Next, explore another UNESCO site, Pompeii, a once-forgotten city covered in ash from a volcanic eruption in 79 AD that was accidentally discovered about 1,700 years later. You’ll then continue your tour along coastal roads to the seaside village of Amalfi, known for its colorful terraces that sit on dramatic cliffs. During your free time, wander the public plazas, enjoying the many cafes and shops, where red coral jewelry is a popular gift to take home.

Goat Crossings in Amalfi
Lena_W, Aug 2022
My email from the company said to be ready by 6:45am for an approx. pick up. The driver got to my hotel at 7:40am when the tour was supposed to depart at 7:30am. Unfortunately, the tour company only had ONE driver that morning so it took longer than expected. I waited outside for almost an hour and was worried that I was forgotten because there was no communication if I was being picked up at this point. Aside from the rushed morning, we drove for over an hour to our first rest stop at a hotel, which was easy to get in and out to use the toilet and grab a quick snack. The next stop was in Pompeii where we got lunch for pizza, salad and a drink, which is included in the package. We then drove to our site to tour Pompeii. But before we did, we wasted some time at Hotel Victoria to listen how jewelry were made back in the day and to get to the toilet downstairs, you had to walk through all this art work and jewelry that they tried to sell you. We had to spend about 15-20 minutes in here before our tour guides would take us to do the actual tour. I'm sure it's some deal they strike with the hotel in order for us to use their toilets. The tour was great. Our tour guide was informative and tried to get through the sites quickly since it was REALLY hot that day in August 2022. The tour lasted for 2 hours and then we had a good 45 mins. to roam inside the gift shop and what not before we got picked up again at 4:15pm to go back on the bus. Since I booked separately to go to Amalfi, the private driver was chill and he drove us to Amalfi which took little over an hour due to some traffic issues and goat crossings a few times. Yes, I said goat crossings. Once I checked in, I was lucky enough to get such a large room that was really clean including the shower. There was no pressure to do anything at Amalfi so it was do what you want. I decided to not do the ferry because of the storms and just took precaution. I did manage to find one of the oldest paper making mills there and made paper! Had really great meals at Da Meme, which was hidden away from tourists downstairs. (Walk around the stair cases to find better restaurants and less crowded). Stroll along the boardwalks in the evening and it was a very relaxed tour. Driver came back to pick me up in the afternoon, which took about an hour to get back to Pompeii where the tour busses were at. The drive was smooth back to Rome after.
Naples, Pompeii, amalfi
David_N, July 2019
The tour turned out to be only for Pompeii & Naples. The driver advised that we were separating from the group and took us to Amalfi hotel. No other information was provided. This caused serious anxiety on how we would get back to Rome. I had to call tour company next day. No group touring of Amalfi offered.
What a great trip!

From the coordination, communication, to the private vehicle driver, and the location of the hotel...this trip was an A+++! The agencies contracted, I love Rome and Carrani Tours, were so great to us and we had an excellent time. The guided tour of Pompeii and trip to Amalfi Coast with this company is a must if you're in Rome
Carrani Tours / I Love Rome needs to...

Carrani Tours / I Love Rome needs to significantly improve its communication with their clients. I expected a 3 day group tour however ended up only spending half of the first day with a group to drive by Naples we did not leave the bus for this portion of the tour and visit Pompei. At Pompei a private chauffeur showed up and whisked me to Amalfi by myself. The tour company did not inform me this would be happening and I spent the 1.5 hour drive panicking and trying to get through to Carrani Tours to no avail. Once in Amalfi the staff at Hotel La Bussola finally explained that I would be staying with them for 2 days and will then be collected and brought back to Pompei where I will rejoin the bus and go back to Rome. Amalfi was stunning, the hotel booked by Carrani Tours was gorgeous and my balcony looked out over the entire coast. I ended up loving the tour but proper communication could've saved me a lot of anxiety.

From the pick up to our Rome hotel to the bus going to Naples, service was excellent. Mercedez Benz private transfer round trip from Pompeii to Amalfi Coast, the Hotel was fabulous!!! oceanfront view with a terrace, food was excellent, fine dining every night. The response to my inquiry via email during the tour was awesome, on time and on point. Thank Viator, I will definitely book with you again.

This was an amazing trip. It was well worth the cost. Viator took care of all of our travel, the hotel was fantastic, everything went really well. I highly recommend this trip!

Diane_G, Oct 2017
The natural beauty is amazing but Carrani Tours made it disappointing. I never received information about my hotel name or where it was located nor the timing. I was just dropped off at the steps of a hotel. No written info or description by the company. Although the tour of Pompeii, lunch, and hotel was marvelous, the guide on our bus was hard to understand and not helpful. The non speaking driver that rushed a few of us off to the hotel in Amalfi made it impossible to communicate so I was without my bag for 2 days. The Carrani bus company did not help until the hotel clerk insisted and even then the driver did not come until the second day and was 45 minutes late. I was given no information on the schedule so I spent 7 hours in the hotel lobby waiting. This meant I missed the transportation that would have taken me back to Rome sooner. Also, no one told me that food was included so I spent money for meals. The hotel said they have no customer service with that bus company, they just drop people off. It is not right to say it is a tour when actually the only tour is the great guide in Pompeii. IT-1035631595 through Viator departed Thursday, Sept 14- I would encourage people to book a hotel in the coastal area and find their own transportation because there is no advantage to this tour. It is not a tour.

This tour was Amazing!! We loved Pompeii our tour guide was so informative and helpful. I have a slight disability and he was very good at making sure I too got the most out of the tour so appreciated! Hotel in Amalfi was perfect across the street from the ocean, Food and staff were wonderful!

Partly my fault, but I hadn't realised everything happened on Day 1 then nothing. The tour by bus with one quick photo stop in Naples was barely worth a mention. The lunch on Day 1 was horrible. Pompeii was interesting and very crowded. The trip to Amalfi by myself with a non-English speaking driver was a little scary as he couldn't tell me where we were going and I had no itinerary. The 3-star hotel in Amalfi is well situated and the food's pretty good. I guess I'd expected others on the tour and something happening on Days 2 and 3. Amalfi is a very beautiful town.

Julie S, Jan 2017
On August 31 of 2016, my friend and I left Rome for a three day tour, which included Naples, Pompeii, and the Amalfi coast. From the very start, we were met with difficulties. First, we were instructed to meet our driver at a hotel near our accommodations at 6:30 am. We arrived at 6:20 am and found him in the lobby, very irritated that we weren't already there. He tossed our luggage into the back of the van and pealed out with us and two men. As we careened through the twists and turns of Rome, we all buckled our seat belts out of necessity or we may have been thrown from our seats. Then we picked up two additional tourists and headed at breakneck speed to the Carrani tour hub. Our driver didn't tell us where to go or what to do, but we found our bus and embarked only to wait about 45 minutes to an hour to depart. I don't understand the haste and discourtesy of our first driver when we had to wait on the bus for so long to leave. Finally we left Rome and arrived in Naples. We expected some sort of tour, but all we did was get off the bus for a photo of the bay and we were hustled back on to the bus to a hotel/restaurant where we were served tasteless and barely warm food. We were constantly reminded to tip the waitstaff at least one euro. I thought for the cost of the tour this was unnecessary and condescending. The tour of Pompeii was fine. After Pompeii, we separated from the main group and were driven to the Amalfi coast. We had upgraded to a 4 star hotel, and found our accommodations to be lacking. Our refrigerator didn't work the entire time we were there. We asked about it at least three times and were assured it would be fixed it was not. The room was very hot the air conditioner couldn't keep up with the heat outside. The food for dinner at the hotel was not 4 star quality at all. Before we left the states for our Italy trip, we had booked train tickets from Naples to Milan for the afternoon of our last day on the Amalfi Coast. When we arrived at our hotel in Amalfi, we asked the staff to call Carrani and arrange for an earlier departure, from 3 to 12. They assured us that it was all taken care of. Then the morning of our departure, we discovered that the hotel staff had merely booked us a taxi, costing us each 50 Euro on top of the cost of our trip. We had paid for the transfer from the hotel to Rome, and we simply needed to leave earlier to catch our train in Naples. The Amalfi coast was beautiful and Pompeii was an interesting visit, but I would not recommend this tour to anyone because of the expense and the low quality service, accommodations, and food.

The lunch provided was terrible. Plain fish or meat was a disgrace. I would not be proud to serve that. Pomeii tour was very educational. Amalfi was wonderful.

Amalfie Coast is a must-see. Pompeii is a must-do. Love every minute of it.

Brett S, May 2016
This tour was poorly organised and there was not much communication to the group what was happening over the 3 days. We were on a bus with half the group only doing the first day of the tour which was to Naples and Pompeii then returning to Rome. We were then taken by mini bus to Amalfi not knowing where we staying and what was happening for the remaining 2 days. The 3 day tour was overpriced for what it was as the last 2 days only included accommodation and meals no further guided tours. We had free time for the last 2 days which was nice but we seemed to be paying the tour company for nothing.

The tour guide in Pompeii was wonderful - he loved Pompeii, was so informative and answered all questions. He was considerate and kept the group together. Amalfi went above and beyond my expectations, the transfer over the mountains from Naples was an experience, the hotel was lovely with helpful considerate staff who volunteer great information about the local area and ways to spend our free time. I recommend mths short ferry trip to Positano - it was beautiful!

Very well organised. Guides were very informative and we had enough time out from walking and listening. Most enjoyable trip. Loved Amalfi!
Naples was a waste of time...
Annette Louise G, June 2015
Naples was a waste of time, Pompeii-good. At this point suppose to go to Sorrento but forced to separate from our friends due to a Viator miscommunication. Which was not remedied due to the fact that your dealing with a third party! Claudia tour guide was not very positive with her delivery.

Joanne H, Jan 2015
This was not much of a tour. There was a lot of wasted time where we were expected to purchase junk. Driving through Naples does not constitute a tour. I was sent alone in a car with a driver that could not speak English to Amalfi. Dropped after dark and told my hotel was up the street. I will never book a Viator tour again.

Lovely 3 days with Sunny 25o days, The (opt.) trip to The Isle of Capri was a lovely day with our trip to The Blue Pools beautiful. I did however feel that the one fee you paid at Capri for this tour should have been inclusive of the entry to the cave which wasn't the case.Vivienne (Australia)

We absolutely loved this tour...
Belinda S, July 2014
We absolutely loved this tour. Miriam had very interesting information and Victorio was so passionate and knowledgable about Pompeii. I would not recommend the Naples part of the tour. We went on to Amalfi for 2 nights and highly recommend upgrading to the 4 star option. A very well organised tour!
