What To Expect

Your evening out in Rome starts at a location near the Pantheon, where you meet your culinary guide and take a brief walk to a family-run restaurant for your memorable dining experience in the Italian capital.

When you arrive, meet the owners of the restaurant, aficionados of traditional Italian wine and cuisine, and then head down to the restaurant’s private cellar. Take in the unique ambience of the cellar, where an old Roman structure was discovered at the floor level during renovation work in the area, and take part in the Italian pre-dinner custom of an aperitivo—a cocktail or glass of wine (in this case, you receive a glass of prosecco) enjoyed with a selection of regional cheese and cured meat.

Then head back up to the elegant dining room, sitting down at your reserved table for your 3-course dinner of Roman-style dishes. Each course is paired with a fine regional wine selected by the chef and guide to enhance the flavors of both the food and vino.

At the end of your meal, your experience ends outside the Pantheon, which is romantically illuminated in the moonlight.

Tour Guide should have guided

Our Tour Guide was friendly and spoke English very well and young. She gave us a some info on the Pantheon as we walked to the Restaurant for Dinner. Unfortunately the other couple cancelled and made the evening a little awkward. The tour guide was having one on one conversations with one couple/family, which made it weird because it was only us and the other family. The other family was asking inappropriate questions of the Tour Guide. I believe that if the Tour Guide had taken control of the dinner, that would not have happened. I felt very uncomfortable. As a result, we did not learn what wine we drank or given a description of the dinner. Albeit the dinner was delicious.

Our guide was delightful and very knowledgeable. The food was delicious and explained and paired very well. It would have been very nice to visit the cellar. I am not sure why they did not offer this. They uncovered an old Roman wall and it would have been great to see it as promised.

This is a meal at a busy restaurant with a knowledgeable guide. This is NOT a unique venue. This is NOT semi-private. Both of those descriptions were provided by Viator. Get a recommendation from your hotel for a great restaurant. Rely upon your server to make suggestions and then order 2 or 3 bottles of wine of and enjoy your meal, and it will be just as memorable and less expensive. Sorry, truth.

Great but misleading

Food was great and our host, Daniella, was terrific. The cellar is closed for renovation so there was no visit to the cellar as advertised…I saw this in other comments but assumed it would be open by the time we went or Viator would note that in the description…very misleading for them not to. Daniella said instead that we would visit the chef in the kitchen but we never did. So this is basically a pairing dinner with another family. Between the two families of 4 (total of 8 of us), there is only one bottle for each pairing so everyone gets about a half a glass. Food and host were great, but the experience seems overpriced (about double for equivalent meals we had on our own in Rome albeit without a host to accompany us) and the description is misleading (and it sounds like the cellar won’t be open anytime soon even though Viator continues to advertise it).

I didn't promise we'd access the kitchen, since is not permitted for health reasons and never included, maybe there was a misunderstanding when I sai I will introduce Tina (the chef) to you. This wine and food pairing dinner is a succesful started in 2013, temporary the cellar cannot be visited, canceling such a great experience for that reason would be a pity. Happy you loved my style :)
