What To Expect

Your Oahu shark dive begins at Haleiwa boat harbor on the island’s famous North Shore, where you motor out to the open ocean offshore. While cruising out to the shark diving area, there’s a chance you could see dolphins, sea turtles, surfers or even humpback whales in winter, and the view looking back at Oahu’s shoreline is worth the trip in itself.

Since safety is one of the top priorities for the Oahu shark diving crew, receive a briefing on safe practices and how to act in the cage. Then, when it’s time to finally go looking for sharks, strap on your masks, step in the cage, and your shark watching adventure begins when you’re lowered in the water.

Out here in the open ocean away from the runoff and waves, visibility can often extend to as much as 200 feet (60m). When you first catch sight of a graceful shark swimming slowly but purposefully towards you, there’s a sudden and potent rush of adrenaline you simply can’t contain. Before you can even be scared, however, the sharks have swum to within inches of the cage and are circling in front of your face.

In the waters around Oahu, the most commonly sighted sharks you might find are Galapagos, Hammerhead, and Sandbar sharks, which range from 5-15 feet (1.5-4.5m) dependent upon their age. For travelers wanting to dive as a group, the cage can comfortably hold two adult divers and up to eight at a time—though it depends on current weather conditions and the amount of movement in the water.

And, if you simply don’t want to dive in the cage but are hoping to see some sharks, there’s still plenty of thrilling action you can experience while viewing from the deck of the boat.

Great tour. We had so much fun and saw a lot of sharks. We were split into two groups and each had 20min in the cage. The sharks we saw were Galapagos sharks and they were friendly and curious. The guides were very knowledgable and great to talk to. The ride was a bit rocky because of the waves so I would recommend taking some seasickness pills if you have a sensitive stomach. But it is definitely worth it.

Honestly perfect experience. The crew was wonderful, friendly, and knowledgeable about all things sharks and Hawaii. The shark see guarantee is no joke, they’re are tons of sharks and you feel like you’re in the cage for a great amount of time. It doesn’t feel rushed or as though you need to get out quick. 10/10 stars would do again and again. Some of the best pictures we have of our vacation are from this experience!

Fun trip - went on first trip of the day. It was true the sharks show up - I counted 8 Galapagos sharks circling us. Safe and fun excursion and great crew. Highly recommend. We will be doing this again when we return to Oahu on our annual Christmas trip!

Awesome trip! On the way out we saw hump back whales that actually leapt out of the water. Whilst waiting for others in the cage we could see loads of sharks circling the boat and the crew were very interactive, knowledgeable and friendly.

We booked with Shane and he was so great! This was a bucket list excursion for us and they made it magical! We felt super safe and got to see over a dozen 6-12 ft. Galapagos sharks! I was shocked at how many surrounded us.

This was a once and a lifetime experience. It was incredible to see these majestic animals so closely. I felt safe the entire time. We saw about 20 Galapagos Sharks. Highly recommend this experience, but not for people who get seasick. We also saw dolphins on the way back, many of them! They followed along the front of the boat and there was a huge pod of them in the distance too. We also saw some humpback whales. Absolutely amazing!

It was a fun experience. We got to see roughly 13 sharks swim a few feet away. We were in a cage with 6 others for 15 minutes. The only downside to our trip that day was the water was a little choppy causing us to be thrown against the cage multiple times. While our crew was efficient and friendly I didn't feel they were very engaging and lacked energy which is why I gave it 4 stars.
Must try this experience if you're by the North Shore
