A beautiful river that rises at Tenorio Volcano at Guanacaste mountain range, it’s pure and white water makes it the best river on Guanacaste area for rafting. You can combine almost 20 kilometers of rapids with magnificent landscapes surrounded by tropical forest.

What To Expect

Meet your guide at your centrally located hotel in Tamarindo and drive for about two hours until you reach the rugged back roads of the Guanacaste countryside. Transfer to a 4x4 and ride the rest of the way to your starting point at a bridge over the Tenorio River.

Upon arrival, complete a thorough safety briefing and don a helmet and life jacket. Grab a paddle and begin your rafting trip, maneuvering over 22 rapids along 12.4 miles (20 kilometers) of water. Pause to enjoy a fresh fruit snack and view the local wildlife, such as iguanas, tropical birds, and howler monkeys.

Finish your journey with a final drop down the 12-foot Cascabel Falls, before heading back to the 4x4. Change into dry clothes and enjoy lunch before heading back to your hotel in Tamarindo in time to catch the sunset.

Wow!!!! This experience was amazing. The guides were so much fun. They were also very kind and understanding. We had one person in our group who was terrified. They put us with Sam who has 25 years of experience. He made sure she was taken care of. The other part of our group was with Luis. He was absolutely hilarious. We had a great time!!! I highly recommend this adventure!!!

We had the owner Chuy and I can’t be more thrilled about the experience we had today! Jose the driver picked us up early in the morning and pulled over to show us monkeys and crocodiles, also buying us fruit from a fruit stand during route! Jose is the best driver!!!! We took this excursion from the JW Marriott Guanacaste. Then Chuy made us laugh the whole time! We saw Macaws and Toucans, Kingfisher, snakes, fish, a ton of butterfly’s, heron, and felt like we really got the Costa Rica experience. They feed you a delicious lunch which you can opt in to buy a beer while resting after your two hour rafting trip. If you are smart you’ll book this trip, the river was intimidating at a few spots but beyond that was accessible to most!

We took our three college aged children on this adventure and had an amazing time. Everyone enjoyed it, it was exciting but not over the top. The guides were great, knowledgeable and very friendly. There can only be 4 people and 1 guide in each raft, so we were split up, which actually worked out good. They kept our 2 rafts close to each other, so we always had them in sight. The kids loved it, we loved it. Be prepared for some travel to get there and back from Tamarindo, but everyone agreed the ride was worth it.

Overall, it was a great experience! I do think that the safety concerns should be reviewed more thoroughly by the staff. It would also be nice to have a guided tour as we drive along the coast.

We went in December and had a wonderful time. The guides were all so much fun, and definitely made you feel very safe throughout the entire experience! This was one of our favorite excursions and we would love to do it again, especially during the rainy season!

We had the most incredible time white-water rafting with Rodrigo. He made the trip so much fun and it was our favorite activity of our whole vacation. Rodrigo took the time to identify the nature, too. He was funny, friendly, and his English was excellent. Definitely worth the money! Only drawback is the nauseating ride back to camp.

The actual white water rafting was fantastic. Our instructor made it both safe and fun. The organization from Viator was poor. They don’t tell you that rafting is two hours and three buses away from Tamarindo. They even said we needed to take our passports when we didn’t.

Recommend for all levels of river rafting.

I never felt in danger as our guide Daniel was very experienced. He worked hard to set up the self-bailer raft to keep us upright. Getting pictures of the waterfalls was awesome. We are getting WOW's from all our friends. Our family are all rafters. Experience with rafting the famous Oregon's Lower Rogue River through trip which are 3's and 4's but the Tenorio falls are unique and made for a fantastic memory.

This trip was a load of fun! Took a while to get there and we went over some bumpy dirt roads but was worth the drive. Daniel the terminator was our guide and made the whole experience even more fun! The waterfall natural pool was unexpected and beautiful. I would highly recommend.

I was scared to death to go white water rafting, but I am so glad that I did. It was one of the best tours I have ever taken. Our guide, The Terminator, was so much fun and so good at what he does! We had an absolute blast. The lunch and snacks provided were really good too! Highly recommended!!!!
