Overpriced and not worth what was charged.

What we were charged versus what it cost. Having spent £96 for 2 people I was vastly dissatisfied and disappointed. Viator charged £42 per person. The tour first involved a walk to the tour operator to collect tickets and then another walk to the panoramic bus which was a bus with an open roof and windows. It was just a bog standard bus smaller than the tour busses other providers operated. You can ride them for about 20 euros all day. We went to the catacombs and got our tickets, some brief descriptions of what we saw in the city. We then waited around half an hour for the tour. The catacombs are only €10 entry each if you pay on the day. The catacombs themselves were great, but there are no skulls or things like that to see. We had included in our ticket price the piazza Navona which we went to the next day. I absolutely loved it and recommend the €4 virtual reality which includes a view of the Colosseum as it was supposed to look. We had to make our own way to the Piazza Navona and back and it would have only cost €8.50 per person. €20 x 2, + 10 x 2, +8.50 x 2 = €77. This is if we'd included in the price a hop on hop off bus which we could have travelled to the piazza Navona on as well. As that wasn't what was provided I can only value the bus ride there at €12 per person max. So we paid £96 for €61 worth of tour. I advise anyone thinking of using Viator to read their returns policies, reviews that mention them and relevant information about how they overcharge. We've had similar experiences on several tours they are selling at massively inflated prices.

This tour was wonderful! The process to register was super easy and Yasmine who directed us to the bus for pickup was so kind, funny and easy to follow!!! The driver was amazing and so personable!!! The catacombs were very Interesting. Loved this tour!

We were 15 min. late, Jessica was so very kind and rescheduled us for the next morning. And then our hotel told us what time to come for a taxi and taxi’s were all delayed by an hour so we missed our second opportunity to see the catacombs.

Too much unneeded walking to get on the bus! The tour at Catacombs was wonderful

The catacombs were marvelous. I loved how Christians made sacrifices to grow their faith! Today’s Christian’s need to know how much sacrifice was made them. Today we think it difficult to drive 5 miles in air condition car to attend a service if we fell like it or have nothing to do!

We were so excited… but we’re wildly disappointed. started with a 30 min video that was a glorified slideshow of buildings in Rome (nothing to do with catacombs)… the bus driver was quite efficient with traffic and amusing. Tour was 20 min and they only showed us 3 rooms and the group was so large we couldn’t hear at the back and they wouldn’t allow pictures or anything so a toTal waste of money to see holes in rocks as all artifacts have been removed.

Just take a taxi instead

We wanted to do a Catacomb tour at the last minute, but most of them are a ways out of the city. This tour bussed us there and then I believe the guided tour was run directly by the catacombs, but it got us where we wanted to go and back - so we had a good time. We added on the Trevi Underground which wasn't too impressive.

Tour of the actual catacombs was very interesting however thought the price of the tour was expensive - cost of catacomb admission was only 10 euros. Included half hour video on Rome before the trip started which thought wasn’t necessary.

We arrived to the pick up point in very good time but had to hun a long queue that was very disorganised. We watched a very good video that brought ancient Rome to life but was not linked in any way to the tour. We were then left to stand around outside for a while before we were directed to our transport. We were transported in silence to the tour to find that we were late and the tour had already started. The tour itself was brief and unremarkable really. Tour guide was knowledgeable however and was able to explain well and answer questions. There was a small gift shop and a toilet there but we felt a bit pressured from other travellers to get back to the minibus quickly. It was an okay tour but not as well organised or slick as the other viatour trips we have been on.

Catacombs tour was great everything else as poor

While advertised as an English tour the only English was at the catacombs by the tour guides there. That part was great. The tourism bureau was poor at best. Great movie but on half the group watched because of poor communication. Bus driver spoke no English, gave us our catacomb tickets and grunted at us. We had to figure out where to go to start tour. Bus driver dropped us where he picked us up which was six blocks from tourism office. Most didn’t know how to get back. Take a bus or taxi to catacombs, take their tour and enjoy the area.

The catacombs part of the tour was amazing, a nice trip up on an open sided bus down the appian way to the site. Once their the tour guide father Danesh was wonderful very informative and knowledgeable throughout the two floors of the catacombs currently open to the public. The Navona side of the tour is for you to do on your own and is slightly disappointing so I would just pay for the catacombs tours instead. All in all lovely few hours.

I don't recommend this tour as it is not worth the money. I was expecting to visit at least 2 catacomb site, but unfortunately this tour will just make you visit 1 catacomb site (San Callisto) and the tour guide was from San Callisto itself. This tour will just make you pay for the ride that you will have to San Callisto, that's it! Another thing is that the staff in the touristation wasn't very nice and friendly. They didn't even entertain us in a friendly manner as if I was asking them a favor. Kudos to our driver to the catacombs who was nice and friendly. Don't take this tour. I suggest you book a taxi to San Callisto and pay a tour ticket to San Callisto itself. They have different tour available every hour and in different languages. This will save you money, otherwise just look for a tour that includes visit to 3 catacombs places I think that's a good value of your money.

Must do visit for history buffs!!

Transportation was great and limited to 8 travelers so not crowded. Driver was polished and Mercedes van very comfortable. Ticket also included to Catecombs. A little less than an hour tour with outstanding guide!
