What To Expect

Get an early start on the day with pickup at your hotel in Playa del Carmen, then travel to the ancient city of Chichen Itza, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A light breakfast of fruit, cookies, and juice will be served during the trip. Upon arrival in the city, begin a guided tour of the Chichen Itza’s most important sites, from the pyramid of Kulkulkan to ball courts, an astronomical observatory, and “La Iglesia,” an ornate temple.

When the tour of Chichen Itza concludes, continue to Ik Kil cenote, a sinkhole in the limestone rock of the Yucatan Peninsula. Descend a staircase past streaming vines, then swim in the fresh water at the bottom of the cavern. Refuel for an afternoon of exploring with lunch at a restaurant by the cenote.

The final stop of the day is at the Coba ruins, once a sprawling city of 50,000 inhabitants covering 31 square miles (80 square kilometers). You’ll see the remnants of sac bé, the white roads that linked buildings and cities at the height of the Maya world, then head to Nohoch Mul pyramid, one of the few Maya pyramids than can still be climbed. After your time at Coba, begin the return trip to Playa del Carmen, where this tour concludes with drop-off at your hotel.

Traveller Tips

It is a long drive time to the places, but just sit back and relax.
I cannot recommend his enough, yes, it's a long day, but one day out of your vacation/Holiday to see Chichen Itza is well worth it.
The tour guide Alfredo was spectacular and knowledgeable, we learned so much and this is so worth every penny to go to all three areas with a guide!

Great Sites, Not Well Timed
Richard_H, Aug 2023
The sites were all great. The Yalku Tour Guide was not. Gustavo didn't speak English well enough - vocabulary or pronounciation. He also did not give significant site information. He did talk a bit about culture and his philosophies, but not nearly enough about the structures we visited. Our time was not well-used. General philosophy of religion and the simple trade economy could have been explained while we drove. At Coba we only had 15 minutes to see anything but the three buildings Gustavo showed us, and they were distant. We stood far too long out of site of the top of the first structure hearing general information and opinion. We personally were not interested in the vendors but in the incredible ruins. Too much time at vendors before lunch. Just a little too little time at the cenote. The ruins and the cenote are the stars - they need to be where the time is devoted.
Great day out
Tom_D, July 2023
Gus was a fantastic tour guide and very knowledgable. He shared a lot of great facts and made the day a great experience. Our only criticism was that the lunch wasn’t really needed and would have allowed for more time at chichen itza.
Great day with a great tour guide.
John_K, May 2023
An excellent day out. Three locations in one day initially seemed like an it would be rushed and compressed. It wasn’t, especially when you have a guide. Chechen Itza was fascinating, the huge amount of pedlars is a pain, but if you’ve been in country long enough, you can zone out. We also went to Ek Balam, not Cons. Ek Balam was equally spectacular. It is more accessible that Chechen Itza, and you can actually climb on the ruins, though I imagine as it becomes more popular, then they’ll stop that. The structures are steeply stepped though, so prepare yourself. The view from the top is breath taking. Our final stop was the cenote just outside Valladolid. A lovely place, expect crowds. The waters are lovely and cold, just what was needed after the two previous hot locations. The tour company, and specifically Roberto, our guide, we great. We had a last minute change to the itinerary which was handled well. Roberto was very good natured and knowledgable, he kept the group upbeat and made the day enjoyable.
Great experience

Absolutely a must do while in the area. Great guide great things to see. Huge contrast between Coba and Chichen Itza and after a hot day finishing with the Cenote swim was great
Be Warned!
trcockburn, Dec 2022
Way too long of a day and we didnt do the order we were told, which would have made more sense as it was extremely hot. PAY CASH (taxes that were due on trip and not before..go fugure) when you can to avoid them adding ridiculous exchange relates and 4% on top of that! We pd 72$ usd more than my em balance said, WITHOUT any fineprint stating otherwise OR they were goung to leave us in the middle of nowhere!!!! Be warned!!! There were 13 of us.
An Educational Adventure
Jillian_L, Oct 2022
The way this tour is advertised and what you actually get is slightly misleading. You are not allowed to climb up Coba as it says. This may be something that recently changed but we were disappointed. The other issue, hotel pickup is not actually included. We thought it was and had entered in our hotel when booking. The night before we had to scramble to arrange transportation to get to the meeting destination which was stressful. All that said, our tour guide David was great! We had a little over an hour at Coba, 2 hours at Chizen Itza and a little over an hour at the cenote. He was great about giving the group extra time to wander if that's what we wanted, but also keeping us on a schedule. The lunch included was delicious. We learned SO much about the Mayans and their history. The tour, for me personally, was as much educational as it was an adventure. Despite the minor discrepancy of how it is advertised, we overall really enjoyed the tour!
Avoid this company.
laura_h, Apr 2021
This company canceled our trip the night before we were to go... less than 24 hours. Completely unacceptable. Their reasoning was they didn’t have enough people for the trip. So I guess it’s your customers loss when you don’t meet your money quota for the day. Sad.......
Knowledgeable
Danielle_J, Apr 2021
Our guide Felix was very knowledgeable about the history. Great guide . Only negative thing I was unhappy about was last minute time change. Left later therefore we got back later and missed some of our activities that we were going to do at the resort.
Fun day
Yekaterina_M, Dec 2020
Tour guide was wonderful. Easy to understand and kept everything on track. Only issue is that the tour operators know ahead of time about all the extra taxes so it would be nice if that was added into the cost at the beginning instead of having to pay all these extra charges day of. The cenote was wonderful, wish we had more time there but lunch took up 40 min of the 1.5 hours so we didnt have a lot of time to swim. Overall a fun day
Bad experience
Kathy_k, Mar 2020
Horrible experience! If you want to be in a van for hours picking up and dropping off people then by all means book this excursion. This was 15 hours!!! 4 hours driving back to drop off everyone. They don’t coordinate Cancun and Playa hotels. They picked us up at 6:15am first and dropped us off last at 9:00 pm!! Ridiculous! Breakfast was not provided as mentioned. Sites were good. Too much time spent swimming
Nice tour to occupy your day
Alexandru_T, Feb 2020
The tour was very nice and occupied us the entire day. We were lucky to find chichen itza almost empty early in the morning. Enrique our guide knew even the history of Romania:)) very well informed, thanks for all the tips. The cenote wasn’t worth it, too crowded.

This is our first Time in Mexico, we are from Vancouver British Columbia Canada and we had a phenomenal time with this company! The tour guide Alfredo was spectacular and knowledgeable, we learned so much and this is so worth every penny to go to all three areas with a guide!
Amazing!
Diego_A, Jan 2020
This tour was great! The guide was amazing, knowledgeable, and super friendly! I would definitely recommend this tour!
A full day of adventures!
Melissa_M, Jan 2020
We had a great time! It was exactly what we were hoping for. We were picked up when we were supposed to be, we had a great guide who gave us a lot of good info, (but didn’t go on and on, so we had time to explore) and our driver was awesome! We lucked out and had nice weather for all of the activities as well. I would definitely recommend going on this tour! Thanks!
Amazing places!
szandrad_ral, Jan 2020
We loved this trip! Our guide, Mario was funny and gave us a lot of information of every place we visited. The only "problem" was that we didn't have enough time at Chichen Itza, as the place is huge (you would need a couple more hours for that).
The best if your wanting to see several things in one day
Sylvain I, Dec 2019
This is a great tour if your looking to see several things in one day. They also provide you with lunch and just the right amount of time for everything. Our tour guide was okay, his English was good but not perfect so you have to pay close attention when he’s speaking about the history and on the bus.
Excellent Experience
Farzana759, Dec 2019
It was an excellent selection of places all bundled up in one guided tour. Enrique, our tour guide was beyond amazing. He was extremely knowledgeable, beyond expectation. He gave us so much detailed information and history that we will not forget the experience. I would highly recommend to anyone I know.

The tour guides were excellent. The tour was good would recommend. The only thing is I wish the itinerary would have stated that the buffet during the tour doesn't include beverages and that it is an extra charge. Also for the Cenote the life jackets are extra would make the tour better if this was already included in the price when booking this tour.
Great tour, Jorje was awesome
Nathan_D, June 2019
I cannot recommend his enough, yes, it's a long day, but one day out of your vacation/Holiday to see Chichen Itza is well worth it. The tour of Chichen Itza was amazing but warm, there is shade under trees around the perimeter of the site but the main plaza of very open. We were lucky as it was cloudy which made the visit much easier. From there we went to Ik Kil Cenote for a swim and a few jumps off the 'cliff' into the very cool water, needed and enjoyed by all! After the swim came a buffet lunch which wasn't amazing but was good enough and plentiful, drinks had to be paid for but were not expensive, 50 pesos for a 'Sol' cevesa, 40 pesos for an fizzy orange / soda. From there we went to Coba, it's a big site so bicycles are available to hire for 50 pesos, it was great to gently pedal around (or two people can jump on a trike taxi for 125 pesos for 1.5 hours). Climbing the pyramid and looking across the jungle was amazing and my reason for coming to Mexico in the first place, it's a steep climb but the veiw from the top is well worth effort. Our guide was Jorje and our driver was Miguel, both were brilliant. Yes, it's hot. You are in Mexico, what do you expect? If you are considering booking this trip STOP... JUST BOOK IT NOW!
Good trip; difficult to understand tour guide
Amy L, Dec 2018
It was a good trip. We booked the English tour. The tour guide was clearly knowledgeable and passionate about the history of the places we visited, but his English was poor. We could only understand about 30% so felt like we missed out on a lot of the information about the places we visited.
