If you’re departing from Perth, your Rottnest Island day trip starts with the ferry ride along the Swan River, which takes you past luxurious homes and yacht clubs on the water. When you arrive in Fremantle, pick up more passengers; if you select the Fremantle option when booking, you’ll board the ferry here. Then speed across the Indian Ocean to reach the island. As you disembark from the ferry, pick up your included bike rental from the friendly crew.

Known to locals as Rotto, the island is beloved for its tranquil, relaxing environment, due largely to its no-cars-allowed policy. Explore the island independently; You might like to settle on one of the 20 bays and 63 secluded beaches or perhaps visit the iconic Wadjemup or Bathurst Lighthouses. Choose to visit attractions such as Lomas Cottage, Rottenest Island Museum or Pilot Boathouse. You might like to ride to the West End where you can stroll along the boardwalk admiring coastal views and lookout for seals at Cathedral Rocks and keep your eyes peeled for humback whales - late September - November. When you stop for breaks, make sure to keep your eyes open for quokkas, the local marsupials who call the island home.

Your trip ends with the return ferry ride to Fremantle or Perth.

An amazing experience and a highlight of my trip to WA! Rottnest was beautiful, I felt as if I was in a movie with the white sand beaches, clear waters and super cute Quokkas. The staff and tour guides were all wonderful. Thank you to everyone who contributed to my unforgettable holiday, I will definitely be back.

What a beautiful place. We travelled in July, weather was lovely but too cool for us to swim. I would like to go there in swimming weather the water is like glass. I searched the whole island for Quokkas, only to find them all hanging around the cafes in the village in the end. I think a whole day is needed to relax and enjoy the island.

We were lucky the rain stopped when we reached Rottnest, helmets were wet but we came prepared! There was a hiccup that made us wait 15mins for the next ferry for our child bike which wasn’t as good quality as the adults. Nonetheless we enjoyed our time around the island! Remember to time and head back to the jetty early for your ferry back as you may get lost cycling around!

Everything about the island is amazing. Can't fault it! The actual ferry service was smooth and efficient as well. There was only one thing which is a bit frustrating. We bought a 9.30am ticket. Only to be told the ferry leaves at 10am and furthermore we have to go pick up others. We ended up leaving for the island (after picking up the others at a different stop) at about 10.20am .. nearly a whole hour lost.

Was a great day! Definitely hire a bike if you can! Great commentary on the way over. I felt it was enough time over there to get around and see the beautiful beaches!

The island itself is beautiful, the volunteer guides along the way were really informative and the food in The Settlement was lovely. All combining to make a wonderfully memorable day.

The entire tour from the booking to the sailing part was very easy and hassle free. My husband and I had a fantastic time touring the island on a bike. The uphill part of the road though was a bit of challenge. But we made it in time for the ferry back to Perth. Hoping to be back to finish the tour of the entire island.

Turned up to be told the 9.30m boat was full and no bikes - even though I paid. The operator was pretty rude about it all but did squeeze us on the next available boat across to Rottnest. Will be phoning for a refund on the bikes. Terrible system - never again.

Exchanging for the ferry tickets was a breeze, arrived at Rottnest Island and was able to quickly collect our bicycles from the ferry. We enjoyed our time there and will come back again in the future via booking with Viator.

Great location. Perfect weather, no problems with ferry ride or bikes. Everyone had a good day, even managed a selfie or two with the quokkas.

Great day out. Upgrade to an e-bike if you ride the whole circuit.

The island is beautiful, the roads are quiet, and there are hills to ride up on your rental bike. The 22 km circuit is doable on the standard red 3-speed rental bike but would be far easier on an e-bike!

We got the bike and snorkel included, although when we checked in at the ferry terminal, they didn’t say anything about the bikes. When I asked about it, they said Viator haven’t included in my booking and we had to wait around for 20 minutes while they tried to find some bikes on another boat arriving later. When we got there, there was no explanation of where to get the snorkel gear, the visitor centre sent us to another place who pointed us back to the jetty to pick it up from the Rottnest express team. So even though we arrived at rottnest at 10:35, we didn’t really get going until 11:45. If I could do it again, I would hire the bike and snorkel gear from the other shop on the island.

The island is amazing! The staff were so friendly and accommodating! (Even when our bicycles were locked together lol) Not much time left after lunch to explore the island, would definitely do an overnight stay to not feel rushed.

Took the ferry from Perth, down the Swan River, to Fremantle then onto Rottnest Island. Excellent day, weather was perfect, easy cycle around the island then lunch and a few drinks. The quokkas were out and happy that take some selfies. The staff on the ferry were also excellent and a big shoutout to Damien the tour guide, he is very knowledgeable and answered many of our questions. All in all a great day out.

We had an exceptional day – truly memorable. We cycled the entire island, photographed ourselves with a few adorable quokkas finished off the day with a beer, wine and chips at the pub. Definitely great value and fun.
