What To Expect

Surrounded by 55 acres (22 hectares) of reef, the low-lying coral key of Low Isles provides an excellent base for exploring the famous coral formations and marine life of the Great Barrier Reef. Climb aboard a luxurious 98-foot (30-meter) sailing catamaran, relax in an air-conditioned cabins or lounge on the sun decks while cruising across the beautiful aquatic landscape of the Coral Sea. Learn about the marine life you can expect to see with an onboard presentation by a marine biologist.

After arriving at Low Isles, don provided equipment and snorkel straight off the beach to begin exploring the reef. Swim in designated areas on your own, or join a guided tour to learn more about the coral gardens and creatures you see, including giant clams, tropical fish and green sea turtles. You can also experience the reef from the dry cabin of a glass-bottom boat and explore the white sand beaches and tropical forest of the island on a guided nature walk.

Recharge your energy with a tropical buffet lunch plus morning and afternoon tea. If you prefer something stronger, treat yourself to a cocktail from the catamaran’s fully licensed bar (own expense). After several hours of adventure and relaxation, enjoy the luxurious return cruise to Port Douglas.

I couldnt believe how nice all the staff were. They clearly love their jobs! Lunch was fresh and yummy. It was such a great day out considering all the storm and rain the week before. Waters were choppy but inside on the way home had live music which was so relaxing after the day!

Fabulous day snorkeling with visiting family

An easy day with great snorkeling. The small island experience is better for inexperienced or if traveling with non-snorkelers. Wavedancer has become our “go to” experience. We have done inner and outer reefs with more experienced snorkelers which is fabulous but this provided an easier alternative for our visiting guests. We saw a lot of different fish as well as coral but the sea turtles were awesome. Best part is the boat ride out is short and very easy so no issues with sea sickness even with a bit of weather on the way back to Port Douglas. We plan on bringing our young grandchildren next time for their first experience.

I saw 2 fish in very murky waters... due to lowest tide for the year. The company should not run tours in these conditions knowing the experience was greatly compromised. Staff were very good and friendly but does not make up for disappointment!

Yesterday we had a fantastic day aboard the Wavedancer. The weather was overcast and drizzly however the water visibility was still excellent and we were able to see amazing coral, large colourful fish, sea turtles and reef sharks. We absolutely loved the day. The staff were so friendly, knowledgeable and caring and made everyone welcomed and ensured all skill levels were accommodated. Captain ‘Sharkie’ even ensured we got the perfect selfie of the island ! The morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea was perfect and we felt really looked after. The day was topped off my a member of staff serenading us with his guitar for the ride home. We would highly recommend this trip.

We can’t fault the day at all. Weather was perfect, staff were super friendly and we saw sea turtles to top it off. The glass bottom boat was incredible, our little one enjoyed seeing all the coral and fishies too. A highlight of our Port Douglas trip for sure.
