for our day and didn’t wear us out.

Highly recommended private tour of Pompeii

Visited Pompeii for the second time. First time three years ago in a larger group. This time in a private tour (only the guide and myself). In my view, this access to the tour guide, the detail that a private tour allows, and being able to ask all the questions I had, made an incredible difference. Also, the tour guide grew up in the area, knew Pompeii from his very early childhood years. He could even point at some fossiles in one single stone brick at one of the many Roman houses. I call that “eye for detail”. I also loved the enthusiasm and excitement of the tour guide about the place and what it represents. Should I return to Naples a third time, I will be sure to take this tour again.
