Though there are soft drink stands and sounvenir stores at the crater, carry plenty of liquid for the climb up and down and use the toilet at the base of the volcano before you journey up.

Antonio was such a gift to our family! His knowledge of the history of Mt. Vesuvius, Pompeii and Herculaneum was beyond impressive. He had tons of pictures to show us what areas used to look like so we could picture it while looking at the ruins. My 12 and 14 year old enjoyed the trip as well. We started by hiking up Mt. Vesuvius, then we explored Pompeii for a couple of hours. He said it could take 2-3 full days to explore it all so I super appreciated him taking us to the highlights and some of them off the beaten path. After that we had lunch and then on to Herculaneum which was just as impressive! We learned so much and the private tour was 100% worth every cent. I would recommend this tour for everyone!

What an amazing experience. This was the highlight of our entire five weeks in Italy. Our host, Antonio, was amazing very informative, super friendly and easy-going and we couldn’t have asked for a better tour guide. If you’re contemplating doing this tour and are concerned about the cost, don’t…it is well worth the money for the one-on-one guidance and information let alone the comfort!

This was a great trip made even better with a great tour guide. I went with my mom, who is 76 and walks with a cane. She was able to walk to the top of Mt Vesuvius… slow and steady. But we did it. Then we spent a couple of hours at Herculaneum, which I thoroughly enjoyed and about an hour at Pompeii. Antonio, our guide was helpful with my mom and he taught us so much about the two cities and the history of the eruption.

Seeing the crater and learning about Roman life. Just a fantastic and interesting experience. Our guide was excellent. He had wealth of knowledge and took extra time in areas that we were interested in. Our guide had great communication skills and answered many questions.

Our guide Tony could not have been more passionate about the area and the wealth of information he passed on was just so interesting. Going to both Pompei ruins and Ercolona ruins was a little redundant although both were quite interesting. Please make sure you understand that you must secure tickets to walk up Mt Vesuvius online BEFOREHAND-that was not clear in the description.

Lucia was phenomenal she took the time to explain all the little details of each site which we loved!! Herculaneum is one not to miss, and was our favourite part, it even stood out against Pompeii. Absolutely loved this tour. Highly recommend!!!

I absolutely loved this trip. Pompeii was on all the tours - private and otherwise - but I was determined to see Herculaneum, which was much less common on the tours, especially if you wanted to also visit Pompeii. I’m not sure why this is. Doing a completely private tour for an all day trip like this was definitely not cheap, but I was so glad that we did it this way. It was a completely curated experience, without any of the hassles of having to deal with other people. In any case, I was so incredibly glad that we went to Herculaneum, and went there first in the morning after we arrived in Naples. It was practically empty, completely serene, and gave a glimpse into Roman life that was mesmerizing. Tony is knowledgeable, friendly, and seems to really enjoy what he does. We had all the time we needed at both sites and he was thrilled to help us understand anything we wanted to know. In hindsight, I would have been perfectly happy to see Herculaneum and skip Pompeii. Pompeii is much more crowded with tourists and while it’s great to see such a large city (Herc is much smaller), everything you see there is more “commercial” - think reconstructions and signage and walkways, etc. Herculaneum has a certain natural feel to it. Of course, it’s been touched and cleaned up, and most of the relics have been taken and put in museums, but you still have the feeling that, otherwise, it’s as it was left, which is really cool. So I would say - don’t skip Herculaneum! It is incredible. And thanks so much to Tony for his gracious hosting, comfortable driving, and hospitable personality. We had a wonderful time.

Tony was excellent. You cannot go wrong with this tour. He is extremely knowledgeable and made the tour interesting for the adults and kids on our tour. If you have any designs on seeing Pompeii, Herculaneum and a hike up Vesuvious, you would be foolish not to book this tour.

Tony was an awesome guide for our private tour!! He was professional and his knowledge and passion for history was evident!! He tailored our tour to whatever we wanted and he even let us stop for a great lunch!! Tony was a great guide who gave us good background information about each place even before we arrived. He had a tablet on our tour which allowed us to associate the ruins we saw with what the actual site looked like before it’s destruction!! A great tour made special by a very informative guide!! Tony, our guide, was phenomenal. His knowledge of history and his enthusiasm for the area, made this tour an incredible experience for us. Pompeii, in particular, is so large and without a guide, you would definitely miss the more important and interesting sights. We also needed to make a change in drop off location at the end of the tour, and despite being difficult logistically, Tony made it happen. We are so appreciative of him taking us through these amazing sites and also making the logistics all work out for us. I highly recommend this tour and Tony, in particular.
