Overview

During your Oahu vacation, enjoy a comprehensive 2-hour surfing lesson near Waikiki with a private instructor. Your professional surfing instructor provides instruction and equipment fittings in the comfort of the deluxe Mercedes van. When ready, hit the beach for a short lesson on land followed by further instruction in the water. Learn to paddle out and stand up on the board, or take your surfing skills to the next level if you know the basics. Photos and video are available for purchase, and hotel pickup and drop-off is included.

Pickup details

We offer free pickup from Waikiki from our four standard pickup locations 10-45 minutes prior to your lesson time: (1) Ilikai Hotel (2) Ambassador Hotel (3) Don Ho Lane Van Depot (4) Hyatt Regency For customers staying at the Ala Moana Hotel, Hale Koa Hotel, Kahala Hotel and Resort, The Ritz Carlton or The Trump Hotel, we may be able to arrange a special pickup closer to the hotel with a notification call or email at least 24 hours in advance. If either the customer or accompanying guest has a handicap or injury and needs to arrange a special pickup, please call or email us with 24 hours notice and we are more than happy to come directly to your hotel.

  • Please come prepared for the lesson by wearing your bathing suit, bringing a towel, and making sure to apply sunscreen ahead of time

  • All of our written materials are also available in Spanish, Japanese, Korean and Chinese. We will do our best to accommodate, but cannot guarantee, Japanese, Korean, Spanish or Chinese speaking-instructors without enough advance notice.
  • Complimentary transportation is available from select locations in Waikiki. Exact pick-up location and time will be emailed to you by the supplier. If you do not receive these details 24 hours prior to your lesson, please contact Ohana Surf Project.

Cancellation Policy

You can cancel up to 24 hours in advance of the experience for a full refund.

  • For a full refund, you must cancel at least 24 hours before the experience’s start time.
  • If you cancel less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time, the amount you paid will not be refunded.
  • Any changes made less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time will not be accepted.
  • Cut-off times are based on the experience’s local time.

It was my first time surfing and the whole team made it a great experience. Especially Mark my coach he was awesome and had me up and riding waves in just a few attempts. All in all I couldn’t be more happy with choosing OSP to take me out on this adventure!

Kay was a really good instructor, very relaxed which made me relaxed. The hardest part was actually paddling out. It’s so tiring, but once you stand up, it’s all worth it!

This was a great experience! I highly recommend if it’s your first time surfing. It’s one on one and they make sure you get up and get the best experience. They also take lots of pics and video you can purchase afterwards!

Cole was an amazing instructor! I felt safe the whole time, and I had so much fun. I would highly recommend. The whole team was great. The pictures were awesome. Even got to see a sea turtle while surfing.

Overall awesome experience! I lifeguard at a pool in north coastal Oregon and have wanted to try out surfing for years. My family and I finally took a cruise to Hawaii (my 50th state) so I scheduled a surfing lesson right away. The instructors at Obama Surf Project were awesome. I was able to work closely 1-on-1 with a very experienced instructor and was getting tips from other instructors out in the water. Everyone was rooting you on and were very happy when you made any improvement.

If I could have everyone surf I would!!!!! I instantly was in great hands when they came to pick us up and once we were paired up with our instructor I felt so comfortable and ready to learn! Nick literally pushed me knowing my limits and was very assertive that I had a great time! He was able to help me fix and give me tips on anything I was doing wrong to me make me better! Nick was such a great instructor and I can’t wait to come back to Hawaii and do it alllll over again!

This class was awesome! I loved it. Our instructors, Chelsea and Matthew, were very professional and courteous. They made the class easy and very enjoyable, all while helping us progress and looking out for our safety. I probably will do this tour again. They also get very cool footage when you can the waves, this was a relieve since I was not going to loose my GoPro. I just would like that the tour price included the videos and photos instead of paying for it separately. It’s an amazing tour, you’ll love it.

Fantastic Day of Surfing Lessons

Absolutely loved my day of surfing lessons. I’m exhausted from the paddling, but it was so much fun. All of the teachers were super friendly and helpful - coaching their private and cheering on other students along the way. The surfing spot was wonderful. I felt safe the whole time, but still got the excitement of surfing out in the ocean. I’ll be back for additional lessons on future trips.

Amazingly Fun Experience

This lesson for our kids (12 and 6) was a total success!!! They have had few ocean adventures. The Ohana Surf group is exceptionally well organized and managed. The instructors are top notch, and we were so pleased with the precautions they took to keep our youngest one safe. The kids had a GREAT time. We could not have asked for a better first surfing experience.
