What To Expect

Skip the Line: Ancient Rome and Colosseum Half-Day Walking Tour

Your day of sightseeing starts near the Colosseum, where you meet your guide and take a walk up Oppian Hill for a view of the amphitheater, perhaps Rome’s most iconic symbol. Then walk back down and enter the Colosseum with your skip-the-line ticket, allowing you to jump the main entrance queue and go straight inside. Explore the first two levels of the arena, listening to brutal stories about the gladiator battles and other bloody events that once took place here.

Exiting the Colosseum, walk over to the Roman Forum, stopping by the Arch of Constantine on the way. Then walk up Palatine Hill for more views of the ruins before your tour ends on Via Sacra, the street that connects Capitoline Hill to the Colosseum.

At this point, you have free time to get some lunch and explore on your own before the second part of your Super Saver begins (lunch is at your own expense).

Best of Rome Walking Tour

In the afternoon, your walking tour starts at Piazza di Spagna, where you meet your guide and set off around Rome’s historic center. Admire the famous Spanish Steps, which lead up to the Trinita dei Monti church, and then walk to the Trevi Fountain, perhaps Rome’s most famous fountain, known for its legend that states if you throw a coin in the water, you will return to Rome someday.

Continue to the square that ancient Romans considered to be the center of the city, Piazza Colonna, and then visit the stately Pantheon. Walk through lively Piazza Navona, where street artists show off their talents and visitors mingle around the baroque fountains.

The tour required a lot of walking so wear comfortable shoes and dress appropriately.
I would recommend doing the tours on different days the day could be very long but worth it.

We had a wonderful tour guide. Rome was extremely packed and our tour guide did his very best to give us a great tour. We were disappointed that originally when we booked it was supposed to include a tour of a church and a stop for coffee or gelato, which we did not receive but, we do understand how difficult the day was with so many people touring the city that day.

Going back thousands of years was mind boggling. Our guide Sylvia "the frog" made it even more enjoyable. Her knowledge about the monuments was awesome and she took us back in history. Definitely worth skipping the line

Do this tour. Our guide was excellent. She was very knowledgeable and exceeded my expectations. Follow up this tour with an underground tour of the Coloseum, get the full experience. This tour included the Forum at the end. If you have time, walk around the whole Forum. Their was not enough time in the tour to cover the whole thing. Maybe search for a more inclusive Forum tour if you want a little more out of that area.

We had a great time with guide Sylvia on this tour. She was so knowledgeable, passionate and friendly which made the experience so much better!! We wish the tour could have gone for longer and covered more of Rome!!! Only minor downside is we didn't get our gelato but we didn't do the tour just for the gelato so we found some elsewhere!! Highly recommend this tour!!

Terrible experience. I arrived 20 minutes early to find the tour, but the description on where to meet was not helpful - it simply said to meet at the "second floor of the Colosseum metro." There were thousands and thousands of people there, and I could not find anyone from the tour company. When I finally found someone about 2 minutes after the tour was supposed to start, he refused to look at his list to see if I should have been on his tour. Go see these sites without taking this tour - you'll save a lot of money and frustration.

We were 8 minutes late for the morning portion of our tour. We were no allowed to try to meet the group in the line for the tour. We were told we could not join the second part of our tour later in the day. I get that we were late. We arrived to the location on time but struggled to find our tour in the crowds. No one from the tour company was helpful. Not in person on the phone or via online communications.

The first portion of the trip was amazing the tour guide was very knowledgeable. We where very tired from the first portion of the tour and tried to reschedule the second portion for Tuesday 12/7. No one has gotten back to our request still

It was our 2nd day but our last day in Rome and we wanted to cover a lot of ground and this tour does it! In the morning we had a guide who took us through the Colosseum and the Roman Forum for about 3 hours. Selerna was so great with pictures to help us understand what thing would have looked like originally and she provided great stories and historical information! In the afternoon, Damian, walked us through more historical sights some with a more modern relevance including the Spanish steps, the Trevi fountain and the Panthenon. He was very informative and really kept the group engaged the whole 3 hours! Both tour guides gave us “insider tips” for lunch and dinner!

It was a fabulous afternoon seeing and learning about the sites in Rome as well as the secret hidden details of churches, paintings and thoughts beyond the facade. Our guide was flexible and fun. He improvised and took us places to avoid crowds and the rain. I recommend this for everyone.

I toured the Colosseum with Sev and a group of people and had an absolutely incredible time. I learned a ton, he was funny, and he knew so much about the history that he was able to respond to almost any type of question. I wish he had led my walking tour as well!

Rome colosseum - not good

Hmmm. Where to start. This tour needs to be better defined. If you have ANY issues with hips, knees, legs, feet, do NOT do this tour! My other half has some issues with his knees. At the colosseum, we had to walk up very steep stairs. It was NEVER told to us that there was a lift (elevator) to use. The tour director was moving at, ummmm, let’s just say very brisk pace and did not slow down. Honestly, it seemed she really did not care. I fully understand they are on a time table, but come on. Again, had this been stated in the description, we would not have signed up for it. We ended up losing the group. And no she didn’t come looking for us. We went back to the starting point to locate a taxi, and all of a sudden the tour director comes running up asking where we went to and wanted the headsets back. She asked if we liked the tour, and when we said not really - it was too fast, she was like oh, ok thanks have a good day. Sorry, but WTF??? We did NOT do the afternoon walking tour at all. To be honest, I’ll probably ask for a refund.
