Great tour. Didn’t take too long to get into the Colosseum (end of September). The guide, David, was great, had good humour to go along with the history of the sites. He gave us good recommendations for restaurants and tips about Rome itself. Highly recommend the tour.

Maybe we got lucky but this was one of the best tours I have ever experienced. I can’t describe how important it was to get David as our guide and highly recommend asking for him if you can. He was knowledgeable but had a good pace, took us to the best spots, and was hilarious.

It’s a lottery on who you get as a guide

I guess what makes these tours good or bad is the guide that gets assigned to your group. At the meeting people they organized each group into languages and provided earbuds to hear our guide. Earbuds worked well. We had a large group of about 25-30 people and a very dull elderly female guide. She was hard to understand in her monotone speech plus a thick Italian accent. It was hard not to drift off into another group because you end up following lines of walking people. Our guide kept handing off her flag to different people in the group, including a young girl she called our mascot. She took a personal call in Italian in the middle of the touring, and we could all hear the conversation in the earbuds. Pretty shocking.

If you are thinking of booking this tour.. DONT. We were a few minutes late as we were unable to find the meeting point and although we had called to find them they left without us and couldn’t even give us our tickets to enter the colosseum. After a very heated discussion they advised us that they could give us the tickets for an extra price . We had already spent $400 on these tickets. In the end Viator rejected our request to refund these tickets. Highly disappointed. I will not be using Viator again.
