Nestled high up the tropical mountains at 1076 feet (328 meters) above sea level, the rain forest village of Kuranda is a must-see destination on any trip to Cairns. Travel to the historic outpost in style, beginning with pickup at your Cairns or port Douglas hotel. Choose the order of your transit options at booking to customize the day. 

On one leg of the journey, skip the line for a ride aboard the Kuranda Scenic Railway. Enjoy Gold Class service in a well-appointed cedar train car featuring comfortable lounge chairs, timber flooring and historic memorabilia. Sip on sparkling Australian wine, tea and coffee and nibble snacks while enjoying magnificent views of mountains and valleys and waterfall-studded Barron Gorge. On the opposite leg, get an aerial perspective of Tropical North Queensland as you soar over the treetops on the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway. The sky rail was good

Sky rail was good. The train was not good. We booked the gold class and skip the line but there was no lines to skip. Also the services was not very good in the gold carriage as we was offered only 1 drink where others was asked if they would like a refill we had to ask for another drink. Also when they brought the wipes round he offered me one and as my wife was going to take hers he just walked away.

The scenic gold class was absolutely fabulous. Great journey, magnificent scenery and a wonderful conductor. The Skytrain was also great. It was a shame that I was booked to be transferred from Skyrail at 8am only to be told by coach driver I was not booked on her schedule and should wait for the 9.10am transfer coach. Having arrived at 7.30am not to be late a wait of over 90 minutes was unacceptable. Recommend booking direct with Skyrail.

The Kuranda Gold Pass train trip is stunning and the service is excellent. We enjoyed the food, the sights and the history of how the rail dangerously came into existence. We needed more time in Kuranda, but enjoyed the Koala Sanctuary with other wildlife there. Many shops and eating places in Kuranda to peruse. The Skyrail is amazing with great and vast views of forest with 2 stops on the way to get out and look around. Our coach driver in the morning was great - amiable, helpful, humorous and informative. The whole day was seamless and thoroughly enjoyable. We loved it and would recommend it to all.

The Kuranda scenic rail never gets old. I have done a couple of times now and would definitely recommend the gold class going up and the sky rail coming back. Mondays not a lot open as far as eateries go but otherwise I suggest frog restaurant or the Kuranda pub is also good.

Views from the train and Skyrail were magnificent. The information given to us about the history of the railway and its construction was very interesting as was that of the Skyrail and how it was built with helicopters so that the forest was basically undisturbed, amazing! It was also nice to have locally produced food products on the train. Good wandering around the shops and stopping for a coffee at a cafe at Kuranda

Train / sky rail great….communication re booking poor

Train ride and sky rail experiences are outstanding. However, overall communication about our booking was very poor. We booked the gold class skip the line experience. There is no skip the line….if you’re in gold class. We wanted afternoon train but got morning. First class food was basic….party sausage roll, dry muffin and an Anzac biscuit. And alcohol at 10am! When we picked up by the tour bus our itinerary was in Chinese. Don’t waste your money on skip the line/gold class or booking through viator

Spectacular scenery both ways

We started our day on the Skyrail which was spectacular but nothing compared to the Gold service on the Kuranda Scenic railway on the way back down. The views were magnificent and Gold is definitely the only way to do it. We did find spending all day in Kuranda a bit much though and would have liked the option to return to Cairns a little earlier.

Such a fun trip to Kuranda. First taking the scenic railway and being served morning tea while taking in the beautiful views of Barrons Gorge. Then visiting the Koala Gardens (held a Koala), Bird World and Butterfly Sanctuary and Souvenir shopping in Kuranda Village. Took the Skyrail back to Cairns which was such an amazing experience! We were flying higher than birds above this fascinating and magnificent rainforest.

Loved the canopy sky rail. The train was really fun and had some great reviews. It was fun to go back in time a bit. If you do the train, recommend going in the gold car. Drinks and snacks and much more comfortable. Kuranda is a cute town-very touristy. Did not do any of the museums since we had seen most before. Well recommend-just a nice relaxing day.
