Food tour in Abastos

Definitely with it. The Abastos market is overwhelming and having a local guide to know where to go is essential. I highly recommend this tour.

If you are looking to get to know a real mercado this tour is for you! It's by far not comercialized and is a gem! The food is fantastic and there is tons of things to purchase from food, alcohol aguas and more! Be prepared to walk a lot. Daniel was the best in explaining everything and made sure we received the best experience. He has an amazing relationship with the vendors so you are going to be immersed in an amazing tour of the mercado. 10/10

The tour was great. We went to the local market in Oaxaca, where alone I would’ve felt very intimidated. Our guide Daniel made the experience fun and informative, and he was very friendly and enthusiastic about sharing his knowledge of the market. It was a great insight into local culture. Bonus - we ate so much food, we were totally stuffed!

Amazing food tour. Culturally immersive also as the Abastos market is the authentic Oaxaca! Daniel is bar none the best food tour guide I’ve ever had and I’ve been on A Lot of food tours. Run, don’t walk, to immerse yourself in the food and culture of this experience.

I highly recommend this tour - our guide was knowledgeable, patient (we had two young kids with us) and really knew the ins and outs of the market. I would not have had near the experience had we tried to approach this enormous market on our own. He knew exactly where the best vendors were and explained how to order and cook our own food. 10/10 experience!

Our tour with Daniel was really great. We loved that it was at the mercando Abastos, which gave us a real insight in the daily life of the Oaxaqueños. The tour is very complete, very well researched. You taste so many different things and have great explanations. We could also very much feel the intent of supporting the locals and their wonderful products. Great experience!

I wish I could give more than 5 stars! This tour was the highlight of my trip in Oaxaca. I’m a chef and it was really important to me that I spent time tasting a variety of the ingredients and cuisine of Oaxaca and I’m so grateful I took this tour because I learned SO much! Daniel was incredibly knowledgeable and is very passionate about teaching. I loved how interactive the day was. We didn’t just walk past the vendors and taste pre-made things. We had a small group which was great. We talked to the people, watched them prepare the dishes and even did some cooking ourselves! Daniel is respected at the market by the local vendors which makes it really neat to try a little bit of everything and feel warmly welcomed into the community. I felt comfortable asking questions to him and the people selling their products. When I saw something I didn’t know or never tried, Daniel would pick up a couple for us to taste. He made recommendations also on where to dine throughout the rest of my trip. I truly cannot say enough good things about this experience and I highly, highly recommend!!! Thank you so much Daniel and Etnofood. The tour was so great I even decided to book the chocolate class with Etnofood for the following day. As a chef- thank you for providing such an informative and memorable experience.

Such a privilege to see the market on a small group with our exceptional guide Daniel . It was very authentic and an absolute feast for the belly ….. and the eyes. Refreshingly few gringos in sight. Allow for four hours at a steady pace. The market is enormous but Daniel guided us to the best zones. Would definitely recommend this tour for a genuine insight into Oaxaca’s best market. Bring your best walking shoes and prepare to sample many delicious offerings.
