What To Expect

Trying some gourmet French food is an essential part of any stay in Paris. This small-group walking tour introduces you to the art of French cuisine from a local perspective. Meet your culinary guide in the Latin Quarter for your tour. Set off on a leisurely 3-hour walking tour of the historic streets, stopping along the way to see local markets, bakeries and specialty food shops. The exact itinerary will vary based on your small group’s preference and the season, but you can expect to sample staples of the French diet such as handcrafted cheeses, baguettes and other delicacies. And of course, no food tour of Paris would be complete without a glass of fantastic French wine. Your guide will share insight into how these delicious products are made, provide info about the French gastronomy tradition, and share stories and historical facts that have made the neighborhood so iconic. Feel free to ask as many questions as you like, and even make purchases apart from the tastings, to take a taste of Paris home with you.

Excellent tour
Stephen_V, Mar 2023
My wife and I took this tour with Tibu (apologizes for spelling?). He was fantastic! It was an excellent mix of history, culture and cuisine. We really enjoyed our time, had all of our questions answered and the tasting at the end was excellent. Highly recommend!

Wonderful foodie and history walking tour of Latin Quarter in Paris!
Kathryn_M, Feb 2023
This tour was wonderful! It was just as advertised. We started at an open market, visited and learned about cheese shops, bakeries, jams, honey, teas and wines. We also learned a lot about Paris and about the Latin Quarter where we were staying. Akito was a lovely tour guide and she put together a beautiful presentation of the food that we had purchased along the way to enjoy while sipping some excellent wine! I would highly recommend this tour!

Visit the Latin District and Enjoy every minute of your tour!
Judith_H, Oct 2022
My husband and I enjoyed the gastronomy tour of the Latin District with Barbara. Despite 10 trips to France, this was our first visit to the 5th Arrondissement. We had a great time! We learned a great deal about the history. We walked to the main part of town, to the education centers, to the weekly market, the frommage shop, the wine store, the delicious croissant/patisserie shop and happily sampled foods as we walked. Our gathering for tasting the foods we purchased was a delight. I highly recommend this tour and Barbara is fabulous!

Our guide was not only extremely knowledgeable about the district and the food that we were discussing but she was humorous and had a vast knowledge of sustainable and conscientious culinary habits, which really made the visit that much more educational. She also was a restaurant critic so she was able to discuss sourcing and preparation techniques of the French food.
Great tour of the Latin Quarter

A very good tour of the Latin Quarter with history, bread, cheese, and wine. Our guide was interesting and knowledgeable. We really enjoyed it!!
Great way to start your trip

GREAT tour guide. Enjoys the food and the history lesson. It’s a great way to start your trip in Paris
Good cheese and wonderful conversation
Jessica_R, Nov 2021
David was incredibly patient and kind. He showed us all the shops where we could find typical French food, but we especially enjoyed his history discussions. He was easy to talk to and we enjoyed his perspectives very much. He went above and beyond by walking us most of the way back to the hotel because he wanted to make sure we didn’t get lost. What a kind soul.

Skip this, totally false advertising and terrible customer service

FYi- I am not someone who complains online like this, but I feel it necessary to post this someone who is planning a trip and thinks this sounds like a real food tour. My family enjoys going on food tours in new cities, to walk around and learn about the culture and enjoy some food of another culture. We have done this in many places, and at this price point, over $100 per person, we are used to experiencing a well thought out and interesting sampling of a menu, and at least enough food to feel like we've actually eaten something. If you are interested in a "Paris Food Tour: French Gastronomy and History" -skip this completely, and look at other companies like Eating Europe. We recently did this tour, expecting what was advertised, fois gras, french specialities, an education about french cuisine and history. This was not delivered, at all. The absolute bare minimum: one bite of chocolate per person, 1 croissant, 1 snail, and 3 bites of cheese. And a glass of table wine. After the tour, I wrote to Viator to express my dissatisfaction in the tour, and said how surprised I was by both the menu and the teeny portion- and no real education about these foods- after spending over $500 for my family. We had all read the description of the tour beforehand and were so excited to learn about cooking and french cuisine, etc. Their response was not kind at all, no acknowledgement that their advertising a French Gastronomy tour was the least bit misleading, and a refusal to make any sort of adjustments. They also argued with me when I pointed out that the cheese platter we were given that was cut for 2 people was was more than enough for 5 people to share. What I asked for was a refund of a small percentage of what we paid. I got a very dismissive email back. Overall a very unpleasant experience, and very shocking customer service. (Though the tour guide was a very nice man.) There are many companies that offer real food tours, I highly recommend you skip this one!!
Nice guy - but too expensive for the amount of food

I did not leave this tour being wow-ed. Had some great bites along the way, but ultimately I felt like I could have accomplished the same thing by myself.
Perfect

We had a small tour with Camilla on a Sunday morning. The perfect way to see Paris. We felt like we had it all to ourselves. She was very sweet and we had so many wonderful treats packed with hustory
Pleasant and informative

Tour guide Virginia was excellent. provided interesting information about Parisian culture and food. Ended the tour with a vine tasting session where we also learned about how French wines are rated and how much the environment (terrain, geology, topography, climate ....) influences the French wine conosurs to identify wines by the region where the grapes come from.

We met our tour guide, Josie, in a shopping center in front of a cheese shop. She is American who has lived in France for years, so she was able to give us some interesting insights comparing life in Paris with life in the US. As we walked to different shops, she purchased items for us to eat at the end of the tour, and she pointed out interesting locations along the way. We began our tour with a bakery, where we all got to choose a breakfast pastry. She described each one and the process of baking them. After that, we walked to a street market, where she described the French culture of shopping for food. We went into a meat shop and a cheese shop, and she pointed out how to look for the best restaurants based on their signs everything prepared in-house, organic only, prestigious awards, etc. We finished the tour at a wine shop. She prepared the fruit, bread, cheese, and foie gras for us as he let us sample some wines. We ate while she told us more about French food culture. She made recommendations for several shops and restaurants, and she made sure everyone knew how to get transportation to their next locations. This tour wasn't exactly what I was expecting, but it was such a fun experience, and I loved learning so much about food in France. The food Josie chose and prepared was delicious, and she was very knowledgeable and friendly.
Learned a lot but little food/wine
Diane W, July 2018
My friend took this tour last year and raved about the experience; lots of food tastings and wine samplings. Unfortunately, we did not have the same experience. We were nervous because our tour guide was a bit late to arrive but once she showed up, the tour of 7 people began right away. She was extremely knowledgeable about the area, it’s history and the people. Our first stop was at a chocolatier. The tour guide appeared to be a bit lost looking for it but found it pretty quickly. We each got to select our preferred truffle; 1 piece each. Then we continued with the tour learning about the area and it’s history. We stopped at a patisserie and were each able to select a macaron. Not much information was shared about this specialty. The tour continued uphill walking around Montmartre and learning more about the architecture and history. We finally stopped for cheese and wine. After all the walking and minimal food tastings, we were served 2 cheese platters and 1 bottle of Rose wine to share amongst the 7 of us. Very disappointing. Our final stop was at a local ice cream shop where we were able to select an ice cream of our choice. And that was it. One chocolate ($2), one macaroon ($2), one bottle of wine and two cheese platters split between 7 people ($10/pp), and an ice cream ($4). This food/wine walking tour cost $100/pp. No where near worth the price we paid. I would have been happy to pay $40 if it was a simple walking tour but this was advertised as a food/wine walking tour that provided minimal amounts of food/wine. Very disappointing!!
Amazing Food Tour
Mandy_G, July 2018
Our guide David was amazing. He introduced us to so much great food in Paris and how to tell the difference between true Parisian bakers and butchers vs transports. I would do this tour again in a heartbeat. If you can request David please do so. You won't be disappointed.

The information about the history of the food was simply amazing. Guide was nothing short of a walking food encyclopedia that loves both interacting with people and her job Best money we ever spent on any trip

It was a nice experience but I do not think the activity description accurately describes it. We spent most of the time in one square which had a market in it, but we really did not see the neighborhood.

This was an absolutely wonderful tour. The guide was extremely knowledgable and totally charming. The day was bitterly cold but she continued to take us from place to place until we ended up in a wine shop eating cheese and sausage while drinking and learning more about wine and wine pairing. I would highly recommend this tour.

Excellent tour. Zach is very knowledgeable and was a great guide. Unfortunately, the weather decided to not cooperate, and we ended up I a snow storm. Despite that inconvenience, it was a lot of fun. Great food samples and wines.

Our guide was a very friendly person. The problem was we sampled gourmet bagette, gourmet slice of pie, Gourmet absinthe, a Gourmet platter of 6 cheeses and a glass of red wine. No escargots or eclairs or pates or any cured meat samples.A pretty expensive deal for 2 persons.Would have been cheaper to have gone to a good restaurant and ordered real french food.
