      Hidden gem

      Not much to see at Circus Maximus although our guide gave excellent commentary about what took place there. A short walk brought us to the Baths ruins which were amazing! Never even knew they were there. We received a good explanation of their importance in society at the time and how they brought the classes together. It was very relaxing to be somewhere so beautiful that wasn’t crowded at all. Highly recommend.

      The guide explained us everything about this place. She was very kind and nice. There were two more people but they didn’t go, and the guide Anna followed us in Circus Máximo and Caracalas Bath.

      Having seen the baths in England this was a disappointment. The history about Circus Maximus was interesting. There were only 6 people in the tour so I'm not sure how invested Francesca was. The intermittent downpours of rain made it the most memorable.

      The park was amazing! Not crowded and you could walk around in a city that was from 600BC. The pottery on display in the museum also rivaled what we say elsewhere and all the Greek pots were found at the sight! The tour guide did an excellent job explaining the city and how it moved from a Greek city to a Roman city. The drive to the park along the coast was very beautiful and we were able to stop along the way at a few towns to shop/snack/ tour as we went.

      This is probably one of the most overlooked sites in all of Rome. This was one of the few ruins that has enough left to really give you the scale of what this building must have looked like. And having someone there to point stuff out and explain was super helpful. So much more info available than just what is on the plaques.

      We had Sonia as our tour guide and she was phenomenal. As an archaeologist, she had an abundance of knowledge, and her enthusiasm really showed. We absolutely loved how she was able to paint the picture of how the old structure used to look, and where certain ruin pieces would have been. Her own personal knowledge from working in the field meant that she could speak of the newest findings or what the significance of the different stones in the mosaic are, or the colors. Absolutely recommend!!

      Samuele was our guide and did an excellent job telling us the histories of the Ancient Roman sports arena and chariot races as well as that of the Caracalla baths. It was a super informative 90 minute tour. Highly recommend.

      Practically nothing to see or said about Circus Maximus. Baths explanation was good! I would just visit baths on your own and save money.

      It was not our wonderful guide’s fault that the baths were closed without warning!! Instead of sending us on our way as the company advised him to, he spent an hour explaining the complex with a series of schematic drawings outside.

      We did 10-15 tours while in Rome, Pompeii, Pisa, Florence and this was one of my husbands favorites!! He loved our guide who told the history but in such a fun way with a great sense of humor! Super small tour in English just us and another couple. Highly recommend!
