We loved Holbox so much that we plan to return just to stay there! Gorgeous place that is straight down to nature and just stunning. The tour guide was the funniest and most down to earth person we meet in Mexico. Spoke great Spanish and English. Hilarious sense of humor, very informative and really passionate about the nature. I can’t recall his name but he definitely is a comedian And you would be lucky to get him. Great transportation from playa del Carmen as well

Wasn't very happy with this trip. We paid a lot of money just to be driven to a place and have a very limited amount of time there. The tour states it's 12+ hours long, we got picked up at 8am and back earlier than 6pm, this doesn't include the time that we had to stop at a petrol station and wait an hour for another guy to pick us up. Could have organised the places we had seen via public transport and seems like it would have been a much smoother and happier time. There was nothing special about our trip that we couldn't have done ourselves, and comparing it to another tour we did it was very clear how awful this was in comparison. Also had to pay a conservation tax and the guy didn't have change in pesos so he said he would pay me later on and that never happened.

Nice trip to Holbox

Such a beautiful place! About an hour and a half on the bus from PDC and then visited 3 sites by boat. Such an amazing experience! Also free time to explore Holl oc downtown - be mindful there is no shade so you'll have to go to a beach house if you want to relax before you way back.

Our guide was very good. The transport was not that comfortable, especially as the roads are still be developed. Unfortunately the weather was not great, so I think probably took away a lot of the island atmosphere we were hoping for. We made the best of the day.

Relaxing

A guy picked us up in front of our condo which was nice but then questioned us since we had 7 adults and 1 child. He kept saying that’s not a child but she is and just very tall for her age. Then we went to a gas station to stop for a bathroom stop and to get cash out but both were out of order. Then we transferred onto another van. Jonathon was our tour guide. He drove us from Playa del Carmen to Chiquila where we hopped on a boat and started sight seeing. We saw dolphins, a bunch of different kinds of fish, birds, some reptiles and a few more things. That was good. Then we stopped on a sand barge, that was good too and ended in Holbox with lunch and free time. Lunch was awesome! The fish was tasty! Jonathon also recommend to try the Holbox ice cream. Very delicious! It was a chill day, nothing exciting but very pretty. This is more of a relaxing sight seeing fun. Jonathan did a good job overall.

Guide was fab overall experience not great, when the boat moored at passion island, we were told to get out a stroll through the vegetation, which was full of mosquitoes. I personally had 50 bites in a minute. We should have been warned of this.

Terrible driver/guide

Well, first of all.Holbox is just beautiful and very charming place. Definitely worth to visit it. But the tour I had was not nice. I have to mention that I booked at least 20 tours over Viator all around the world. Always everything went absolutely perfect. But on this tour the driver/guide named "Genaro" was a disaster. This person is not qualified at all for Viator and is not very polite. On the way to there he was more looking and tackling on his mobile phone instead looking on the road and traffic. As I asked him to concentrate more at the traffic he answered me if I don't like it the way he drives I can take a Taxi on my way back. And that was not all. Never ever I want to have a person like this on an excursion again. There was also no breakfast offered as it was mentioned and we also had to wait more than an 1h at an gasoline station and nobody knew why before the tour started. No explanation at the little Island about the birds or nature. I hope it will be the last and only bad experience I make with Viator

Good Tour but tour company bad at communicating

The excursion was good - the journey is long but we had this split between snorkling and Holbox Island. Lunch was good and tour guide was fun. The reason why i rate this 3* is firstly the confirmation/communication from the tour company was very bad. I had to chase the night before as to what my pick up location and time were. Secondly, i went on a sunday but wasnt told that there would be no bike hire due to place being closed. Instead we had an extra hour to do nothing. I think if you're paying for the full tour, the company should let you know ahead of time if one of the activities is not possible because of the day selected.

The only things, which were included in this terrible tour were the transport to chiquila, the ferry to holbox and the lunch in a restaurant. All things, which we really came for werent possible (private boat tour, drinks & food on board, alma bar, swim in natural pools). Don‘t book this.

Nice but full with Sargassum

The first stop was very nice; amazing view enjoying a long walk in the beach towards the ocean was priceless. We took a fun ride in bycicles throughout the island. The only issue was that the beach was awfully smelly and unpleasant to stay because it was packed full with sargassum and the weather at the time wasn't the best either.

Sadly the description was not accurate at all. We didn't have snacks (we did have drinks), we didn't go to the bar stated in the description, so we also didn't get any welcome shot, golf cart transfer, great views or anything of the sort. The guide had good intention of having good energy, but it came across a bit fake, loud and distant. Also at the restaurant they took us, instead of the promised one, they got most of the orders wrong, didn't even apologize or even offer to change it to what we have ordered. It was messy, fast paced and pricy for not getting much more than just the transportation and a very basic meal that wasn't even what we ordered. The negative part aside, Holbox is a wonderful place and sells for itself. You can't miss it!

Holbox was beautiful! This tour provides a snack/breakfast when you get on the bus. Then they take your order for lunch. You visit two places before you get to Holbox but they are worth the wait! Very pretty! Arturo was awesome! Super nice guy and very informative and funny!

Day was outstanding. Frank was an excellent guide. We took golf carts to different beaches and enjoyed the water. Frank handled everything from start to finishing a "gem."

Holbox Sells Itself But The Tour Did Not Live Up To Personal Expectations

The trip wasn't accurate as advertised. This was a Spanish speaking tour with some English for the one passenger who was not bilingual. I received a watered down, time condensed English version of references to history as the majority of the booked guests onboard the tour bus spoke Spanish. I was told because I was the only one onboard who speaks English the lead guide will translate in Spanish first and then in English. The main guide spoke Spanish for more than an hour and the version I received in English was less than 20 minutes. What I believe were humorous anecdotes in Spanish through the guide's narration at the start of trip, which made many of the passengers laugh raucously, were not translated to me in English to share in on the humor. Dear English only speakers, this is a common practice whenever you take tours in countries where English is not the native tongue. Companies advertise English but the language of choice will almost always be the common language spoken by the majority of booked passengers. That's reality. You sometime feel like you are "alone" in a crowded room. I felt that way at the start of the tour. That said our lead guide Alturo (sp?) was engaging and had a gift for gab, mostly in Spanish disappointingly. The lunch box offered at the start of the tour consisted of an apple, a kid's size juice box, a dessert bar and a thin sandwich consisting of one slice of lunch meat, a slice of American cheese, mayonnaise , one slice of tomato and a thin layer of leafy greens. I only ate the apple. We didn't visit Alma's bar as advertised but was offered a free 1 hour bike rental to tour Holbox on our own. We were on Holbox for roughly 3 hours. The actual lunch (not what we received at the start of the tour) at a local restaurant on Holbox was disappointingly bland, no flavor. Edible, but I wasn't looking for seconds. It was plated not buffet due to Covid. I was looking forward to the seafood disappointingly. The value in this tour were stops at the three advertised islands offering beautiful views, pristine shallow sand banks, and warm waters. Holbox did not disappointment. It is truly paradise. I couldn't give the tour a very good or higher rating because of the limited English translation. My tip to the guide was adjusted accordingly. Next time I will book direct transportation to the island and back and explore on my own now that I know the lay of the land. It's a beautiful place by day and looks like a fun time at night. I'm not disappointed I took the tour. I would have paid more for the RT transportation on my own from start to finish. It just didn't fully live up my expectations. I give it a "B" not a very good. This is a long day. You probably won't have time to eat breakfast at your hotel, the lunch will be a disappointment if you have better offerings at your hotel, but you at least make it back in time for a late dinner.

Genaro was our tour guid for the day, he was upbeat and had great energy. He definitely delivered on everything he told us the tour would be like. Holbox is a beauty to be seen and enjoyed in person.

What a peaceful and fun adventure. A great place to just disconnect and relax amongst the quiet and clean beaches and enjoy the local culture and great restaurants. If you want to get away and just relax you have this place for sure. I will be back again

It was by far one of the best tours I’ve had in Mexico, Cancun! Our tour guide Luis was so funny and so nice, easy to talk to and overall good guy. The trip to holbox was nice. The best part is getting to the sand banks and just relaxing and having a good time.
